On a 21-day canoe trip down the Nahanni River, every piece of gear has to pull its weight. The R2® Jacket is an easy choice. For northern latitudes, frigid starts and cold weather, the highly refined construction and fabric of this Regulator® fleece traps heat and breathes freely to keep you warm and comfortable across a wide range of conditions. The main body relies on high-loft Polartec® Thermal Pro® recycled polyester fabric, which is superlight, wicking, compressible, stretchy and soft. R1® Polartec Power Grid™ high/low grid panels wrap each cuff and run along the underside of the arms and down the sides to improve fit, mobility and comfort range. The cuff’s spiral-seam construction won’t constrict your forearms when you push up the sleeves, the softly lined inner collar and kissing-welt zipper garage go easy on the neck and chin, sonic/stitch seam construction on all zippers reduces bulk, offset shoulder seams stay clear of pack straps, zippers close the external pockets (one chest and two handwarmers, above harness line), and the handwarmers’ pocket bags double as stealthy internal mesh drop-in pockets.
  • Exceptionally warm, directionally knit Polartec® Thermal Pro® fabric is breathable, compressible, wicks moisture and dries quickly
  • Polartec Power Grid™ on side panels, sleeves and cuffs improves fit, breathability and abrasion resistance
  • Technical fit, underarm gussets and raglan sleeves increase mobility and comfort under outerwear and packs
  • All zippers have Sonic/Stitch seam construction to reduce bulk and improve suppleness; soft kissing-welt zipper garage at chin for next-to-skin comfort
  • Spiral-seam construction at cuff allows sleeves to push up easily without constricting forearms
  • One left-chest pocket and two high handwarmer pockets have slim zip installs, clean-finished zipper garages and are harness- and pack-compatible; two interior drop-in mesh pockets

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Men's R2® Jacket is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 49.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very light and feels very warm. Too slim a fit. I am almost angry that this jacket doesn't work out for me. I wanted something close to the body for those extremely cold days. Unfortunately, I can't keep this jacket on for very long before my shoulder/upper-back/armpit feels too compressed. Sizing up only make the jacket too long, and my upper-back still feel compressed. This has a runner/cyclist fit, I am sure some runner could fit into it nicely as well, but not me. It's amazingly soft, warm, light, and very close to the body. If this fits you, it would be a pretty amazing piece to have.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice and long I'm a 5'10" 140# woman with long arms and a long torso- finding a fleece that is long enough without being too wide is a challenge. I ordered a men's M and it is a little loose in the body, but perfect otherwise. I've hardly taken it off!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Runs Very Small! Bought this in size Medium for my son who is on the small side of medium. It was way too small. I wear a women's size 2 or 4 and it just barely fit me. When I tried it on, I saw how warm it is. I'm thinking about keeping it for me. The length and sleeves are long in proportion to the overall fit- so I'm not sure. My overall rating is average but because of the poor sizing I rated this fair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these fleeces They are perfect for me. I am tall and slim and need the length and narrower fit. The weight of the fleece is light and is very soft. Perfect!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally, an appropriate length Purchased the R2 to replace one I had from years ago. Warm, comfortable, and nice length. I am 6" 3", 210 lbs. and struggle to find clothes long enough to cover appropriately when layering. The R2 fits the bill. Now if we could get the retro-fleece cut in a longer length, I'd got that route. Well satisfied with this product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from R2 The material is great, soft on the skin. However, it is very tight around the shoulder/under arm area. Plus, the collar is awkward. The zipper points of the collar stand up, but the back of the collar folds awkwardly, making you look like an amateur.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Recommend passing on the R2 I was replacing an older R2 with a new one. As always, sizing is more suited to anorexic runway models. I'm a large and it fits in sleeve length and shoulders, but I do not possess a 28 inch waist. The zipper is tiny and seems fragile, unlike military Patagonia clothing I owned in the past. Last and most annoying for me is the simply refuses to lay flat so I used two sided tape to keep it from being a Mandarin collar.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Small in shoulders Unfortunately I had to return the jacket. As other reviewers said it does run tight through the shoulders. He couldn't reach out in front of him. I ordered a Medium for a 5'7" 140lb 19yr old runner. He thought the large would be too baggy in the body.
