Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Water Resistant

DWR (durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Kids' Bonsai Pack 14L is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice backpack, but very small I ordered this backpack online, and it seemed bigger in the pictures, but unfortunately, it was too small. There is a laptop sleeve inside the backpack, but other than that there are no other pockets or sections. The handle is also quite small even for a small child. Because it was too small for what I needed it for, I had to return it; it was a cute pattern though. I would only suggest this for young kids.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great pack! Great size for little ones. Lots of space. The buckle could be difficult for some children to use, a zippered pack might be a better alternative.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not what I expected The pack looks great and is definitely solidly made, but I will be returning it based on two significant differences between the pack I received and what's listed on the website: 1. I ordered the navy with paintbrush red color scheme. The 'paintbrush red' could not be a more vibrant orange. It is not red in the slightest. Not even a red/orange or burnt orange tint. It's orange. Like San Francisco Giants orange. 2. The dimensions are off. I completely understand this is a children's pack, so I'm not complaining about it's make, but since I like to commute on bike often and have pretty narrow shoulders, I like smaller packs to not weigh me down too much. However, the dimensions listed are 17x9.5x7 according to the linked sizing chart. The pack I received is 14x9x5 (15h max). In other words, the only dimension close is it's width. 2-3 inches is pretty significant of a dimensions error, if you ask me. I love Patagonia, and will still order their products, but thought I'd leave these thoughts for anyone else considering this particular backpack. Side note: my 13" Macbook Air fits wall-to-wall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome This is a very nice backpack. I am 5'2" and an adult and so go to commute a lot and this backpack fits my frame nicely. It is the perfect pack for anything. I can fit a couple notebooks and a laptop along with a water bottle and everything else!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pack for the little explorer Bought this pack for my little guy a few weeks ago and he can't stop using it. There is plenty of room to pack his favorite gear when we go on walks or when he wants to bring along his favorite book for show and share at school. It's tough too and washes up easily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Packed and ready to roll "Bonsai - Japanese art form using trees grown in containers often used in English as an umbrella term for all miniature trees in containers or pots" (wikipedia). While the definition of Bonsai starts off well as it highlights the idea of a "little trees" it quickly loses accuracy in regards to the Patagonia Bonsai pack. Although the bonsai tree is "contained" in a pot, there is nothing that can contain the bonsai backpack and it's bearer. My older school aged children (6 and 8 - yes we also have non-school aged children as well - and yes our house is NEVER quiet) LOVE their packs. Homework folders, lunch pails, and 24 oz water bottles are just the necessities that easily fit into the pack. In addition to the required daily load I am always surprised by the seemingly plethora of little treasure that my kids manage to stuff into these packs. Much to the dismay of our children's teacher, endless amounts of toys and other treasures seem to find their way into my children's pack. The best part is that these pack joined our family at the start of our children's respective school career and a couple of years later they hardly show any signs of wear - minus a few little "intentional" bedazzlements.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bag, minor grievance I'm a petite female (5'4, 110lbs) and this bag fits perfectly on my frame. I was a longtime user (and lover) of the (now discontinued) Pocketwire bag and was looking for something around 14L for everyday use and commuting (I always pack a 12oz water bottle, a notebook, my kindle, multiple food containers [gotta eat!], a scarf and sometimes a small computer, and everything fits in perfectly). I love this bag and have found it to be very durable and waterproof (it's very well made). My only small grievance is that the handle is ridiculously small, even for a child. Sending some wishes that Patagonia will recognize small bags are for adults too! Overall, I highly recommend this bag and am a devout Patagonia fan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Pre-School We snagged this pack for my son who moved up to the 3 year class. At this age they carry a few changes of clothes, a few activities and a blanket for nap time. This backpack holds it all perfectly, we even sewed on a couple of patches for him. Most importantly, we know that this one won't get destroyed like his last one.
