Worth its weight in gold when the sun dips below the horizon, our Down Sweater Vest keeps its focus simple: core warmth. It traps your hard-earned heat with high-loft, 800-fill-power Traceable Down (800-fill-power goose down from geese traced from parent farm to apparel factory to help ensure the birds that supply it are not force-fed or live-plucked, as certified by NSF, an independent third party) and its minimalist design practically floats—it’s so compact that it stuffs into an internal pocket (with a carabiner clip-in loop). The 100% recycled polyester shell with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish provides wind and weather protection, while quilting lines stabilize the down and accentuate the contoured fit. The drawcord hem tightens from inside the zippered handwarmer pockets, and nylon-bound elastic armholes seal in heat.
  • Durable shell fabric is made of 100% recycled polyester ripstop treated with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish

Traceable Down Insulation

Patagonia Traceable Down provides the highest assurance of animal welfare in the apparel industry. Every down cluster, in every one of our down products, comes exclusively from birds that were never force-fed and never live-plucked. How do we know? We hired an independent third-party expert to trace and verify our down supply chain from farm to jacket–and every step in between. Learn more

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Women's Down Sweater Vest is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 36.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light and warm I love this vest, it is incredibly light, yet very warm. It is flattering and cut just right, big enough to fit over a warm shirt, small enough to fit under other gear. Combined with my midweight parka, single digits are comfortable. Small fits perfectly. I'm 35-27-35 and 126 lbs and 5'6". I tried a medium on and it was longer, which was good, but sort of baggie, would be good if you plan on layering more underneath. My only complaint is that the armholes are a tad small. It's a vest, so clearly another shirt will be underneath and I feel I could use more room, and I'm not big shouldered.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for just about everything! The fit on this is great! A bit longer cut and hourglass in shape, size is pretty spot on for me, a small at 5'3" & 115lbs. The collar is nice and comfy zipped or open. Oversized zippers on the front and 2 side handwarmer pockets. Smaller interior chest pocket with dual zipper for vest self stuffing. Very warm and breathable. Fits over baselayers and under outer layers with equal ease. Quality piece from Patagonia that wont let you down.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very attractive This was given to me as a gift. The medium fits perfectly (I'm 5'8", small breasted but broad shoulders). It's light weight and wonderful color (silver with teal lining). I'll be taking it on a backpack trip to Chimney Pond in Baxter (Maine) the middle of Oct. This should give the vest a good test for warmth .. the lightweight is already a plus in the pack!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from New fit didn't work for me I have a prior version of this vest from ~10 years ago that I love, but it's getting pretty old and ratty and I felt like an upgrade was in order. A fun color was on sale and so I pulled the trigger. I couldn't remember what size my old vest was at home, so I ordered both a S and M. When the new vests came I was pretty disappointed. It seems that Patagonia has redesigned their clothing for stick people and not women with curves. I'm on the high side of 5'6", 140 lbs, athletic build - small waist, decent breasts, hips, and shoulders. What I really don't like about the new vest cut is the length. As other reviewers have noted, the S had a nice length (~1-2" below my hip bone), but was really tight across the breast region. The M fit like a trash bag, super loose throughout most of the torso, and then it came down to 3-4" below my hip bone, hanging so low that it constricted my leg movement. I held up the new M to my old M and it is indeed several inches longer and apparently wider as well. I also found the fabric and loft of the older vest to be more to my liking than this new model, even after years of slowly losing feathers. The redesign must be part of Patagonia's green initiative master plan. My old vest still fits like a (well-worn ratty) glove and will continue to go on adventures with me. These new ones are going back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from my favorite piece I bought this vest over a year ago, and I'm just as obsessed as I was when I purchased. I've read some reviews talking about the fit, and I have never had an issue. I'm 5'5 with a slender build and I think the Small is a very appropriate size. It fits well over a base/slightly loose layer (I usually wear unzipped). And it is excellent as a fitted, toasty layer under a jacket or coat. I've worn casually with a coat and with a thicker shell skiing. As for the tightness around the waist, I think it makes for a more secure layer under my jackets and shells. Technical enough to be a reliable, quality layer, and casual enough to wear to work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Living in this vest.... Versatile enough to hike with on Mt. Whitney on Saturday and wear to the office on Monday. A wardrobe favorite. To many activities to recommend wearing it for but I do plan on travelling with it this summer, skiing with it next winter and wearing it for a lot of other sports/activities in between.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor fit, had to return. I really really wanted to try make this work but the jacket was so ill-fitting I had to return it. I am 5"6' average build and despite the warnings of the other customers of how ill-fitting the jacket is, I decided to buy the jacket and was confident I could "make it work". Alas, "make it work" I couldn't. The jacket was very loose at the top and very snug at the hips. Every time I stood up, the jacket would creep up at the waist and swell up in the front. I tried to make it work by using it on top of bulky hoodies etc, but the fit was still awful. However, despite all the fit issues, one can see the jacket is of top notch quality and is made to last. Please make it a better shape/fit and I would give it a shot again!
