Passionate about: Using my job to protect the planet for my three little girls.
Outside interests: Surfing, cycling, running, backpacking.
Path to Patagonia: I worked for Deloitte, where I advised companies on investment and corporate finance-related issues. I was up for partner, but ultimately decided I wanted my job to have more meaning. I landed on Patagonia given the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility and a transparent supply chain.
Favorite Patagonia product: Huevo Ranchero surfboard [an FCD design].
Why Patagonia? We live by our mission statement: Build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis.
Greatest surprise upon landing here: It was refreshing to learn that Patagonia’s Let My People Go Surfing culture was as advertised.
How does our culture fit into your life? I often surf, ride or run during my lunch break. Also, I get to have my little girls on-site at GPCDC [Patagonia’s childcare center].
Has Patagonia changed you in any way? It has been amazing to see the sense of community that can exist at work. At my former job I consulted for hundreds of companies, and I’ve never experienced a corporate culture like Patagonia’s.
Do you have a child in Patagonia’s Great Pacific Child Development Center? Yes. My three girls are all on-site at GPCDC. They love the program and having them close by is priceless to me.
What is your favorite life memory? Climbing Half Dome in Yosemite with my wife on our 10-year anniversary.
What do you consider your biggest accomplishment while working here? Shepherding the venture fund [$20 Million & Change] through its first 10 investments.
What legacy would you like to leave? To demonstrate that you can work hard and with purpose without sacrificing your family or your passions outside of work.
What has been your biggest adventure? Going on 10+ backpacking trips with my little girls, who are all under age six.
What is the favorite part about your workday? Snaking a wave from Greg Curtis (a.k.a. Dwight Schrute), Patagonia’s Assistant to the General Counsel.
