A beautiful line, your climbing partner, rope and a rack: the finest mountain days merge elegance and efficiency. Our R1® Pullover maintains a similar focus, with a high/low interior grid polyester fabric (Polartec® Power Grid™) that stretches, breathes, moves moisture and insulates—recently redesigned exclusively for Patagonia to be even lighter and more breathable. Its technical fit accommodates light underlayers or works as a stand-alone top, and it squashes down to practically nothing in your pack. Simple cuffs stay comfortable against the wrists; minimalist zippers reduce bulk; and a soft, kissing-welt zipper garage at the chin offers next-to-skin comfort. With a smooth, microfiber face for easy layering, offset shoulder seams for pack-wearing comfort, a zippered chest pocket and Polygiene® permanent odor control.
  • Exclusive to Patagonia, this Polartec® Power Grid™ fabric with Polygiene® permanent odor control is light and breathable with outstanding stretch and durability
  • Raglan sleeves for increased mobility and off-shoulder seaming for comfort under a pack
  • Pullover silhouette has deep center-front zipper with a soft kissing-welt zipper garage at chin for next-to-skin comfort
  • One left-chest pocket has slim zip install, zipper garage and mesh pocket bag
  • Cuffs and hem are simply and comfortably finished with a coverstitch
  • 6.3-oz Polartec® Power Grid™ 93% recycled polyester/7% spandex with Polygiene® permanent odor control. Fabric is bluesign® approved

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Men's R1® Pullover is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 54.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great zipper for venting I teach skiing and this is a great versatile layer. It provides warmth when it is cold plus provides great venting when the temps rise. A great piece of equipment!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light weight and warm Nice layer both as an external layer or underneath, warm and it looks great.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Sizing! Not really slim fit anymore. Completely agree with KayakAngler on sizing! I'm 5'11, 150 lbs. and all my older R1s are all mediums. They fit perfect. Slim athletic fit. The older ones are by far my favorite piece of clothing; I wear or carry one almost every day. When shopping for a new one, I tried on both the M and S in the store and finally decided to go down a size to S. It fits fine in the abdomen but the shoulders are very snug. The M seems to have extra room around the waist; at first I thought I must have lost weight but after seeing all the other reviews it seems Patagonia has resized them to be a bit baggier for some unknown reason.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sizing. Sizing. Sizing. I'm 6, 160 lbs. My R1 hoody, pullover, etc from years back (I don't upgrade to new ones every year) are all mediums. They fit perfect. A real slim, athletic fit. Tried on a medium this morning and it fit ok around the shoulders and chest, fat guy fit around the stomach area. Stop sizing these for the "I have to buy this to look cool during my yearly ski trip" people. This is a technical piece, not a look cool while I go get coffee piece. Please, please, please, all of the core Patagonia customers beg you to bring back a real slim, athletic fit.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Layering Piece or Stand Alone I like the R1 Pullover but I like the original R1fit better than the new slimmer fit. A really good under wader layer. I am 5'9" 165lb and I find the fit a bit snug and slightly long although a good layering piece.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sizing all over the place...... Dear Patagonia, what happened to your sizing with your R1 pullovers? I own two R1's from several seasons ago in the PowerDry fabric and they are indeed a SLIM fit, which is what you would want in a technical climbing garment. I also own an R1 hoody from the same year and it is a slim, technical fit as well. Love all three garments. My local dealer was having an end-of-season blowout so I tried on a current R1 and was very disappointed as the pullover fit me like a sack of potatoes. It was way too baggy. To further add to my dismay and confusion, I found an R2 jacket which I did end up buying because it had a proper SLIM fit on me. Both the R1 and R2 are described as having a SLIM fit on your website, so I don't get it. Perhaps I tried a lemon? For reference, I am 5'9'', 188 lbs, 34 inch waist.
