One hundred and one challenges stand between you and the summit ice. Your pack shouldn’t be one of them. For moving fast in Patagonia, Alaska or the Karakoram, this function-driven pack carries the loads of a multiday ascent without interfering with efficient movement. It features an integrated, asymmetrical spindrift collar that opens wide and closes in a single motion for fast packing. The high-density foam back panel gives the pack structure and helps to support heavy loads, but can be removed for lightweight pursuits. Ergonomic shoulder straps (with load lifters) match your torso’s contours for 24-hour comfort, and the padded hip belt is removable when you prefer a simple webbing belt. Four rows of exterior daisy chains provide lashing options for a rope, helmet, pad or ice tools. Other details include compression straps to carry skis and cinch down loads, an asymmetric profile for elbow clearance and a zippered pocket on the lid for quick access to small essentials. Made from lightweight yet durable 5.5-oz 210-denier Cordura® 86% nylon/14% polyester with a polyurethane coating.

Ascensionist - 40L is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great pack, strange strap system So I've owned 3 of these packs now, (1 every year now in the Rockies for the pst 3 years) this year I was super stoked with the new refinements made on the Ascentist. The ice axe holders are fantastic, the padding on the bad is burly yet light. Just the overall feel of the bag is great in the back country on missions or at the crag approach climbing. but why, with the middle MAIN strap that holds the whole bag together, is it so loose? The strap is only held into the bag by a small hole that the strap feeds through and is held by a small metal flange that is only a 1/4 inch wider then the hole. I've already had the bag open up twice by itself hiking, and to be honest if I lose the strap Itself because this awkward design, I most definitely will be returning the bag for a refund. I have been thinking of sewing it shut because I do really enjoy this bag. My girlfriend has the 30L and she thinks my strap was manufactured larger, and could be a defect. Anyway 3 stars from me! 4 stars if it didn't have the strap issue. Thanks Patagonia for being awesome
