The best warmth for weight jacket we’ve ever built, the Micro Puff™ Hoody delivers ultralightweight, water-resistant, down-like warmth with PlumaFill synthetic insulation—a revolutionary featherlight down alternative.

Read More Close
It’s lofty for sure, but the Micro Puff™ Hoody delivers the best warmth-to-weight ratio of any jacket we’ve ever created. The unprecedented combination of warmth, minimal weight, and compressibility—even when wet—offers the versatility of synthetic without compromising the benefits of down. The revolutionary PlumaFill insulation (65-g 100% polyester) is featherlight and compressible, offering down-level warmth that still traps your heat when it’s wet. A nylon ripstop Pertex Quantum® shell, with a DWR (durable waterproof repellent) finish, blocks wind and snow. The garment’s design maximizes performance and minimizes useless fluff. Features: zippered handwarmer pockets (the left pocket doubles as a stuffsack with a reinforced carabiner clip-in loop), a pair of sleek internal drop-in pockets (made without excess, using the backside of the handwarmer pocket bags), a light and simple under-the-helmet hood, and elasticized cuffs and hem.
Features
  • Ultralight nylon ripstop Pertex Quantum® shell is water-resistant, windproof and treated with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish
  • Revolutionary PlumaFill insulation replicates the structure of down in a continuous synthetic insulation material, offering the warmth and packability of down but with the warm-when-wet performance of synthetic insulation
  • Innovative quilting construction complements the insulation by stabilizing and maximizing the loft of the PlumaFill strands with minimal stitching
  • Center-front zipper has wicking interior storm flap and zipper garage at chin for next-to-skin comfort
  • Two welted zippered handwarmer pockets; left pocket doubles as a stuffsack with a reinforced carabiner clip-in loop
  • Under-the-helmet hood construction is light and simple
  • Elasticized cuffs and hem seal in warmth

Water Resistant

DWR (durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Almost perfect I Just got this jacket a couple weeks ago and have tested it in high 30- low 40-degree weather thus far. I am comfortable with just a t-shirt on under the jacket at these temperatures but any colder and additional layering might be required, my initial impression is that this jacket is not quite as warm as my ultralight down jkt but likely comparable to the nano puff. The fit is a major improvement over the rest of the nano puff & down jackets. I'm 5'11" 200lbs and broad shouldered, the seamless construction of the shoulders on the new micro puff allow me to size down to a LARGE, and the range of motion in the shoulders is perfect. I've always had to size up to an XL in the UL down and nano puff jkts to allow for more comfort and range of motion in the shoulders and arms. As far as style is concerned, I believe this is the best-looking insulation piece Patagonia has made in a long time, the pattern the stiching creates is pretty rad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Puffy LOVE After traveling with my super packable Micro Puff and wearing it on a few early season XC skis, I sold my previously favored Nano Puffs and bought a second color. I like the synthetic fills as no animals need to be sacrificed for my warmth and they work great in our damp Oregon climate. I am 5'7", 140 pounds and wear a small.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Micro Puff not micro in size Just like others have mentioned, quality, look, and warmth is top notch. However, I had to return it based on its baggy size. I have mediums in all other Patagonia products including the "regular size" nano puff. This fits like one size larger around the torso and arms. Arm length and jacket length are spot on, otherwise, I would say size one down. I am hoping they dial down the size for future runs and it would be perfect. I am 6ft and 170 pounds for reference.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from So close - but no go this model. Patagonia may be on the verge of cracking the down feather code with this fantastic innovation and I hope they do but the size medium, my best fit, had an uncomfortable tight spot on the back of the neck when the hood was all zipped up - and I definitely have an average size neck. Will need to get the ergonomics right for a purchase of this magnitude.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far SO GOOD! Relatively new piece, but loving the lightweight and warmth. Comfortable down to 44 F with light shirt so far. And not to warm on cool but not cold mornings. By the way, ordered a LARGE and I am 6'0" 180 lbs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! This has to be the finest jacket I have ever owned. It wears like a windbreaker, but the warmth is astounding! So light! I also love that it all rolls up into the left pocket. Great job, Patagonia!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Specialty jacket This jacket serves a very niche purpose: to be an ultralight, synthetic jacket that still keeps you warm. This is not a down jacket, and the differences you're going to get from a synthetic and down should be obvious. No real need to knock it for not living up to your ideas of how a down jacket should perform. Neither is this a hard shell jacket. It is not going to fare well against constant abrasion. Instead it should be compared to its synthetic insulating predecessors. This jacket blows the nano puff out of the water. What you get is something in between the nano puff and the down sweater, but lighter and more comfortable than both. The fit is great for active motion if you need to move around. This jacket has mainly served me to layer over an R1 once I got to camp, as well as for chilly mornings throughout the week. It does an amazing job of keeping in warmth, while weighing almost nothing while it's in your pack. It seems that is what it was designed to do, and it knocks it out of the park in that regard. Contrary to another review, this piece is precisely for hardcore outdoor use. If you're looking for a jacket to wear out to town or around campus, save your money and get the nano puff as that will serve you just fine. If you know how to layer properly, and know what the jacket is designed for, it serves as a technical piece of ultralight gear that won't be left out of my pack if I'm expecting the slightest chill in the air.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Jacket I have owned I actually traded in a few Patagonia "puffies" to the Wear Worn program to go out and get this one. Best decision ever. Fit is great. Color is sweet (I got the orange). I was a little nervous at how light it was until I took it to the mountains. I had a t-shirt and this and was toasty warm. Others around had large coats, layers, etc and were cold. When it warmed up the next day I didn't get hot. I really don't want to take it off. Just get this coat.
