Water Resistant

(durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

2.5-layer H2No® Performance Standard shell fabrics are completely waterproof, windproof, breathable and highly packable for backpacking, alpine climbing and backcountry skiing. They combine a water-repellent shell fabric with a waterproof/breathable membrane and a protective top coat barrier without needing a protective lining fabric. A raised print layer is applied to decreased layering friction and increase moisture management.

2.5-layer H2No® Performance Standard shell fabrics are coated with DWR
(durable water repellent) fabric finish that repels light rain and snow. In conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

All products bearing the H2No mark have been vigorously tested for durability in our 24 Killer Wash.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Miss the old jacket This jacket is nice and I'm sure it will get the job done but I had an older Torrentshell jacket and I loved that jacket - I think it was much nicer. The air vent was much longer, which was really nice because this jacket can get really hot when wearing it during warmer weather. Also the pockets were huge - went the entire length of the front of the jacket. Also when you fold this jacket up into the pocket there is nothing to hook it from. I think the fit is true to size. It's not too big or too small. It allows for some layers underneath.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Soaked in Costa Rica I continue to swear by Patagonia products, but this jacket is not at all as described. It is my first big disappointment from Patagonia. My girlfriend and I just got home to Crested Butte after a trip to Costa Rica in the rainy season. We have matching Torrentshell jackets which seemed perfect for the trip. We climbed a volcano yesterday and both were soaked to the bone inside our jackets. She dutifully zipped her phone in a ziplock bag and put it in the pocket of her Torrentshell before the climb only to discover that, after a 3 hour torrential downpour, the phone was sitting in a deep pool of water inside the closed zipper pocket. Both of our jackets were soaked through like wet rags and the phone is ruined because we believed the product description saying the jacket was waterproof. As a hard core mountain adventurer, I rely on Patagonia's products and their product descriptions. I trust that when something says its waterproof that it will keep me dry when my life is on the line. The fact that this particular product description was so horribly wrong is very concerning as I select future products to protect me from the elements.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful jacket. Wonderful jacket. Has immediately become my spring Go To jacket for bad weather for biking, walking, hiking, and just heading out for just about anything. Has so far excessed expectations! Would highly recommend this product!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad Zippers This is my second torrent shell. I was very happy with the first version because of the Velcro along the zipper and the ease of use with the chest and armpit zippers. The new version's zippers are very marginal (catch is fabric) and I would not recommend to anyone that is looking for a high functioning jacket to do everything from skiing to fishing. I love all of my other Patagonia products!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Closest to Perfection This jacket is completely waterproof that literally beads water as it bounces right off the jacket without any wet residue. Front zipper has 2 outer and 1 inner flap to keep water out. Wrists have velcro straps to tighten and waist cinches to limit wind draft. Hood with visor has rear and front pulls to tighten. Under arms have zippers to release heat. Front has 2 zippered hand pockets. Jacket can stow into the pocket pouch for travel. Incredible 50 Denier shell for durability. Missing is the hood does not convert into a collar (strap to avoid flapping), more zippered pockets including inner needed, lack of reflection for evenings and noisy shell when moving. Overall, owned a few different brands and consider this as the best Shell on the market.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for most things....troublesome for others Strengths - Light weight....windproof.....basically zips Weakness - Breathability is marginable under conditions where temps are warmish and activity level is high. Skiing when temps are 30-40 but you want the windproof advantage, jacket retains enough vapor to condensate on inner surface. Patagonia zippers (and I truly love Patagonia products) tend to jam on pocket closures or with this jacket as it closes up around the neck area. Any closure curve tends to compromise zipper reliability

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worthwhile jacket This jacket fits well and accommodates under layering for warmth. I've worn it skiing, shoveling snow and using a snow blower this winter and appreciated it being windproof and water resistant. It is a little noisy due to the material, but not that distracting. I'm hoping for good results with rain and that the zipper will hold up under lots of use. Seems like a good value for the price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Walking in the rain.. The Torrentshell Jacket is nicely designed, but is a tab bit small in the body.. It fits like it's made for a thin person. I am average sized but the jacket when zipped close does not have much room for me to add layering underneath.. The jacket needs more room in the body area..
