After four days on the trail, two hailstorms and a hardscrabble pass, you’ll still be looking forward to the ultracomfortable, next-to-skin warmth of these bottoms. A heavyweight of versatility, our Merino Midweight is a wonderfully soft jersey knit suited to a wide variety of activities across a wide range of conditions. Merino wool is naturally breathable, regulates body temperature and stretches. It's also wonderfully soft and naturally resists odor. Ours is sourced from the grasslands of Patagonia. We slow-wash it for softness and shrink resistance, without the use of chlorine, then blend it with 18% Capilene® recycled polyester for durability and for dry times and moisture transfer superior to that of 100% merino. Features include a flat waistband with brushed inner elastic for next-to-skin softness, a gusseted crotch for mobility, and low-bulk merrow seams and offset inseams minimize chafing. Machine wash cold; machine dry at low temperatures.

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Women's Merino Mw Bottoms is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the pattern and warmth Great base layer. I often wear them under waterproof fleece pants in under 40° and rain/snow and always feel cozy. Like other prior commenters, I do not like the waist. It's is too big and doesn't have any grip. I'm tempted to sew in a drawstring to secure them. The band is very wide and bunches up under other more secure top layers. I knew the waist would be an odd fit going in but I couldn't resist the pattern.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from They're fine I'm using these for a long distance hike and chose wool over capilene due to the rumored stink factor of synthetic. I wish I had gone with the capilene- they're lighter weight and softer. I find the wool too scratchy and it's hard for me to fall asleep when I'm wearing these because of that. That said, I recently slept and hiked a 20* overnight using these as my base layer and I was nice and warm, but never too warm. They were plenty long enough for me, also.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Remove the elastic waist Totally loved my merino bottoms last year.... (the lightweight wore out really quickly though)... I purchased a new pair, upgraded to midweight to avoid the same problem. This year's model has a new elastic waist (compared to the more Yoga Pant style waist of last years).... The main reason I went with your bottoms last year had to do with the great waist. So often base layers have terrible elastic waists... So sad to see the new design looks like the Yoga pant waist, but has a tight elastic inside. Please go back to the original design... really love the stripes too btw!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cold winters in the backcountry These pants are as versatile as I am - under a shell, they are great to hike in to access the backcountry powder. Back at the lodge, they look like a cute pair of leggings because of the stitching detail. Perfect for the transition from sweaty ski hikes to apres, by the fire.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great material, don't stay up on me I have had a pair of these for a year now. They are comfortable, warm and flattering. I just wish they had a drawstring at the waist, I find myself pulling them up frequently. I am almost always a patagonia medium and a small would probably be too small on my calves and thighs.
