UPF Fabric

Lacking fur, feathers or scales, we humans have to think up clever ways to protect ourselves from the sun. Products with the UPF designation provide built-in sun protection that won’t wear off.

To achieve sun protection, Patagonia takes a varied approach, depending on the degree of protection desired and the fabric used. Elements of the strategy can range from yarn selection to fabric construction to the use of special finishes (especially for light colors which generally provide less protection).

Water Resistant

DWR
(durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Love the fitted fit. Super light. Functional. Really solid.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I agree, regular fit is too tight I agree with Spanks who said they are not the same fit as they used to be. I bought a pair and they fit nothing like my old relaxed fit pair that I still have. The regular fit are not nearly as comfortable or loose as the relaxed fit. I had a hard time putting my hands in the front pocket without it pulling across the front. This makes it a bit inconvenient when I am pulling a map out of my front pocket which I do frequently when I hike. The relaxed fit was just as it says, relaxed. You hardly know you have them on. I have a 34-35 inch waist, so nothing gigantic, but still they pulled. When I find something I like and it fits I generally buy more than one because you can count on manufacturers changing styles, and not always for the better (at least not better for me, which is all that counts!!!). Anyway, consistent with this, I have 8 pair of GiII long pants (the old style, the new style is also too tight), and so I intend to take one and cut them into shorts. Then I'll have the relaxed fit. (:->) Patagonia, bring back the old style!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome I've never owned anything from Patagonia. My Mountain Hardware jacket will be retired this winter and upgraded to Patagonia! Anyways, on to the shorts!! All I can say is INCREDIBLE!!! I wanted shorts that were quick drying, durable and I could wear them anytime! I wear them everyday!! Even wear them to church on Sunday. I am going to have to buy a couple more pairs. Thanks Patagonia for making a product I can depend on everyday!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from My favorite "go to" short has gone awry! The Gi has been my favorite most comfortable short ever. I just received 4 new pair to supplement my well worn, over 13 yr old, pairs that unfortunately with have to be returned. Upon trying them on I was totally bummed to find THE CURRENT Gi III DESIGN IS OVER 5 INCHES SMALLER IN EACH LEG OPENING (SIZE XL) THAN THE PREVIOUS Gi II DESIGN. A TOTALLY DIFFERENT FIT and RESTRICTIVE TO MOVEMENT. After an extensive conversation with customer service I discovered that my older models were the “relaxed” fit. Turns out the designers made the unfortunate decision to transition from “relaxed” to “regular” fit with the current Gi III style #57320. PLEASE BRING BACK THE RELAXED FIT preferably with the fully elastic waist, example style #57312. Until then If you're like me and are being forced to search for used pairs on ebay the following list will hopefully be helpful. for reference previous Gi style #'s are as follows… Gi II #57312 Relaxed, Gi II #57314 Relaxed, Gi II #57316 Relaxed, Gi III #57318 Relaxed, Gi III #57319 Relaxed

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great for anything Needed a new pair of daily runners. These shorts do that and so much more. Biking, hiking, walking the dog, quick dips in the river, lounging near the garden- literally anything. They are tough, stand up to activity and feel good doing it all the time. These will also be the summer 'everything' shorts so I know I will be able to count on them after these first several weeks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 18 days on the Colorado through Grand Canyon Gi Shorts have been my favorite shorts for over a decade. They fit perfectly, have ample pockets including a zippered pocket, dry fast and look great. Wore them while rowing the Colorado through Grand Canyon this spring.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Shorter than they used to be I've worn Gi shorts ever since they came out-15 or so years ago? Really like the Gi III slimmer fit over the older Gi II. Unfortunately the new version Gi III is at least 1 1/2"shorter than the previous version. Watch out if you liked the old version. Other features look to be the same as before but the shorter length rules them out for me. Please Patagonia, go back to the longer version.
