Your chalkbag might weigh more than our Merino Air® Crew. This is our lightest yet warmest merino pullover for days that start and end by headlamp. It has the warm feel of our Merino Air baselayer fabric: a blend of merino wool sourced from the grasslands of Patagonia (51%) and recycled polyester (49%). We spin the wool fibers with an innovative technology that creates a loftier yarn with a superior warmth-to-weight ratio. The lofted wool and recycled polyester yarns are then knit directly into a seamless garment with minimal waste. The result is a baselayer with superior performance qualities; it offers a stretchy, chafe-free fit, lightweight warmth, exceptional breathability and the natural odor-fighting properties of wool.
  • Fine merino wool from the grasslands of Patagonia blended with Capilene® recycled polyester for improved wicking, durability and dry time
  • 18.9 micron-gauge yarn; zigzag waffle construction
  • Fabric is soft against skin and stretches to move with the body
  • Seamless 3D construction eliminates chafe points through the entire garment and has almost no wasted material
  • 5.6-oz (190-g) 51% chlorine-free merino wool/49% recycled polyester seamless zigzag knit
  • 141 g (5 oz)
  • Made in Hong Kong.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wife loves it Highly rated mid-layer so decided to buy for the wife's backpacking into RMNP at 30-40 degrees. She loved the warmth and soft feel. Even wears it now back in Texas.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great fabric and fit, but uncomfortable neckline This is a really amazing fabric -- it manages to be very soft, cozy, and stretchy but also very warm and breathable at the same time. Best of all, it looks like everyday apparel rather than sporty/technical wear. As far as sizing, I am 5'5" and around 120 pounds, ruler shaped. I typically wear a size small in Patagonia tops that are labeled "slim fit" and XS in the ones labeled "regular fit." But I ordered this in a Medium because I wanted it loose and was ok with it fitting sort of slouchy. The Medium fit great, a little loose but still semi fitted in the right areas. I definitely could have gone down a size for a more body-hugging fit, but I liked the Medium. Sadly I had to return this beautiful sweater because the high crew neckline was uncomfortable for me. If you have semi sensitive skin, you may have the same problem. I wish they would make this same sweater in a scoop neck style; I would absolutely buy that!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Running through Canadian Winter I felt a bit silly for having spent so much when I first received this top in the mail, however, after wearing it a bit I now believe that I will get my money's worth. It is a very versatile style and can be worn on it's own as a sweater for hiking or camping and can also be used as a layering top - it works as a base layer under a hoodie or as an outer layer over a lighter shirt or t-shirt. I bought it with the Houdini running jacket with the intention of using it for running in Northern Ontario through the winter and so far it's worked well and seems promising for the colder temps to come. I got the top in green and this colour is not at all transparent as seems to be an issue with the off-white colour. The top is fitted but is a fairly generous "fitted" and does seem to stretch out a bit while retaining it's overall shape. For anyone with tummy rolls and muffin tops that do not need to be clearly defined this is a good thing. The size medium is perfect for me at 5'4" 135-140lbs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Soft, breathable, packable and cute I got the black in a size Small - I wear small in all Patagonia Regular top (125 Lbs, 5 ft6, 34dd chest). I have a long torso so I have not had any luck with slim fit tops. This shirt is long enough for me. The black does not give me see through concerns over a very thin camisole. I love the soft feel. It is frankly more comfy than cashmere for a long day of traveling. Patagonia: make more of this shirt please and do not change the fit. Color wish list: classic navy, feather grey. thanks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Soft as a cloud, and extremely versatile! I love this top! At first I was hesitant about spending so much money on a base layer but I'm glad I did. This quality piece will last for years and it's so versatile I could wear it almost every day! The fabric is soft as a cloud and works like a charm to trap body heat and hold it close for warmth. But, it's also wicking and any sweat evaporates quickly. I wear this as an every day top, layered under a tee or pullover. I also wear it hiking, walking, trekking, for travel, you name it. I got the off-white color (which is see-through) - if worn by itself I would suggest a nude bra and/or layering tank underneath. I didn't want a snug fit so I went with a size Medium which is roomy and comfortable (I'm 5'10", 145-ish lbs, 35-27-37). Length of top and arm length are good (I have a long torso and arms) - it falls to just below my hips with extra arm length also.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from bigger than expected I think Pata tops are running bigger this year, from the 3 I've tried. Since this is fitted I ordered L, since I am an 8/10 in tops, or M normally. This was so long overall that I sent it back. I'm 5'8", and appreciate the extra length usually, but a M would definitely suffice in this sweater. It's fitted, but maybe not too much to order my normal size. Knit was very nice in texture and warmth tho I wonder if it would snag easily. Green was a muted blue-green spruce color, also different than expected.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Classy undergarment Bottom line up front: this top is somewhat see-through. When I bought this top for my wife, I had been on a business trip for a few weeks and knew that we would be camping upon my return. Temps at night along Lake Michigan would be around 65 degrees, so I was looking for something that could be comfortable for her to snuggle up in during the evenings. This top definitely looks classy, but unfortunately, it is almost see-through. When I put my hand on one side of the material, you could easily see my entire hand. My wife liked it a lot, but in order for her to wear just the top (in front of company), she had to wear an undershirt. This defeated the purpose of having a comfy, beautiful top since she would have to wear another shirt underneath it. Overall, I am not faulting the quality of the garment. I would just like customers to know that this top is warm (as advertised), but it is also somewhat transparent. It is also VERY light and airy (which is its intended purpose). So I definitely think it would serve well as a base layer, but is not the campfire sweater that I thought it was going to be.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works for the city and the outback. This is a great sweater for traveling. I use it for any activity for warmth, usually trekking or biking. And it is so good looking it can be worn out at night if needed. A really great layer piece but really good looking on its own. I liked it so much I ordered the black and white. I am on my way out of the country now and have it packed for 3 weeks of heavy duty trekking in Mongolia and to use for a night on the end for dinner in Ulan Batar.
