bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Traceable Down Insulation

Patagonia Traceable Down provides the highest assurance of animal welfare in the apparel industry. Every down cluster, in every one of our down products, comes exclusively from birds that were never force-fed and never live-plucked. How do we know? We hired an independent third-party expert to trace and verify our down supply chain from farm to jacket–and every step in between. Learn more

Men's Thunder Cloud Down Parka is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 26.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cinch cord too high, not as warm as expected The "waist" cinch cord is above my navel at the bottom of my ribs, MUCH too high to be effective in keeping warm because drafts get to your core. For a long coat, this is a complete failure of design. The Patagonia test models must all be hobbits. I don't know what they were thinking, but if I could return it after this winter I would. Jacket is cold at the bend of your elbow where the down is compressed. The jacket is actually only moderately warm in 20 degree weather. I expected more, but Patagonia isn't transparent about how much fill (in grams or ounces) they put in their garments, only what fill weight (600, 800). Otherwise, it's a handsome coat, with a tough feeling exterior that holds up to rain, sleet, snow in cold temperatures. This jacket is purely fashion if that wasn't clear in the design or ad copy. There are better options for the price on the market given the issues I experienced. I'm 6' tall and 180 pounds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does not disappoint This jacket makes you feel impervious to the elements. I've seen some other reviews that the jacket isn't warm enough, but I decided to order the jacket anyway. I'm glad I did, and I disagree with people who think this jacket isn't warm enough. I usually wear this jacket when it gets below 10 degrees Fahrenheit, and haven't been disappointed, even when the temperature has gotten down to -10. I haven't had a chance to see how it holds up against colder temperatures (yet). This jacket offers complete protection from wind, sheer cold (the down is great, and the down hood is an added bonus). It's got four fantastic kangaroo pockets on the front, and two side zip pockets. (i.e. I've never had a problem finding a place to store my belongings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Parka Bought this parka for a trip to Germany a few weeks back. Living in Southern California, I don't really have much of a need for a coat of this magnitude, so I was debating if the purchase was justified up until the last minute. I have to say, I am so glad I pulled the trigger! This will be a useful piece of kit for years to come. Wore it daily for a week, in temperatures from 13 - 20 deg. with a lot of snow and wind. This coat is extremely warm, and very comfortable. I'm 6'2", 170 lbs and Medium fits me perfectly. I got the black one, looks great in the city or on the mountain. A lot of people commented on the high hand pockets. They are high, but it did not bother me at all. So many pockets, all well placed and constructed, very handy. Hood is well thought out, and adjusts well, with and without hat, beanies, etc. Construction and materials are top notch, as expected with Patagonia.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Warm coat, Awful Build Quality. I bought this late last year and the stitching came undone on the zip the veery first time I used it. It thread is ultra thin, cheap and flimsy and for the price of this coat it is totally unacceptable. I have since sewn the zip myself with reinforced double thread. The jacket is super warm and weatherproof though. It's not the first time Ive had problems with a Patagonia Jacket. The Velcro cuff came undone on a Patagonia Adze jacket I purchased after a few weeks of use. It's the last time I will buy a product from this company.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I live in this thing in the Russian north! I bought this parka for a 9 month research trip to the far, Russian north and it's worked out very well. I've been basically living in it since October and with the coldest days of winter behind me (today it's a balmy -1°F), I felt it was time to review. First off, the only issue I've had was that I had to take the jacket in to my local seamstress to secure the main zipper, which had broken loose after months of wear and tear. The break wasn't significant and I've had no other zipper issues. There were a couple of weeks when the mercury dropped to -40°F and stayed there and the coat served me well. I get around town on foot (I walk about 1-3 miles a day) and with proper layering (hiking tee, Patagonia Better Sweater pullover, and Thunder Cloud parka) I was very warm (sweaty even). Of course the coat's warmth relative to how you dress and what you're doing, but if you wear it properly and have realistic expectations, it will perform. The H2No finish on the coat has been great. The snowfall up here is pretty dry, but when we had a thaw a couple of weeks ago we had some light rain/freezing rain and strong winds and the parka kept me warm and dry. I spent some time earlier in the winter in St. Petersburg, where it snowed in the morning and rained in the evening and the coat stayed dry. To test the warmth of the parka without base layers, I wore a t-shirt and jeans to meet my wife (it was -5°F) and I was warm, though wouldn't recommend standing around. All of the features of this coat are excellent. I'm extremely satisfied with how it's held up and stayed clean after daily useage. For context, I'm 5' 11, (husky athletic build).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Warm! This parka is very warm! The zipper seems somewhat flimsy, but it still works for me!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome for warmth and weather Awesome jacket for weather and cold conditions. Very warm with just a t-shirt on underneath in the 15-30F degree ranges. Will get to hot and sweaty if I'm really active. Great fit and long arms. Awesome for walking around town on a snowy night.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Absolutely MUST have jacket for winter. Pros - Hand pocket location at the chest is genius, warm, and ergonomic Insulated hood makes a huge difference Plenty of pockets Easy to layer Looks incredibly cool and rugged Cons - No bill on the hood Inside chest zipper gets caught constantly in the fabric which is incredibly annoying Zippers in general should be larger and better quality, hard to use with gloves on (-1 star) Small's is just a touch too small, medium is too big. Im 5'11'' 160... broad shoulders and a narrow waist. Overall best jacket ever. Ill happily handle the cons.
