bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Water Resistant

DWR (durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight, extra sun protection! I've taken this gem with me out kayaking a few times now, and love it! So thankful for the chin strap, or I'd definitely have lost it to the wind. Also, the hat is very comfortable when pulled snug down over your head, not suffocating at all. However, I found myself propping it up to my hairline anyhow once I started sweating a bit; it's so light that you really hardly notice it on at all.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good sun protection - fashion...meh. I bought this hat b/c my Dr. ordered a wide brimmed hat to provide protection from the sun. I bought the larger size to make sure I didn't get hot (a problem during the summer). While it's loose (and probably too loose for sports), it works well for gardening, driving to and from work and I plan to wear it when we go surfing. Its not the most fashionable, but it does the job and I could wear it anywhere.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Hat - But Beware of Wind! I was looking for a hat to replace my dorky fishing-style hat, and wanted one with feminine style. Even hiking rainforests and combing beaches, this girl still wants to look good! The fit was good (I bought a small and have a normal to small sized head). The color was nice and neutral. The fabric is lightweight and good quality. The brim is large enough to keep the sun off your face. The brim is slightly floppy, but stiff enough that a breeze will lift it like a Frisbee from your head and send it flying if you're not careful. I wore it on an island vacation, and it was great to keep the sun off, and not too hot. but I usually wore the chin strap so I wouldn't lose it (especially on boat trips). It will also lift and turn inside out like an umbrella if the wind is very strong. I learned to tilt my head into the wind and it flipped back into place. It does fold for packing without any problem. It washes easily (delicate cycle) and dries fairly quickly (hang to dry).

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too big Was hoping the diameter was smaller- was too broad to wear while wearing a pace. Hits the top back of the pack

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great sun coverage I wore this hat during all my outdoor activities last summer...hiking, fishing, a lot of swimming pool time with my kids. Great sun protection for all outdoor activities. L/XL size fits perfectly (I have a normal sized head) and the hat has held up well with multiple trips getting scrunched in luggage and even more cleanings. Only complaint is slight fading, but could be from multiple dunks in chlorine.
