The alpine bouldering of the Rocky Mountains means long approaches, gnarled rock, fickle weather and the occasional leap of faith on the down climb. Through all of that, our multifaceted Sidesend Pants remain unfazed. Their 4-way stretch provides exceptional mobility and comfort when you’re bouldering, backpacking or traveling in dynamic terrain. Sidesends feature a stretch-woven fabric blend of 91% recycled polyester/9% spandex that’s treated with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish to shed moisture. Lightweight, breathable, wind- and abrasion-resistant, they feature articulated knees and a gusseted crotch that allow the full range of mobility. A curved waistband provides a contoured fit and reduces any downward migration. Four pockets keep you organized, and a slightly slimmed-down, tapered silhouette ensures your feet stay clear of excess fabric. Inseam is 30".

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Men's Sidesend Pants - Short is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pants Bought two pair and love them. All pluses for me: nice fabric thickness, stretchable without blowing out of shape like jeans, thinner leg appearance that doesn't hinder movement, and the zip pockets are useful. I've worn these on casual days at work, and they will be great all-round pants for traveling or hiking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful pant Bought this about a month ago, and I like it so much. I don't mind to get another one in different color.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great pants Really like these for lightweight but strong adventure pants. Only bummer is that they come folded like a pair of dress pants and have an unfortunate pleat. I prefer pants like this to be flat front. The pleat might be good if you're having business meetings on the trail.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big fan Great fit and a good stretch in these pants. I wore them for four days on the Inca Trail and for another few days wandering around Peru. Great pants for travel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic pants! I bought these for a 2 week trip in Iceland. These held up to pretty much everything Iceland had to throw at me, repelled most rain and when it got too ridiculous, dried faster than I expected. I didn't take them off for the whole trip as they were too comfortable and wore them on the plane ride home. They definitely fit slim but that's what I was going for and they are great for any occasion depending how you dress them up, down, or functionally.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from For men with thin legs; must pay return shipping The waist was a perfect fit (size 30); but the pants were skin tight on my hips and thighs. I'm a fit person with some muscle in my legs and they were too tight. I had to pay $10 for return shipping and refund. No pants and $10 less in my bank. Sucks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite hikers -- and office pants too! I got these on a recommendation from a friend who uses them while climbing. I needed a hardcore pair of pants that I could ride with in light rain and still look good in the office. The first ride was a bit wet and muddy, but when I got to the office a simple shake was all it took to rid the legs of the mud and water. Now, after at least 5 weekend hiking trips to the White Mountains they are my favorite hikers too. It seems that nothing sticks to these pants. They still live up to their original function -- the stretch fabric is super comfortable to ride my bike with, hike and scramble on the trail, and sit cross-legged in the office. What more could I ask for?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than Simple Guides I bought these to replace/add to my simple guide pants. Fabric seems to be awfully similar in all regards, but the fit is way better because you have options for both waist and inseam. Also, the legs taper a bit on these pants, which I prefer for hiking, snowshoeing, etc. These pants are perhaps a bit more narrow in the thigh, but I have big thighs.
