Efficiency in the alpine means high sticks, simulclimbing and speedy belay transitions. And, of course, exceptional insulation. Our Fitz Roy Down Jacket uses 800-fill-power Traceable Down (800-fill-power goose down from geese traced from parent farm to apparel factory to help ensure the birds that supply it are not force-fed or live-plucked, as certified by NSF, an independent third party) in a high-loft quilting design—larger, loftier chambers trap your heat inside the 100% nylon shell with snow-shedding DWR (durable water repellent) finish, which utilizes a special high-sheen fabric construction atop the shoulders for enhanced moisture resistance. Underarm gussets improve range of motion and the center-front zipper has an internal storm flap and a soft, kissing-welt zipper garage with a micro-fleece-lined chin-flap for next-to-skin comfort. A drawcorded hem seals-in warmth and cinches from inside the two zippered handwarmer pockets (another zippered pocket sits on the outer left chest). Soft, low-profile, internal elastic-bound cuffs pushup easily, and the included stuffsack has a built-in clip-in loop.
  • Lightweight and durable 100% nylon Pertex Quantum® fabrics throughout; high-sheen Pertex Quantum built with Y-shaped filament technology on the shoulders has interlocking Y-shaped nylon fibers to enhance DWR (durable water repellent) performance
  • 800-fill-power Traceable Down (800-fill-power goose down from geese traced from parent farm to apparel factory to help ensure the birds that supply it are not force-fed or live-plucked, as certified by NSF, an independent third party); high-loft quilted construction provides exceptional warmth
  • Center-front Vislon® zipper backed with internal storm flap and soft kissing-welt zipper garage and chin flap with microfleece for next-to-skin comfort

Water Resistant

DWR
(durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Traceable Down Insulation

Patagonia Traceable Down provides the highest assurance of animal welfare in the apparel industry. Every down cluster, in every one of our down products, comes exclusively from birds that were never force-fed and never live-plucked. How do we know? We hired an independent third-party expert to trace and verify our down supply chain from farm to jacket–and every step in between. Learn more

Men's Fitz Roy Down Jacket is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Overpriced, Average Warmth, Misleading Color I see that in a very short period (about a month or two) of time that the price of this jacket has come down a lot (about $100.00). So I overpaid by quite a bit of money and therefore very disappointed with Patagonia. Given this I will never buy one of their products again as a result of that factor alone. The jacket itself is okay but only good to about 20 degrees. Less than that you'll need to layer to keep warm with this jacket. The color of my jacket is Carbon. The photos make it look more like a grayish blue but in reality its a dark green. Not a flattering color on me so I'm also disappointed with the color.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent multi purpose Really nice styling, trim and shape. Looks good around town if you like that kind of thing (I do). Took it into the White Mountains winter camping last week. Very warm, very light, compresses about the size of a softball. Ideal high warmth layer under a shell or alone. Only complaint is -- I bought it in early January. I see they've put it on sale for $100 less since then.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from such warmth in a light weight package I have to admit I got this jacket as a gift, I have never really like puffy jackets and the color I received I don't really care for (green with yellow zippers, I don't like yellow), but I can't believe how nice this jacket is. It feels like you are wearing a very light shirts, almost not there, but it's very warm and breathable. Even though I don't like the color I keep using it because it's so comfortable. I cuffs are smart with elastic thread to keep it tight yet out of the way. Very easy to pack as it will compress down very small unlike my other jackets with the same warmth. Will be nice for hiking trips or bike packing where space is limited. I only wish there was a small pocket on the inside of the jacket to store the provided stuff sack so I did have to store it separate and possibly loose it. Overall a seller jacket that I am very happy to own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great, Warm, Lightweight Jacket As the old expression goes, there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing. Winters in northern Vermont can be extremely cold, but you wouldn’t know it with this jacket, it's built for extreme cold. The Patagonia marketing folks say this jacket is perfect for “belaying.” I had to look up belaying and as far as I can tell it has something to do with ropes and rock climbing. Needless to say, I don’t belay, and god willing I will never go over a cliff hanging by a flimsy piece of rope, with or without this jacket. What attracted me to this coat is that it's light weight. I have one of those overpriced (even by Patagonia standards) jumbo goose down coats. It’s a nice warm coat, but it’s so bulky that you can't wear it and drive a car, and if you take the coat off, it takes up the whole back seat. The Fitz Roy down jacket is light weight, very warm, and you can actually drive a car while wearing the jacket.
