It might be summer everywhere else, but on Mount Hunter’s Kennedy-Lowe Route, it always feels like the middle of winter. Designed to manage the extremes of high-output exertion, our Capilene® Midweight fabric hits the sweet spot of weight, breathability and wicking that is the essence of versatility worn alone or with additional layers. It keeps you dry and comfortable when worn during high-exertion activities in cool-to-moderate temperatures and insulates beneath a shell in cold weather. Constructed with a Polartec® Power Grid™ fabric, it has a smooth face for easy layering and a brushed-back grid that aids in wicking as well as warmth. The fabric has 33–66% recycled-polyester content and is treated with Polygiene® permanent odor control. Features include a brushed elastic waistband for next-to-skin softness, a gusseted crotch for mobility, a functional fly and flatlock seams to minimize chafing.

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from grat fit. Right warmth Bought these two months ago because my older, other brand midweights were wearing out. These are just right for most of the ski days in New York. Go to expedition weight for the realy cold, below zero days. They fit well, and are comfortable under my ski pants.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable! My Mom bought these for me in a XXX size, because they were on discount, and then took in the waist band! I love them, they are comfortable, and really help keep me warm all day (I work at a ski resort as a "Liftie"). Love them, even at full price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for layering I bought these for my husband, who works outdoors as a replacement for an older set that he had worn through. He says they're great for layering, because they are thin yet warm, so don't add a lot of bulk to your layers.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I want to love these...but they fall apart Hi guys, first off I just want to say that I love all my Patagonia gear and try to purchase all my outdoor and casual clothes from this company because of the mission, vision, and values the Patagonia brand provides and upholds. That being said, I am in the process of returning my second pair of these midweight capilene bottoms (from the Winter '15 / Spring '16 line). I love the color (forest green) and fit, but even hand-washing these bottoms couldn't keep them from falling apart. I so wanted these to last, but after a few months they start to fall apart. Maybe the newest iteration (Winter '16) have improved on the quality, but unfortunately I am not really interested in risking another pair again. Ill end on a big positive note though: Patagonia's customer service is amazing. Every employee that works for Patagonia that I have had the pleasure of speaking with is always so freaking helpful and upbeat. So even though these bottoms don't get my stamp of approval, I still stand proud to rock my patagonia branded items.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Men's Capilene 3 / Midweight Bottoms Rock! I wore these bottoms on a recent 6-day backpacking trip in Colorado's Weminuche and Rawah Wilderness. 4-6 inches of snow on the first night. Nightie temps never strayed above 30 degrees. These bottoms were awesome. Warm, comfortable and lightweight. I'm 5'-11" and 175 lbs and the size medium fit just right. After reading other reviews about poor QC, I just went over every seam on the bottoms and sewing is PERFECT. I've been backpacking for 30 years and couldn't recommend these bottoms more. What more can I say?
