A new twist on an emerging classic, these running shorts blend enhanced protection and coverage with the high storage features of our favored Strider Pros. A polyester/spandex boxer brief liner (with Polygiene® permanent odor control) adds chafe-free comfort to the 7" length, while the four overlapping, stretchy-mesh back hip pockets (two on each side) carry what you need for a full day of mountain running. A card-sized center-back pocket closes securely with a zipper. The pockets lie flat and won’t flap when empty, but expand generously to hold everything from energy gels to a Houdini® Jacket. A smooth, fast-drying 100% polyester (50% recycled) micro dobby forms the shorts’ body, while 100% polyester Air Flow mesh panels and side splits increase ventilation. Brushed elastic lines the waistband and the sturdy drawcord’s routing allows for internal or external tying. With a reflective logo on the left hem and a DWR (durable water repellent) finish. Fabric is bluesign® approved.

Water Resistant

(durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Odor Resistant

Polygiene® odor control permanently protects your garments from smelling like a middle school locker room. Sweat itself is odorless, but it creates the conditions that bacteria need to multiply, and some of those bacteria produce odors. Polygiene permanent odor control stops the growth of odor-causing bacteria on fabrics, so you can wear more and wash less.

Active only on the fabric surface, Polygiene permanent odor control does not interfere with perspiration or with the skin’s natural bacterial flora. Polygiene particles are more than 100 times larger than nanoparticles and therefore are too large to penetrate to the skin’s barrier. Polygiene-treated fabrics have received Medical Class 1 approval in Europe, the same class that includes bandages.

Men's Strider Pro Shorts - 7 In. is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from My New Favorites! I was a big fan of the material and pockets on the Strider Pro 5 in. shorts but always preferred a boxer brief liner and a few more inches to the length. These shorts address both those issues. Pros: Durability - After 7 months of logging countless miles and running races up to 100miles these shorts still show minimum wear. A small tear as occurred on the elastic hem of the larger left pocket from where I keep my phone at times but that has not hindered its performance. One issue I've had with similar shorts from another manufacturer is the liner ripping. The Strider Pro 7 boxer brief liner has shown absolutely zero wear in the entire time I've owned them. Pockets - Absolutely amazing and one of the reasons these shorts are my go to for any distance. If I want to run lightweight without a vest I can cram everything I need in these pockets. Most recently during a 50k race I carried my cell phone, gel flask, 2 packs of chews, beef jerky strips, salt tabs, keys/license/cc and still had 1 pocket empty. Style - These shorts just plain look great. I always get compliments from my running buddies on how these bad boys make me look stylish while shredding the trails. Occasionally my wife will also request I wear my Strider Pro 7's just around the house so she can enjoy how they make my legs look. Cons: Drawstring - Ok, if I had one complaint (and I do) it's the drawstring. It's not elastic and has no give to it. I find myself having to readjust it often during my runs. Patagonia, can we look into this so we can move from "Amazingly Great" shorts to "Perfect!" shorts? Colors - I get it. These are a brand spanking new product, and while I love my greenies and am OK with my grey pair I'd love some more color options. Solid black? Please. Grey with black pockets like the 5in? Sure! Neon yellow with orange pockets and blue stitching? Eh, let's not get carried away. So, all-in-all these shorts are fantastic, perform well, look good, and hold up great under miles and miles of use. I've converted several of my friends over to them already and will continue to their sing praises to runners everywhere. Oh yeah, sizing. I'm 5,9 150lbs. I usually varie between sizes small and medium in, well, almost everything. I've found the Small fits best for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I am always in search of the elusive Holy Grail of Shorts. Those that are comfortable over long distances, but have a function component. I'll be honest, I like the North Face Long Haul, but they are just not durable. This Patagonia Pro Strider, are clearly my new front runner. Pros: I Like the length. Not immodest, but I dont want 5" inseam. Color choices are nice, but not so bold to be in-your-face. The inner liner has not led to any chaffing yet. 18miles is the longest I've gone in them. I'll try then on a 100k in June for a true test. love LOVE the pockets. I like having those gel pockets in my ultra shorts to hold wrappers and garbage in between aid stations. Of course they can hold gel as well, but my pack usually has those. having a zipper pocket across the back is a great feature, no fear of a lost car key. Cons: I would say they run a little slim. Think slim jean vs comfort fit jean. They are mildly snug across the front. Its not a pro, but not a giant con either. i would like it if the inner short/liner offered more compression. I would not complain if they were cheaper. I expect to pay for good shorts, and these are suitable priced, but I wish all good shorts were a bit cheaper. I would recommend these. The only caveat I have, is i cannot yet speak to their long term durability. I like these the same way I loved the North Face Long Haul, but the seams on TNF short would give out after only a few 50s. These Patagonia's will be a grand slam for me if I can get a full year or more out of them. Why 4 of 5 stars? 5th start is withheld until I can gauge that long term durability

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid shorts These are fantastic trail running shorts. Can fit a phone, houdini jacket, keys, and gels in the pockets with no problem and the mesh pockets hold it all solid and stable. I prefer the boxer liner for longer runs. The drawstring or waistband could use more elastic in it - you do have to cinch the drawstring pretty tight where you want it but it doesn't budge after. Otherwise, these are the best running shorts I've owned.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Compression liner was too much for me! I own a couple pairs of the 5" Strider Pros, but also like 7" length shorts for working out, so thought I'd give these a try. Unfortunately the "built-in boxer brief" is thick, tight-fitting, and long, almost like compression shorts that are a size too small. I will either cut the liners out or donate them. Note: I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 because the outer fabric and styling are great, like most Patagonia offerings.
