A beautiful line, your climbing partner, rope and a rack: The finest mountain days merge elegance and efficiency. Our R1® Pullover maintains a similar focus, with a high/low interior grid polyester fabric (Polartec® Power Grid™) that stretches, breathes, moves moisture and insulates—recently redesigned exclusively for Patagonia to be even lighter and more breathable. Its technical fit accommodates light underlayers or works as a stand-alone top, and it squashes down to practically nothing in your pack. Simple cuffs stay comfortable against the wrists; minimalist zippers reduce bulk; and a soft, kissing-welt zipper garage at the chin offers next-to-skin comfort. With a smooth, microfiber face for easy layering, offset shoulder seams for pack-wearing comfort, a zippered chest pocket and Polygiene® permanent odor control.
  • Exclusive to Patagonia, this Polartec® Power Grid™ fabric (with Polygiene® permanent odor control) is lighter and more breathable than before, but with the same outstanding stretch and durability
  • Raglan sleeves for increased mobility and off-shoulder seaming for comfort under a pack
  • Pullover silhouette has deep center-front zipper with a soft kissing-welt zipper garage at chin for next-to-skin comfort
  • One left-chest pocket has slim zip install, zipper garage and mesh pocket bag
  • Cuffs and hem are simply and comfortably finished with a coverstitch
  • 6.3-oz Polartec® Power Grid™ 93% recycled polyester/7% spandex with Polygiene® permanent odor control. Fabric is bluesign® approved

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Men's R1 P/O is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very functional Great jacket if you are looking for an active fleece jacket. I love the slim fit of it, great for all around motion, which really benefits when i'm climbing. I have even used it underneath my dry suit while whitewater kayaking and it worked great for that. This is my second one I have owned, the only thing I like better about my old one is they use to use R .5 around the cuffs which made it great to put gloves on over it. I can live without that feature though, I love the jacket highly recommend!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Amazing but ... I own 4 of these however the latest versions front pocket is way too big. No one who actually 'uses' this garment needs to carry an iPad. I live North of 60 and will not be packing this jacket. Even splitting and carrying wood with an iPhone is uncomfortable. Otherwise it's amazing. Warm and usually all I need with a good base layer into the -20C's

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great for early fall morning on the boat I bought this to wear while i guide fly fisherman along the mid atlantic coast. I wear it under my Torrentshell or my RiverSalt Jacket

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Fit The R1 pullover is a perfect fit for our Coastal climate and the need for layers to stay comfortable in the morning or evening when being active. Not to mention it looks great!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Functional, but bunches now I loved the old version of this, wore it literally every day. But I lost it. That was a sad day. I've had the new version for a few months now, and while it's still functional, the new fabric really bunches in the sleeves, along the lines between the squares. Looks sort of accordion-like. I'm not sure if i washed it/dried it wrong, or if it's just the nature of the new fabric. Never happened with the old version. Still great for hiking/fishing/skiing, super warm, close cut and paired with capilene or merino baselayer, all you need for a cold (west coast) day of skiing. But not the fashion statement it used to be.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed. I Purchased the Patagonia Men's R1® Fleece Pullover less than 6 months ago because my friends have had them for years and love theirs. but the one I received has began to pill very badly and doesn't seem to be of the same quality of the ones my friends bought before i did. I am very unhappy with the build quality of this product and for the price of Patagonia I expect a high quality product that will last and that doesn't seem to be the case with the R1 pullover.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the Best Fleece Pullovers Ever I've been wearing R1 pullovers since Patagonia first introduced them and they are still great. Love the slim fit. The smooth face works seamlessly with over-layers. Perfect for any activity: skiing, hiking, biking, fishing, and everyday wear too. This pullover is light, breathable and the grid fabric insulates really well. And even better, like the name says, it 'regulates' its temperature -- never too hot like some fleece. The R1 pullover is one of the best, most useful, most comfortable pieces of apparel gear I own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If warmth is what you're looking for.... Easily one of Patagonia's flag ship garments. Used exclusively when skiing colder days (-20F); the R1 gets it done especially with a thin capilene base layer. The collar hook is appreciated, shoulder material will 'nap' a bit when bibs or suspenders are used. I am 6'1" 180, long arms; being a slim fit garment, the XL was the best fit.
