Media Funding Guidelines
Through our own environmental campaigns, we have witnessed the power of film to transform audiences into activists. To support grassroots groups that also use film as a form of activism, we created a Media Grants Program. This program specifically funds environmental nonprofits that use media, mostly film, as a tool tightly linked to direct-action campaigns. To evaluate grant proposals, we have a grants council made up of employees with strong backgrounds in film and other media.
We look for groups using media as a strategic tool to advance a campaign that is in line with our general grants program. The project must outline how using media is the most appropriate avenue as a call to action for a targeted audience and how it fits into the overall strategy of the campaign efforts.
Through our Media Grants Program, we fund work that:
- is tied to an environmental campaign
- goes beyond education and awareness building of the general public
- is designed with a call to action for a targeted audience
- is a tool to accomplish goals within a specific environmental campaign strategy
The funding range for a Media Grant is typically between $15,000 and $30,000, depending on the specific needs of the project.
We accept one proposal per group per our fiscal year (May 1–April 30). There are two annual deadlines for the Media Grants Program:
April 30 All applications received in April will receive a response by the end of August.
August 31 All applications received in August will receive a response by the end of January.
To begin the application process, click “Apply Now” to take the eligibility quiz and find out if your work fits within our guidelines. If your work is eligible, you will then be directed to the grant application form. Thank you for your interest in Patagonia’s Media Grants Program.
