bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Fair Trade Certified™

We pay a premium for every Fair Trade Certified item that carries our label. That extra money goes directly to the workers at the factory, and they decide how to spend it. The program also promotes worker health and safety and social and environmental compliance, and encourages dialog between workers and management. Fair Trade is one of the first tools we’re using at Patagonia to raise workers’ wages, improve their standard of living and move them closer to earning a living wage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will provide the protection I need I'm 63 and go to the beach almost every year. I've suffered quite a bit of skin damage and need protection, especially for my hands and the back of my bald head. I think this hoody will do the trick. The fit seems about right. (I'm 6'4" and 230 lbs, but can fit into an XL.) I was unsure about the choice of colors (they're bright), but the Radar Blue looks great. This hoody will also be worn when I walk and ride a bike. I look forward to wearing it this summer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super lightweight sun protection- iffy sewing. Wonderful to wear fishing the flats, standing on a skiff in the tropical sun, or just hiding from the mid-day heat. Very breathable and cool with thoughtful features like a snap in front to keep the sun coverage above the collarbone and a nice wide hood that you could forget about when looking for fish. The only downside is the banded hem on the wrists started coming loose after wearing it 1-2 days, so the hanging loop would catch on the reel handle or rod butt. Not the typical Patagonia quality I expect. Otherwise, very practical and a good color in light blue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product Great lightweight second layer to wear while fishing, hiking, skiing, etc. dries fast naturally and wicks sweat from the body.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I needed I bought this hoody for sun protection for 6 days of bonefishing at Turneffe Flats off the coast of Belize. Super sun protection - no sunburn at all even though the whole 8 hours each day we were in direct sun - no shade - either fishing from the skiff of stalking them on the flats.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love how comfortable this is! I've worn this so many times already. Every time I go sailing, there is no need to worry about sunscreen anymore.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing hoody I really enjoyed wearing this hoody, I had bought it for a trip I planned for Arches and Rocky Mountain N.P. The hoody did great in both climates. One hot and sunny with the hood up, the other cool and overcask under a ultralight down hoody. This hoody has become a staple in my outdoor outwear! Btw I'm almost 6' and weight 170lbs and bought a medium. A large would have been too big.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great flats fishing and travel top I've used this top all over the world now - Iceland, Patagonia, all over the US. I love my 2015 version in heathered lime green. I just reordered a second one and I must say I am disappointed. Like with the Better Sweaters, Patagonia has inexplicably gone to a much larger sizing on this new top. They also seem to have gone to a slicker, stretchier fabric that doesn't feel near as comfortable on the skin. I'm going to be swapping my Size Medium out for a Small. The Medium is truly more like an extra large -- these already ran kind of big to wear loose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product-- where's the women's equivalent??? I bought this hoody for sun protection for a variety of outdoor activities. It has done an awesome job at keeping me from getting roasted, and the loose, light fabric actually keeps me cooler in hot, direct sunlight. It's been on search and rescue missions, on the river, on the bike, and even on the lawnmower in 100+ degree heat. I love the fabric and light color choices. Patagonia, we need a women's version! While the men's small is workable for me (I'm normally w's M), more petite women would probably prefer smaller sizing. The women's sunshade hoody just doesn't cut it with the double knit fabric and tight fit.
