Into Banda Aceh with a few sturdy boards, the newly redesigned Light & Variable™ Hoody takes you far beyond the tourist trail. This pared-down hooded jacket is wind- and weather-resistant for light showers and brisk boat rides back from the reef. Made of lightweight 2.7-oz 100% recycled polyester with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish, it provides 50+ UPF sun protection and stuffs into a small pouch to double as a travel pillow. Now trimmer through the body, it features a center zipper with a rope pull and flat-felled seam detailing. The hood has cinch ties for an adjustable fit. Self-lined, zippered handwarmer pockets have flat-felled side seams and rope-pull closures. The left pocket serves as a self-stuff pouch with carabiner clip-in loop. Details include a drawcord hem, elasticized cuffs and reinforced vents under the arms for better breathability in warmer weather. Hip length.

UPF Fabric

Lacking fur, feathers or scales, we humans have to think up clever ways to protect ourselves from the sun. Products with the UPF designation provide built-in sun protection that won’t wear off.

To achieve sun protection, Patagonia takes a varied approach, depending on the degree of protection desired and the fabric used. Elements of the strategy can range from yarn selection to fabric construction to the use of special finishes (especially for light colors which generally provide less protection).

Water Resistant

DWR (durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from not great Bought it thinking it would resist some rain, doesn't at all. Stains easily, doesn't resist wind, not warm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Lightweight Jacket I've had this jacket for just over a year and it is still my favorite jacket for fall and spring time. It was my second skin while I was in San Francisco and Bodega Bay last summer. It is great for light rain, 50-75 degrees, and is very cool looking. I'd definitely recommend this product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, but don't count on it in rain I really like the jacket, but it's not without faults. First the GOOD: - Versatile. It's fits in while walking in the city or hiking on the trail. - Folds up nicely and is light weight. - Does a good job of blocking out wind. - Dries very quickly once out of the rain. Now, the NOT GOOD: - The jacket will not handle more than a drizzle. It will shed the first few drops, but after a minute, the drops soak in instantly. This is within the first month, so I don't think the DWR has worn off. I'm not talking about a monsoon or even light steady rain, but I would not count on it to keep you dry if it's more than a very short drizzle. Luckily it does seem to dry very fast once out of the wet. - The zipper jams into the flaps occasionally. This happens with both the main zipper and pockets. Not often, but frustrating when it does. - The hood is useless unless you tie it. It will not stay cinched if you just pull on the cords. This jacket would benefit from those plastic spring loaded cinchers. Overall, I'd still recommend the jacket as long as you're aware of the issues. I'm 5'11, slim and ordered the medium which fit pretty well. Style wise, it's just ever slightly looser than I prefer along the sides but this also allows it enough room for active activities and layering. It works well for a number of uses.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Unsure Not sure about this hoody. Looks great and wears beautifully, but the zipper broke the first time I tried to use it. I returned it for a refund. Maybe it was just a one-off. I am not sure.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Buyer Beware... I love Patagonia, so this is review is difficult for me to leave...but do NOT buy this piece in the Navy/Red! I bought it because it was light, fit super well, and looked great. But the first time I wore it, the red rubbed off all over the back of my shirt (and the stains haven't come out after dry cleaning). Maybe the other colors are fine, but DO NOT buy the red (unless you don't have shirts you care about getting red on them). Really disappointed in Patagonia for this one. Maybe warn the customer if there's the chance for color transfer?
