There are still a few situations where board shorts don’t really fly and most of them involve the in-laws. Made from the same durable and quick-drying nylon (38% recycled) as our most classic board shorts, the new Wavefarer™ Walk Shorts blend water-friendly performance with an everyday walk-short silhouette. A DWR (durable water repellent) finish, 50+ UPF sun protection and bartacked interior drawcord give them great functionality when you’re surfing, bouldering or backflipping into the lake; classic flat-front chino styling with belt loops saves you from disapproving looks at dinner, while the flat-lying rubber button fly and closure provide long-wearing comfort in any situation. The two front slash pockets and two rear pockets have self-draining mesh pocket bags; the right rear pocket is buttoned, has an internal key loop and is Surf Dry Bag-compatible. Outseam is 20".

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Nylon

Although we’ve been using recycled polyester in our garments for 20 years, for some reason locked deep in polymer chemistry, nylon is more difficult to recycle than polyester. After years of research, development, and testing, we’re finally finding some recycled nylon fibers that are suitable for apparel.

Some of the recycled nylon we use comes from post-industrial waste fiber, yarn collected from a spinning factory, and waste from the weaving mills that can be processed into reusable nylon fiber.

We’re diligently searching for a success story with recycled nylon. The challenge lies ahead of us, and we’re committed to discovering the best methods to recycle nylon fiber, but it appears this evolution will take many years.

Men's Wavefarer Walk Shorts - 20 In. is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Digging the cut - they way these shorts sit ... super comfortable. I think its a combination of material, cut and style ... most comfortable shorts I own. grabbed 2 pair for this summer in FL. Def runs small. I ordered 1 size larger than I normally wear. Not baggy.. just chill.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wayfarer shorts Good looks and features but overall too tight/small although waist size is accurate

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Short I don't quite understand what all the fuss is about but my shorts fit very true to size. The short is an amphibian style short that you can wear in or out of the water. I would say that the shorts are overall well designed. I wouldn't recommend working in them or climbing because it is a lighter material so I don't think they would hold up to the abuse a Stand-Up short could handle. I would definitely recommend for a hiking trip where you may want to jump into a lake as they dry remarkably well. I'm not particularly a huge fan of the string drawstring but i know some people really enjoy them so that is more of a preference issue. But overall still a great pair of shorts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great look and comfortable! I bought this for an upcoming safari and it seems perfect. One short to rule them all! I will agree that these run small, I had to go up 2 inches from a 32 to a 34 for it to fit normally.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extreme Comfort I purchased these a few weeks ago and have been wearing them everywhere. I have gotten quite a few complements on them. They are very comfortable and great for outdoor walking/hiking around town or on the trails.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No belt, No weight,No problem! These shorts are great. The wavefarer material is extremely comfortable, light and soft. The drawstring is key though. Never need to wear a belt which makes the shorts truly amphibious - unlike other "amphibious" shorts out there. How many people suf with a belt? Elastic is for running shorts and fixed waist needs to be too tight for casual wear. I bounce between NJ and FL and I wear these newer wavefarer hybrid shorts all year round. You can't have too many pairs of these.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not even close to regular fit I've been buying Patagonia size 38 shorts for twenty years. Never had to think about trying them on first to check for size. These shorts are not cut at all like any of the other regular fit 38" waist shorts I have. Great fabric, but very disappointed that they don't fit.
