After four days on the trail, two hailstorms and a hardscrabble pass, you’ll still be looking forward to the ultracomfortable, next-to-skin warmth of these bottoms. A heavyweight of versatility, our Merino Midweight is a wonderfully soft jersey knit suited to a wide variety of activities across a wide range of conditions. Merino wool is naturally breathable, regulates body temperature and stretches. It's also wonderfully soft and naturally resists odor. Ours is sourced from the grasslands of Patagonia. We slow-wash it for softness and shrink resistance, without the use of chlorine, then blend it with 18% Capilene® recycled polyester for durability and for dry times and moisture transfer superior to that of 100% merino. Features include a flat waistband with brushed inner elastic for next-to-skin softness, a gusseted crotch for mobility, and low-bulk merrow seams and offset inseams minimize chafing. Machine wash cold; machine dry at low temperatures.

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Women's Merino Mw Bottoms is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Merino wool is so comfortable This is the second pair of merino wool Mw bottoms I've bought from Patagonia. Wore the first ones so much they're pretty thin. The waist in this version is a little high but still great as legging or under light pants. Hope you can find ethically sourced merino wool and continue to make these and the shirts. Good for global warming because you can stay comfortable around the house at cooler temperatures and they're more breathable than the synthetics.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So warm on a rainy day I love the "long underwear" from Patagonia. It is warm, easy to put on in that it stays in place when you put jeans on over it. It washes up nicely. A very good value when compared to other brands I have tried.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome under layer I bought these in xs, Im 5'1, 108lbs, and wore them under ski pants (cross country and down hill) this year and loved them. They were warm but not bulky or itchy—very comfortable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favoite winter layer I've been wearing Patagonia Capilene forever and decided to give wool a try. SO glad I did. They are warmer AND breathable. With the slim fit they layer under everything including jeans.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love Love Love I wear them as both leggings and a base layer. Other reviewers have said they are a bit see through, my pair is a touch loose and when if you look at them from less than six inches away sometimes you can see through them a bit -- but I'm not really worried about somebody looking that closely.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My new favorite! I'm no stranger to wool base layers, however these bottoms take the cake! They're incredibly soft, not too thick, yet they seem to be very durable (I've had them about a month, but I may be living in them :)) Personally, I appreciate the flat and wide waist band. If you're in doubt between two sizes I would pick the larger of the two, just because I think the band could run a tad small. I'm 5'4", 111 lbs, usually a 00/24 and I bought an XS. The length is perfect and the waist is as all. If I had a few more pounds on me, or if I had a more generous derrière I'd need a small. So far I've worn these around the house a lot and under jeans at conferences where I knew I'd be freezing. Based on those experiences alone I have no doubt I'll be satisfied with their performance outdoors. Buy these and you won't regret it!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great base layer, not leggings. I purchased these with the hopes of having versatile leggings. These are a great base layer under pants or for around the house - but NOT as stand alone leggings. They are see through. Still, they are very comfortable and warm. I would purchase them again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Warm... but see through I purchased these in black. I thought I would be able to wear these under other layers on cold days or alone on more mild days. Unfortunately the fabric is somewhat see through so I don't recommend wearing them alone. I would not wear these as yoga pants. Warmth wise I'm happy with the midweight but I kind of wish I had purchased thicker ones.
