Learn More Close
Hardcore salmon, steelhead and trout anglers around the world tend to share two common traits: obsession bordering on lunacy and SST Jackets. Today’s version of the iconic fishing jacket features our latest advances in shell design and technology, along with a host of angler-friendly details. Made from H2No® Performance Standard, 3-layer nylon double ripstop with a waterproof/breathable barrier and a DWR (durable water repellent) finish, the SST is durable and extremely light. There’s also an integrated hood with single-pull adjustment and waterproof, corrosion-resistant ririAQUAzip® main and handwarmer pocket zippers. The now-classic large, gusseted chest pockets (with forceps stash inside left pocket) are waterproof and set high for deep wading. A double belt loop on the back allows you to cinch your wading belt over the jacket and waders, creating a nearly waterproof seal for greater safety in the event of a spill. Streamlined reverse StretchCoat® cuffs lie flat, resist line snagging and seal out water. More details: Y-Joint™ sleeves with anatomically curved elbows, three Beastie D-rings (two on front, one on back), large back pocket and hidden rod holder. The SST is our shortest-length fishing jacket.

Water Resistant

DWR
(durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Weatherproof

3-layer H2No® Performance Standard fabrics are completely waterproof, windproof and breathable by virtue of an advanced combination of elements: a water-repellent shell fabric and a waterproof/breathable membrane bonded with an ultralight knit backer. The entire fabric package is highly packable and designed for prolonged use in extreme weather.

3-layer H2No® Performance Standard shell fabrics are coated with DWR
(durable water repellent) fabric finish that repels light rain and snow. In conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

All products bearing the H2No mark have been vigorously tested for durability in our 24 Killer Wash.

Men's Sst Jacket is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great jacket for travel All comments tempered because I haven't tried it in heavy rain, but would be confident it lives up to Patagonia reputation. From fly fisher perspective this is a practical, lightweight shell type jacket. We don't like built in insulation as that is added through layering. This means jacket can be used in both hot and cold regions. A light, breathable shell is best option. Sizing is pretty good, a little larger than regular fit, but that allows for layering underneath. I could wear a down vest under jacket comfortably without it feeling bulky with jacket, or simply over a t-shirt. This means I can wear jacket in wide range of conditions from monsoonal downpour to night winter fishing in a snowfall. Pockets are good size allowing one to avoid fly vest if desired. There is certainly enough room for a day out on the water. Pockets within main pockets help keep sensitive items such as phones and modern car keys out of the rain, even maybe protecting against slips and accidental immersion or swims. I've yet to test this. The only improvement I could suggest is to be able to store the hood when not in use. There are many days when I don't need a hood, including light rain when a broad brim hat would suffice. Unfortunately my experience in these condition is that water can pool inside hood until the unpleasant splash down ones back when the hood is put over one's head. I prefer to keep hood off to allow me to listen for supple noises of rising fis especially chasing tailing fish on Tassie central highlands. Hoods over ears can block this sound. Heavy rain is forecast for my trip to NZ next week. I'll be able to update jackets wet weather credentials on return.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Winter Steelhead! I own the River Salt jacket as well (and love it) but needed more room to add even more layers on a rainy/snowing 20 degree day on the Trinity. Day after Xmas I had 5 layers on top and 3 below - couldn't add the last and most important big puffy layer of down in the River Salt but the SST handled it fine. Great pockets, very well thought out overall. Fish on!
