With the workweek in mind, our designers created the Headway Brief. It combines the rock-tough durability of our climbing packs with an on-the-go urban aesthetic to meet the demands of our action-sequence lives. Amply sized to carry your day-to-day belongings along with the essentials for an extended weekend, the Headway features a raised-off-the-bottom electronics pocket with separate padded sleeves to hold most 15" laptops and your e-reader. The main compartment, accessed via a clamshell-opening zipper, holds bulky items like lunch, a sweater and that novel you’re writing in longhand; mesh pockets provide additional storage. A smaller front compartment keeps you organized with a key clip, mesh stash pockets for your phone and earbuds, and a zip-closing pocket to keep your flash drive handy. Other details include an outside stash pocket for magazines and a boarding pass, briefcase-style carrying handles and an adjustable, removable shoulder strap. Made from 9.25-oz 940-denier CORDURA® Ballistic nylon with a polyurethane coating and lined with 8.4-oz 600-denier 100% recycled polyester. Both fabrics have a DWR (durable water repellent) finish.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Water Resistant

DWR (durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Headway Brief 22L is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 33.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Bag...unless you love pens! I wanted an updated briefcase, preferably with more space. I thought at 22L that it would be small, but that is not the case at all! I have plenty of room for all of my office supplies, in addition to tablets and a book. Bonus - I can fit a change of clothes in the bag! My one piece of feedback that leads to a reduction in rating is the pen loops. I don't use standard office issue ballpoint pens. So the loops don't fit my pens. In addition, the location of the loops makes them almost impossible to get in there, even if the loops were big enough. So I'm hoping the feedback is taken, because otherwise, the bag is perfect. Just would be good to have someone check that all of those wonderful stashing areas are accessible!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid! Best laptop bag I've had. I'm a journalist and I travel a lot with my laptop. I was a Manhattan Portage hardcore fan for a long time (design and durability) but this brief has so much more features and the best part is that it last longer! The durability is so so excellent. And I love the kaki color too much! This is a must-have guys.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Much smaller and Less Practical Than Expected I've been using Timbuk 2's Command Messenger bag for several years for work, but I needed something that was bigger. A bigger bag that can hold my 13'' laptop, its accessories, office stuff, my lunch, and whatever else. These messenger bags are great for smaller items, but once you start packing it, the main compartment space gets compromised. After watching several product videos, and reading the reviews on the Headway Brief, I took a chance on it. Sadly, the bag did not meet my expectations. I thought it'd be much bigger than my Timbuk 2 bag, but it was slightly smaller. Once I packed the brief with my laptop, accessories, and office accessories, the main compartment was totally compromised. I could barely fit a small tupperwear of my lunch. The bag is definitely made of quality materials and I think like most Patagonia products, it will be durable. But, I'm sad to report that my experience wasn't great. And like most reviewers have said, the front pocket is difficult to access. And honestly, if you start packing the front pocket with stuff, you are eating into the main compartment space. I have returned this and going to try the Paxat backpack. Hoping that is the solution to my needs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable I've had this bag for a year and I commute into DC daily on the MARC train / DC metro. The bag can take a pounding, no fraying and keeps the water out unless you get caught in a downpour. Strap and zippers are sturdy and the design is intuitive. Dropped it several times and never damaged my laptop. Great gear for the urban warrior!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does just what I want it to do !! I purchased about a month ago to provide more space for MacBook Pro, cell phone, notebooks, rain jacket, small great with its separate compartments and specialty slots for small items. I use a lot of Patty clothing and gear and some over 35 years old and still going strong. This little gem will go to my daughter when I'm gone. Great products always !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Perfect Office Companion I've had the bag for a month now and I absolutely love it. I use it for work and it travels back and forth with me daily. It's lightweight and durable, but has plenty of snug padding to protect my 15" Macbook (which fits perfectly). Plenty of smartly designed and positioned pockets, straps, and storage to keep cables, medication, etc. I noticed other reviews complained about the strap slipping off their shoulder and the bag not standing upright, neither have been an issue for me. It's perfect on the shoulder and sits upright all day. As a 35 year old man, it was time that I stopped carrying a backpack to work. This has been a perfect solution for me and has allowed me to organize my work gear in a way I wasn't fully executing previously. I'm happy!
