Made for the high-country escape artist, our Refugitive Jacket combines full waterproof/breathable protection with stretch and light weight for steep climbs and serious descents. The hybrid 3-layer GORE-TEX® construction uses a slightly more robust, stretchy fabric along the upper back, shoulders and the backsides of the arms for unimpaired mobility. The Optimal Visibility Hood adjusts via an embedded single-pull cord-lock system and fits over ski and climbing helmets alike, while 2-way watertight pit zips let you dump heat on lung-busting ascents. Pockets include two above-harness-line handwarmers with watertight zippers; interior and exterior zippered left-chest pockets; and a right-side interior, stretch catch-all for spare gloves or skins. The hem cinches with embedded cord locks, and an elasticized strap at the lower back connects to any Patagonia® Snow pants (and select Alpine pants) for deep powder days. With a concealed RECCO® reflector.
  • A hybrid design for the optimal balance of stretch and lightweight; durably waterproof and windproof 3-layer GORE-TEX® fabrics with GORE® C-KNIT™ backer technology are softer, lighter and more breathable than regular 3-layer GORE-TEX® fabrics
  • Specially engineered Optimal Visibility Hood adjusts with single-pull Cohaesive® embedded cord-lock system to fit equally well over all helmet types or a bare head
  • Two high handwarmer pockets with watertight zippers stay clear of a harness or pack waistbelt; welted exterior left-chest pocket, interior left-chest pocket and interior stretch catch-all pocket
  • Watertight 2-way pit zips for venting
  • Elasticized strap at low back connects to any Patagonia® Snow pants and select Alpine pants to prevent jacket from riding up
  • Cohaesive embedded cord-lock system has two contact points at the hem for intuitive one-handed operation either inside pocket or at hem
  • Concealed RECCO® reflector
  • Body: 3-layer, 3.1-oz 30-denier 100% nylon ripstop GORE-TEX® shell. Lower arms and upper back: 3-layer, 4-oz 40-denier 100% nylon stretch plain-weave GORE-TEX® shell. All with GORE® C-KNIT™ backer technology and a DWR (durable water repellent) finish

Water Resistant

(durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

The construction of 3-Layer GORE-TEX® Products is unique. A 3-layer GORE-TEX® membrane is sandwiched between a soft outer material and a knit polyester backing material that increases durability. These garments keep you comfortable and protected from the elements without adding extra bulk or weight.

The GORE-TEX® membrane has 9 billion pores per square inch, with each pore 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet. These tiny holes are too small for water and wind to pass through from the outside. But these same pores are large enough for moisture vapor to pass through, so your body's perspiration is able to escape and you won’t feel clammy or uncomfortable inside your jacket.

Women's Refugitive Jacket is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from lite weight! I bought this to replace style # 83241F-5. Please consider reproducing the arrangement of pockets found on the older style shell. For bushwhack and exploration this arrangement of pockets is ideal. The two inside pockets work well for carrying a map (in the non-zippered, Left side pocket), and an emergency head-lamp (in the zippered, Right side pocket). The two outside, high, chest pockets work well for: one, holding a compass to keep it from swinging around in the way and two, for keeping car/house keys. When in town; the two large, inside pockets work to hold a normal size wallet ( unfolded) and a check book. One pocket for each item. Please consider making this arrangement of pockets again! I miss this so much! There is no shell on the market today to replace this arrangement of pockets. My only other option is to wear a hunting vest, but that is a bit much when I go to the grocery store. ( it runs small in the sleeve width, but long in the overall length).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect versatile shell jacket. I bought this shell for many different backcountry adventures. It fits true to size, and hood fits over a helmet! Skiing in the rain or sleet is required in my line of work, this shell kept me dry in all conditions. The pit zips help to regulate body temp when climbing/hiking or if the temp goes up. The zippers are waterproof and the cuffs have a Velcro adjustable strap to fit over many types of gloves/mittens. My favorite feature is the chest pocket for a phone or business cards or note book which is easily accessible with a pack belt on.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this jacket, just a small problem I bought this jacket for back country skiing and it is wonderful! It's now my main rain jacket. Super breathable! One of the zippers on a pocket broke when it was stuffed in my pack. :( Patagonia replaced it of course!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Breathable and dry We have been testing rain gear for a trek in Patagonia. The rain coat so far has been wonderfully light, breathable, and dry on our many hikes about in cool, drizzly conditions. We are awaiting a nor'easter for the final test!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Yet I bought this jacket so that I can use it for skiing. I plan to wear a puffy jacket underneath with many layers for those cold East Coast days. I am 5'8" tall and I am glad I got a size large. If I got a medium I don't think I would be able to fit layers and a puff underneath.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Patagonia in Patagonia! I bought this jacket right before my backpack trip in Patagonia. It was great when carrying a backpack and a front pack climbing up a mountain and sweating in the rain and wind. I never got wet from the outside and my dry fit shirt would dry out without the jacket becoming humid and wet. The best jacket I have ever owned and it kept me Warm and dry in a very harsh climate!
