Our Atom Sling grips your back with the same tenacity as a climber latching onto a granite edge. It carries the fundamentals with all the comfort of a backpack, the convenience of a shoulder bag and the ergonomic, low-profile performance of a courier’s tote. The Atom’s teardrop shape keeps the pack right behind your shoulders where it stays out of the way when you’re moving through crowded streets and subway terminals. When you need to grab something from your pack, the single-strap design lets you simply rotate the Atom to the front for quick access. The large, zippered main pocket has mesh and stretch-woven pockets inside (with hook-and-loop closure) to organize small items. A convenient zippered pocket on the shoulder strap has a soft lining to protect your valuable electronics, and adjustable buckles provide lash points for any extras on the outside. Breathable 3-D spacer mesh pads the shoulder strap and back panel to wick moisture, dry quickly and increase ventilation. For biking and hiking, an integrated waist belt keeps the pack close to your torso. Made from 450-denier 100% recycled polyester, with a 450-denier 100% recycled polyester base. The lining is 200-denier 100% polyester. All fabrics have a DWR (durable water repellent) finish.

Water Resistant

(durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great versitility I love the sling because it has the two interior pockets, the outter pocket and the strap pocket. It allows for maximum organization and functionality. I would definitely reccomend this bag. My only complaint is that the outter pocket isnt large enough for a smart phone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Daughter Loves it! Purchased for my 18yr old daughter before our 2 week Disney vacation. It was a hit. She was able to carry the items she wanted keeping her hands free. And best of all, it stayed in place. Didn't fall of shoulder or get bumped in the busy park.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good size for urban walks. Good for a water bottle and rain jacket. Wish it were adjustable to sling over either shoulder but that's a minor quibble. Looks good with a 100 mile North Country Trail patch too.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice small bag - redesign the front strap pocket! The YouTube video by Patagonia for item this claims you can fit a smart phone in the strap pocket. The only smart phone fitting in that pocket is a narrow flip phone. My old Motorola Droid won't even fit in that pocket. I ordered this but may return to REI due to this design flaw. No way in heck my Pixel XL with a case on will fit in that pocket. Someone in design is out of touch if they think that's a smart phone pocket.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love bag, needs some tweaks. My daughter has this bag and used it on two recent recent trips. It is the perfect size! I decided to get myself one and love it, minus a few things. First, the front pouch that is supposed to hold my cell phone, definitely does not. I have an iphone 6 (not plus size), not even close to fitting. It basically fits the size of 3/4 of a dollar bill. Hold your phone up to a dollar bill and you will see the problem. (photo attached). Second, there are two other zippered compartments, I chose the smaller one for my iphone. Both these compartments are on your back when carrying the back, definitely not convenient. I have to reach around and make a judgement as to which zipper to pull, both are identical. I'm calling Patagonia today to see if I can purchase a zipper pull in another color. 50% of the time, I pull the wrong zipper. Third, there are very long waist straps, who needs a waist strap for a sling? Why not use that money towards making the cell phone case bigger or an outside mesh pocket for a water bottle. So, I'm cutting off the waist straps. Other than those 3 issues I'm happy with my bag and am using it as my daily to and fro bag.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from on crutches and hands free ! This bag is a game changer For someone on crutches. All my other bags got in my way, including a small patagonia messenger bag. I needed something that would stay put, so my options were a sling bag or a fanny pack. Its smaller than my purse so I was surprised I could transfer all my purse stuff into it: wallet, keys, makeup, bars, glasses, phone, 16 oz water, ID card. As others have said the size of the phone pocket is its tragic flaw. I hate digging around in my bag for my phone and this pocket is a few cm too small. It's useful for other things though. However, it's many benefits outweigh that. I'll totally use it for travel and activities later, and as a casual purse.
