Learn More Close
A full 15 years after we introduced our R1® fabric, it remains a favorite the world over for good reason: it stretches, breathes, wicks and warms with ultimate efficiency. The full-zip iteration only enhances its range, whether worn as a midlayer or a lightweight jacket. The finely tuned high/low interior grid polyester fabric (Polartec® Power Grid™), recently redesigned to be even lighter and more breathable, is exclusive to Patagonia. With its technical fit and durable fabric, it squashes down to practically nothing in your pack. A soft, kissing-welt zipper garage at the chin gives next-to-skin comfort, the simple cuffs keep a low profile, two zippered handwarmer pockets sit above harness line, and offset shoulder seams steer clear of pack straps. Polygiene® permanent odor control enhances partner relations.
  • Exclusive to Patagonia, this Polartec® Power Grid™ fabric with Polygiene® permanent odor control is light and breathable with outstanding stretch and durability

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Women's R1 Full-Zip Jacket is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE this jacket After reading some of the negative sizing reviews, I felt compelled to share how much I love this. A highly functional piece in my wardrobe. I'm about 5' 7" 135# and do have long arms + legs. Size medium fits perfectly in both length (body/arms) and snugness. Bought it in 2016 for a summer vacation in MT and it is perfect as an outer layer on cool summer nights and as a mid/base layer for cold NH winter hiking/snowboarding. My other patagonia jackets (and there are many) vary btwn med and large.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing, size too large First, I absolutely love the R1 jacket! I have 3 myself. They "were" the perfect fit & the jacket still goes with everything. The new R1's are not the same. The new jacket is too large and the sleeves are too long. I had to return the jacket, it's a shame.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for the tall lanky type! I know a lot of reviewers have stated that they hate the fit of the new R1, but I could not be more thrilled about it. I am 5'9" and 135lbs. In other words I am tall and lanky person. Usually jackets and base layers are way too short in the torso so my midriff is exposed, and I have a heck of a time trying to find sleeves that are long enough to cover my wrists. This particular iteration of the R1 is perfect for me! I got the size small. It fits great around the chest and waist, and has a perfect length sleeves and torso. Praise Jesus As for the fabric, it insulates incredibly well with almost no bulk. It also breathes well during aerobic activity. It is now my go to jacket for hiking and running, and I wear it under a shell when I ride my motorcycle. My only complaint is that the full zip version doesn't pack into its own pocket. Every other version (Pullover, R2, and R3) has a chest pocket that the jacket packs into. I can still awkwardly shove it into one of the hand warmer pockets and it packs down small, but it's a bit awkward, and I was bummed when I realized this feature was lacking. Overall though, 5 stars. Really grateful to have this piece. If it's too long for you, take it to a tailor! Have mercy on the tall people!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I, too, hate the new fit! Add my voice to the chorus of people seriously unhappy with the redesign of this once-classic piece. I didn't really fully understand how bad the new design was until I picked up one of the old versions on eBay - what a difference! The old version was legitimately perfect. The new design is "meh" and I, like many, was bothered by the tight sleeves and the weird pocket seams that go straight across the bust. The new cut is unflattering and just "OK" to wear, compared to the awesomeness of the original. This new version is an ill-fitting garment that gets two stars only because the R1 fabric is good.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Dislike fit of new style R1 I recently lost my circa 2014 Patagonia R1 size M on a hiking trail. I thought the new style would measure up but as the other reviews mention the fit is off...the small is too tight in the arms, the medium is baggy and just a bit too long. The older style had an easier slightly shorter fit that layered perfectly. My only hope is that someone finds my old R1, but that is a long shot, so I will have to wait for a redesign

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this fleece I love this fleece-- I own two. It's slim-fitting, good for longer-torso'ed gals. Cozy and soft. Love the full zip. You can wear it around town or for more adrenaline-filled adventures.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Newer style fits large I've be a R1 fan for years and love my to death! I just purchased a new one and am not a fan of the fit anymore. It runs extremely long and large. I'm a XS in Patagonia and this fits like a small. I hope the design goes back to how it used to be.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 2015 model is my favorite jacket! I love this jacket! It washes and wears very well. It doesn't fade or pill like the better sweater I had. It is a very versatile all around sweater type jacket.
