The Sierra’s superb Evolution traverse combines a chilled, pre-dawn start, high-altitude temperatures, and sometimes-frigid shade with a non-stop, all-day pace. Designed to manage the extremes of high-output exertion, our Capilene® Midweight fabric hits the sweet spot of weight, breathability and wicking that is the essence of versatility worn alone or with additional layers. It keeps you dry and comfortable when worn during high-exertion activities in cool-to-moderate temperatures and insulates beneath a shell in cold weather. Constructed with a Polartec® Power Grid™ fabric, it has a smooth face for easy layering and a brushed-back grid that aids in wicking as well as warmth. The fabric has 33–66% recycled-polyester content and is treated with Polygiene® permanent odor control. Features include a flat waistband with brushed inner elastic for next-to-skin softness, a gusseted crotch for mobility and flatlock seams to minimize chafing.

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Right! Replaced my 20+ year old Capilene long underwear with these last month. They are perfect- comfortable, right size and seams don't bother me in my ski boots!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A little baggy, but still effective Works great as a baselayer under regular or athletic clothing. I think I ended up between sizes and wound up with a pair too big for me, but despite not fitting closely, they still don't bunch and keep me warm!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My New Go-to Baselayer I bought these to finally replace my 7 year old pair of mid-weight bottoms. The updated features and quality of fabric makes them a cozy luxury. The fit was right on, snug without being restricting and not too long, I am around 5ft 7in. These have been a great layer under my snow and nordic pants, neither have insulation. These bottoms have kept me warm during my snowy all day adventures, even in 18 degree F temperatures. Lastly, their ability to breath and quickly dry makes them an essential layer while adventuring in the cold weather. The one draw back was the thicker material at the cuffs and waistband take longer to dry out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great touring layer Bought these as a layer to wear under my shell snow pant for touring. I get hot touring so I needed something that was warm but breathable. These are awesome and can paired with a warmer layer when it's super cold out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this version We all know that Capeilene changes every once in awhile. I really like this version! The wide waist band is a nice feature and the material is dense (not see-through) and smooth. I choose a medium for a looser fit - a small would be snug like running tights on me. I think a looser fit is warmer and more comfortable under ski pants or my carhart overalls. The blue is beautiful!
