Waning daylight and suspect weather have you climbing fast, but you’re still two long pitches from topping out. Fortunately, inside this warm, intrinsically soft crew, every situation feels like it must have a silver lining. We make all our Merino Air® baselayers from a blend of merino wool from the grasslands of Patagonia (51%) and recycled polyester (49%). We spin the wool fibers with an innovative technology that creates a loftier yarn with a superior warmth-to-weight ratio. The lofted wool and recycled polyester yarns are then knit directly into a seamless garment with minimal waste. The result is a baselayer with superior performance qualities; it offers a stretchy, chafe-free fit, lightweight warmth, exceptional breathability and the natural odor-fighting properties of wool.
  • Fine merino wool from the grasslands of Patagonia blended with Capilene® recycled polyester for improved wicking, durability and dry time
  • 18.9 micron-gauge yarn; lofted wool innovation
  • Fabric is soft against skin and stretches to move with the body
  • Seamless 3D construction eliminates chafe points through the entire garment and has almost no wasted material
  • 5.6-oz (190-g) 51% chlorine-free merino wool/49% recycled polyester seamless zigzag knit
  • 195 g (6.9 oz)
  • Made in Hong Kong.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from love the style This item is a little hot for now, so I'll save it for next winter

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Phenomenal This really is the best baselayer I've ever owned. It's incredibly warm, but also very comfortable and breathes really well. As others have said, it's very 'airy' in feel. I think because of that, it feels more fragile than it really is; so far it's holding up real well. Nice looking too. I'm 5'11", 175lbs with broad shoulders & relatively long arms & the Large fits well. I think a Medium would also fit fine, though a bit more snug. Super happy with this purchase. Anything cool to cold temp & this will do a great job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent. Feels great on. Warm when you need it and has an airy feel that breaths when you're on the go. I wear it as a shirt when its cool out. I purchased an XL and I'm 6ft 190 with a long body. It's a little loose but I like it that way. Large for a more snug fit. (I think a tighter fit is better when you are doing high energy sports)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best base layer ever Hands down the best baselayer I've ever had. Stretchy, warm, and breathable I literally wore this thing for 2 weeks straight from bed to mountain, class and then work. I'm 6'1, 175 lbs, with broad shoulders and the L fits me perfect in the chest, and a little loosely in the arms, however it does let me wear it as a base layer and standalone shirt. In terms of warmth, this layer cooks, and I'm comfortable in just this, a cap t-shirt, and my nano air until it drops below -15 or so. That being said, its so breathable that you can also wear it comfortably until it hits the mid 30s. My only complaint is that its so breathable that it can be a little chilly as a stand alone piece on windier days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent layer I had been looking at this item for a while and finally ordered it. Simply love it! Sorry I waited so long to purchase. Warm, comfortable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Soft a and warm This is this best close to the body layer I've ever owned. Soft, warm and extremely comfortable. The weave is really nice and I wear it around town as sweater. I plan to get another in the orange color.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best sweater ever I bought this sweater about a month ago and have worn it a few times. I don't wear sweaters often, but this one I love. It looks great, feels great, and does not overheat me like other sweaters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Now the best baselayer I own. This is my warmest, lightest layer. I'm tall and lanky and a size Medium fits me superbly. And the biggest bonus, it doesn't smell! Usually I need to bring multiple underlayers on a trip, but I've just spent 4 straight days skiing hard in this and it doesn't smell in the slightest.
