The icy temperatures at Jay Peak might send your motivation plummeting. But you can keep your inner fire stoked in the soft warmth and protection of the Primo Down. It’s our warmest and most sheltering insulated hard-shell jacket for riding in cold, ugly conditions. This season’s updated, articulated silhouette combines a durable, 2-layer waterproof/breathable and windproof GORE-TEX® fabric with an insulating layer of warm Traceable Down (goose down traced from parent farm to apparel factory to help ensure the birds that supply it are not force-fed or live-plucked) to keep your psych high as the temperature drops low. A DWR (durable water repellent) finish casts off water and saturated snow, and an internal nylon lining manages moisture and glides smoothly over underlayers. The 2-way-adjustable, helmet-compatible hood has a laminated visor for optimal visibility; the Cohaesive® cord-lock system embeds cord locks in hood and hem for quick and easy adjustment. Slim Zip installation with watertight, coated zippers on the pockets and pit zips reduce bulk and weight while Vislon® zippers on the center-front and chest pockets are burly tough and easy to use. Other features include ventilating pit zips; a removable, fully adjustable, low-profile powder skirt; a goose down–filled draft collar for additional warmth and protection; and an embedded RECCO® avalanche rescue reflector. There are six zippered pockets: two handwarmers, one chest (includes a secure media pocket with cable routing), one on the forearm, and one interior stash, plus one interior drop-in for gloves or goggles.
  • Tough and lightweight 2-layer polyester ripstop GORE-TEX® fabric for durably waterproof/breathable and windproof protection; insulation: 800-fill-power Traceable Down (goose traced from parent farm to apparel factory to help ensure the birds that supply it are not force-fed or live-plucked) is warm and highly compressible
  • Helmet-compatible, 2-way-adjustable fixed hood with laminated visor for optimal visibility in bad conditions; Cohaesive® embedded cord-lock system in hood and hem offers quick and easy adjustment; goose down–filled draft collar at back of neck for extra warmth

The construction of 2-Layer GORE-TEX® Products is unique. A GORE-TEX® membrane is bonded to an outer material, then combined with a free-flowing lining. The benefit: a soft, lightweight garment that keeps you dry and lets you move freely.

The GORE-TEX® membrane has 9 billion pores per square inch, with each pore 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet. These tiny holes are too small for water and wind to pass through from the outside. But these same pores are large enough for moisture vapor to pass through, so your body's perspiration is able to escape and you won’t feel clammy or uncomfortable inside your jacket.

Traceable Down Insulation

All Patagonia virgin down is certified to the Advanced Global Traceable Down standard by NSF International. The Advanced certification level means our down suppliers conducted audits all the way back to the parent farms to ensure there was no live-plucking and that broader humane animal welfare standards were faithfully observed throughout the supply chain. Women's Primo Down Jacket is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Jacket - Lightweight and keeps me dry I purchased this jacket while it was on sale and the only available size was M. Since my nano puff vest was a M and it fit perfectly (5'4, 145 lbs), I figured this would be fine. However, it definitely fits much bigger than the nano puff vest, but since I wanted the sale price, I couldn't be too picky and just kept it. I've gone snowboarding a few times with this jacket and on cold/snowy Denver days, I have worn this jacket to work. It's warm without being heavy and being that it fits large, I can add as much layer as I want. Even with the coldest days (under 20 F), I just needed to wear a regular long sleeve, paired with my nano puff vest and it's enough to keep me warm. I also never feel overheated while snowboarding all day. It's a great jacket for the sale price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warmest cost ever! I ski a great deal and get cold easily so I decided to buy this coat because it was marketed as being very warm and had 800 down fill. When I received it I was a little skeptical because it was so thin and the XS was fairly loose on my small frame (105lbs, 5'1"). I tried it out on a very cold and windy day on the ski slopes (10F with 30 MPH winds). I was amazed that it kept me warm! I didn't have to put warmers in my jacket like I usually do. I pulled the hood over my ski helmet on the lifts where it was very windy and it worked very well. The looseness of the coat allowed me to put my usual 3 under layers in without feeling too snug. It's by far the warmest jacket I own but I could also use less layers on warmer days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Happy with this jacket Today was my first day wearing this jacket in an urban setting. Rained all day and was cold and the Primo kept me dry and warm all day. Super comfortable and light weight with many great pockets. I thought I would buy a Medium (I am 5'7'' and 134 lbs) but it was too roomy so I went with the small and glad I did as it fits better. I am looking forward to skiing with this jacket very soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OMG Fabulous I LOVE LOVE LOVE this coat. It is so warm. I've been wearing it through Montana fall and early winter. It's easy to layer under it and so far, for downhill skiing, just my capilene base layer and fleece is all I am wearing. Didn't know how much I would love a hood that goes over my helmet until it was a cold windy day on the lift. Once I put it up, I skied with it and can't believe how much I enjoyed the extra warmth it allows. I normally wear a Small but got the Medium so I would have plenty of room for layers if needed. The longer sleeve lenghth surprised me as I have long arms!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wanted to Love it ..... BUT I love this jacket but the arms / sleeve length is at least 1-2 inches shorter than the other Patagonia Jackets I tried all in the same size (Medium) I am 5'10 and do not have super crazy long arms and Medium is my normal size in Patagonia so I am very disappointed that the sleeves are so short on this jacket you would think that sleeves on a winter jacket would be slightly longer to accommodate for cold weather and needing to make sure that more is covered. If I went up to a LG from a MD then I would be swimming in the jacket so that's not an option either. Sad

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazingly light and super warm. I bought this a few months ago and couldn't wait for the cold weather to arrive so that I could wear it out. I bought it to wear as a winter jacket and also for skiing. I spent weeks deciding because it's such an expensive jacket...but I wanted ONE coat that was warm and waterproof as I live in northern Canada where it's fairly cold, wet, and snowy 9 months of the year. It's not insulated with tons of down or anything as it's a ski jacket, but I can definitely get away with going out into -20C weather with it as long as I've layered thoughtfully underneath. It fits fairly big (I'm guessing to allow layering) so I bought an XS. I'm about 135lbs and roughly 5'5. I have lots of room for extra layers underneath and it comes past my butt which is nice. It has tons of interior pockets which is awesome, and I love the small waterproof pocket on the sleeve because I can slip my phone, ID, keys, and credit card in there and access them easily without pulling my pack and gloves off. I've taken this coat out hiking a quite a few times and although it's fairly breathable, it was a bit too warm even for winter hiking. I will say that the goretex shell stood up against the brush really well. I love that the Primo Down is insulated with ethically sourced down and I love Patagonia's warranty! Can't wait to hit the slopes with this awesome jacket.
