The original pareos were made of sheets of lightweight cotton that were shipped to the South Seas. Coveted as trade items and often adorned with bold floral motifs, they became an everyday garment in the sunny and spirited Polynesian isles. Light enough for the hottest weather but secure enough for speedy scooter rides to the market, our contemporary Pataloha® Pareo can be worn for either beach or town; made from airy, 2.2-oz 100% organic cotton, it’s easily tied as a skirt, dress or sarong in countless variations and is offered in a range of lively Pataloha prints.

Organic Cotton

In 1996, with an increased awareness of the dangers of pesticide use and synthetic fertilizers in growing conventional cotton, we began the exclusive use of organically grown cotton in all of our cotton products.

The quality of organic cotton is equal to or better than conventionally grown cotton, yet organically grown methods support biodiversity and healthy ecosystems, improve the quality of soil and often use less water. Growing organically takes more time, requires more knowledge and skill, and, for now, costs more. But it’s worth it.

To ensure we are buying cotton that is organic as defined by the USDA’s National Organic Program, we require numerous certificates issued by an accredited third-party certification body for every step of the supply chain, from farm to factories.

Women's Classic Pataloha® Pareo is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good, but small I bought this a while ago and fell in love with how it looked when I first ordered it. I love Patagonia but this just ran too small. I am 5'4" 145 pounds. I know I'm not that thin but I was barley able to wrap this twice around my waist. I would love if this was just slightly bigger so I could wear it the way I initially wanted to wear it as a skirt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet! I love paréos for tropical trips and beach time. They can serve as great cover-ups, changing rooms, and beach mats. This one is lovely fabric and generous in dimensions, so that wearing it as a dress is no stretch at all. Thanks, Patagonia!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the pattern Love the purple and orange pattern, but I haven't quite figured out how to wear it. Thinking it would be nice as a shawl, but I haven't figured out how to tie it such that the knot isn't super bulky. Maybe some diagrams included with it would help?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I wrap this how? I look like I'm wearing a mumu.. I wish there were us directions with this on how to wrap it. I do love the color and pattern though. It's a one size fit all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Fabric I bought this with several uses in mind; swimsuit cover up & beach blanket. This Pareo worked perfectly. The fabric is simply beautiful and very light. It replaces a fifteen year old Patagonia pareo that is a bit heavier, slightly smaller and still looks great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cute, Easy, Comfortable I bought this because I needed a long/looser skirt to wear to church while in small villages in Kenya. Great purchase - love it! Travels well, wears well, and the versatility is nice. The only thing I *will* say is that I'm on the slender side and it just barely wraps around twice so that I can tie it if I'm wearing it as a long skirt. If I were any bigger, I wouldn't be able to wear it the same way and tie it. For reference, I'm 5'8, 140 lbs, and wear a 6/28 in pants.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good quality fabric I live in the island and wear this as a swimwear cover-up, as skirt for luaus, a pareo for hula.
