We stand behind everything we make, including our wetsuits. But wetsuits require care if they are going to perform and wear the way they were intended. Patagonia is not responsible for wetsuits that are abused or show normal wear and tear over time. Scratches and fading are inevitable, as are tears from the occasional close call with a fin. Open-ocean power and the Landlord lurking down below—past Point Conception, things get a little more involved. With anatomical patterning and high-quality neoprene that meets Patagonia's rigorous standards for stretch, durability and warmth, the R3® Front-Zip Full Suit keeps your performance levels high when you're stalling into chilly backhand barrels. The torso and thighs are lined with 66% recycled polyester/25% chlorine-free merino wool/9% spandex; the hydrophobic, 67% recycled polyester microgrid thermal lining in the arms and legs dries fast, minimizes weight and offers excellent flex. The floating front-zip provides ease of entry and maximizes freedom of motion through the shoulders and chest, and 100% exterior seam sealing eliminates leaks. Other features include a durable, water-resistant 88% recycled polyester/12% spandex exterior face fabric, hidden key loop and long-lasting Supratex kneepads. Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very glad I gave Patagonia a second chance! In short, a great suit- have now bashed it in UK in early winter, and it is warm, flexible (although still difficult to get off after a four hour session...), and sizing is spot on (6'3", just under 200lbs, and LT fits perfect -I find I have excess rubber on other manufacturers in LT, but not with this version of Patagonia suit). Why second chance? I bought the first generation all-wool lined R3 (and R4 for Scotland in winter), and they were great suits. Unfortunately, I made the mistake to "upgrade" (so I thought) to the second generation suits in 2013. Major disappointment (sizing in LT was off, and suits were cold). Only research and talking to surf shops persuaded me to give Patagonia a second chance (given what the company stands for), and I am very glad I did. Super-stoked! As warm as the first generation of suits, but more flexible.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Warm Suit but... Let me start off by saying that Patagonia is a great brand and they make great products. That being said, I bought an R3 front-zip last year in December 2014. I needed a warm suit to get me through daily dawn patrol sessions in central California. The suit was a major improvement from the previous years' model in terms of stretch. It was warm and flexible enough for above the lip antics. A . However, this suit really only lasted me the Winter, Spring, and Summer seasons. Keep in mind that I am no imbecile and I take very good care of my suits. After every session I soak the suit in a bath of cold fresh water for 15 minutes and then I hang dry out of the sun. Also, keep in mind that I surf at least 4 times a week, so this suit got a lot of use. But now that Fall has arrived I have found that this suit is not keeping me warm as I would hope. Each morning I am quite cold in just 64 degree F water. Now to be far, no wetsuit I have ever owned has been able to keep me warm for two full winter seasons. I hoped Patagonia would somehow be able to bend those rules, but alas, reality strikes. Fit is great. Stretch is great. What the brand stands for is great. Can't win them all I guess...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm, comfortable, bulletproof suit This was my first suit from Patagonia. Ive worn a lot of their gear but have always found the fit of their suits to not be a match for me. My old 4/3 was taking a hard nose-dive into the recycle bin after only one fall/winter season in Central and Northern California, with a few trips to the Northeast. I picked up the R3 and immediately took a California road trip to try and beat the snot out of it. I logged small Refugio, poked around my homebreaks in Morro Bay, and went north to Ocean Beach. I am not easy on suits. They get surfed in, maybe a water bottle rinse, and then they get thrown in the back of the truck with metal shavings, firewood, tools and surfboards. It has held up extremely well. The small fits perfectly and the underarm seams dont hinder paddling. Its stretchy, and by far the warmest 4 mil I have ever worn. I get cold easily and usually wear a hood, but even without boots I wasnt cold. The wool lining helps a ton. I love this suit so much that Ive started to swap out my old suits. The R3 completely exceeded my expectations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from INCREDIBLE UPDATE Finally! I have purchased multiple wetsuits from Patagonia, trying to put my money into brands I believe in. However the Patagonia suits to this point have felt more cumbersome and less ergonomic than the big name brands, both of whom I have worked for, one from my hometown. The newest R3 blows away the old R3 due to the updated lighter, softer, materials and an incredible fit. I'm 5'7" 165lbs and the MS fits perfectly. I don't have to be an escape artist to get out of the thing because the new materials slide on the skin (better for paddling) and stretch way more than the old stuff. Add to cart!
