bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Women's R1® Pullover is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Still warm, weird fit! Comparing the newer version over the older ones; the fabric is less forgiving with movement. It feels like the armholes are a bit smaller and constricting. When I move both arms forward, I feel it pulling across the back, yet I’m wearing my correct size. I miss the thumb holes to hold the sleeves down too. And yes, it pills more than the older versions. Overall, it’s still an awesome athletic fleece for active pursuits! It’s warm and wicks well. I’m 5’4,117# and the small fits “snugly”, not tight but quite fitted. I can wear a very thin Merino shirt under it, but then the armholes feel borderline too tight. Hope this helps.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cozy I bought this a few weeks ago. I wore it hiking over one weekend and the back got super pilly from rubbing against my backpack. Also the pocket is weirdly placed over the boobs. It's super warm though and I love the bright yellow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shockingly Warm I got this R1 when my sailing team bought team gear. I was a little skeptical at first as to its warmth (why would you cut the fleece part into little squares and leave patches of thin fabric?) but wow was I wrong! Wearing it was perfect for cold weather - I can't wait to wear it come fall/winter in the PNW! I wore it on my 6 week backpacking research trip to the Cordillera Blanca in Peru. I was anywhere from 3000 m to 5100 m, in valley bottoms and on glaciers. When the sun dropped the temperature turned freezing, and yet I was warm! In breeze or chill, I would wear this R1 and be warm; when the sun dropped, the first thing I put on was this, and if the temperature dropped even further, I would throw on a Nano Puff over it. It is a great, versatile layer, and looks good when you're wearing it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great style Very comfortable and great fit! I bought this at the store and didn't realize that it came in many other colors.. There was only the white one that was available in my size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Winter Backpacking I bought this on sale for the 2017 winter and have used it while winter backpacking and summiting mountains in zero/sub degree temps. If you're moving, it's very warm so I've only used it in sub freezing temps but the polartec wicks pretty well and drys fast so i haven't gotten cold due to my own sweat. Around camp it's great as a warm layer. If I were to buy this again I would get an extra small, it runs a bit big, I'm normally a small/4 in women's.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My new work staple! Perfect layering piece for spring, fall, and winter. I work with horses and I love that I can just brush the hay and hair off with my hand. I love the slim fit so that I can wear a vest over it, and the smooth finish on the outside means outer layers glide right over. Love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 3 Season I work outside in the elements all year long (in Idaho with 4 seasons) and absolutely love this shirt! I have a couple of smalls but since having a baby and gaining a few extra belly pounds, I now am more comfortable wearing the medium and have ordered another 5 (one for each day of the week, ha)! I also enjoy wearing them during my outside activities. I enjoy wearing them on cold and windy spring days, during the winter, and on brisk fall days.
