Fantastic for running

Recently purchased the Houdini Air and it has already become my favorite jacket for running and hiking. Incredibly lightweight and blocks the wind but breathes enough so that I don't overheat while doing high output activities. This one is going to be a staple in my hiking pack.

Wonderfully versatile jacket!

Purchased this to pack inside my briefcase in case of inclement weather. Have used it on airplanes, hiking and golf so far. Love that it is so portable, lightweight and breathable.

Feedback on Fit

My beloved Houdini finally ran off somewhere without me and I decided to try out the Air as a replacement. I love the fabric, the new shoulders, and the minimal concept. Sadly for me I ran into fit issues and had to return. The L is just too short in the arms and a touch tight in the shoulders. The XL fits better in arms and shoulders but is much t... Lightweight rainwear for summer days.

When the temperature is 70 and above and we need a waterproof layer this is ideal. My only wish is that it had pockets.

Love it! More Colors Please!

Have 2 of these and wear them half the year and pretty much always have one in the car. Perfect lightweight jacket to keep wind and mist out and some warmth in. Truly love these and will buy more colors as soon as they are released.

Good fit, functional

Does the job walking through Manhattan in the morning, it was 45 F and felt comfortable while walking. My only gripe is that the stow away pocket has opened up at the seam. I must have stowed the jacket away less than 10 times. (Purchased at backcountry)

Super versatile active layer!

I have 2 of this jacket. One in medium and one in XL. Medium has been nice for casual use. The XL one I got so I could put it on, on top of my trail running / hiking vest, without having to take the vest off. Similar in idea to the Storm Racer Jacket... sure it weighs a bit more, but it has been working excellent for me, and I can avoid cold wet ... Read Morebag shock on your back syndrome if I never need to take the bag off. This layers breathability is excellent for trail running. Several times I find myself putting in on when I get up to a ridgeline, but then not needing to take it off for quite a while due to it venting excess heat and moisture so well. I modified the XL a bit by adding some "Kam Snaps" in a few places as well as some small shock cord and plastic hooks such that I can prevent the zipper from coming undone, still keep the neck part relatively closed while the zipper is mostly open to vent, etc... Its worked out pretty well. The waist cinch broke when the cord pulled out where it was sewn down to anchor it... but I'm no stranger to a sewing machine, so it was a super quick and easy fix. Love this thing.

Great windbreaker - light and works well

Despite being May, we’re still getting chilly days in upstate NY. I purchased these for my wife and myself for walks in the park, short hikes, etc. and they have been wonderful - so light can barely tell you’re wearing it and breathable (on colder days I’ve been wearing a fleece under it). Solid Staple

Houdini Air is a solid staple in any trail runner's quiver. This is the wind shell you need. While it's not waterproof, you'd be fine in a little mist or drizzle with it. Slim Fit

Overall I really love the jacket and it's going to work for the purpose I intended it for (trail running). The fit is as described so no complaints there. Perfect cut, super light and very packable

I've had the air houdini for just over a month now and have used it 10+ times for MTB, fishing, hiking and casual use. Great Lightweight Layer

Ive owned an original Houdini for about 4 years but wanted something light and more breathable for hiking. Thus far the Houdini Air has been perfect. Amazing light and packable jacket!

What can I say about this jacket that hasn't been said? It's a great piece. This is a super light jacket that has all kinds of uses. Its a decent running layer... The list goes on. If you're comparing this with the reg Houdini, this is far superior/more versatile for most uses. It's more comfortable and breathable. The reg Houdini would be more functional in a true rain shower, but in that case, I'd rather have a real rain shell vs either Houdini. Buy the Houdini Air! I wish there were more color options. And the fit is not perfect. (Like most Patagonia stuff for me...) I'm 6'0, 174 and fit, and I should be wearing a M, but the back shoulders and arms are too tight in M. When I raise my arms, I feel like I will Hulk-rip this jacket in M. Luckily this jacket is trim enough that I can get away with wearing L, albeit a little baggy. (I do not mind that there are no hand pockets... It works like a shirt in that regard.) Highly recommend!

Light, compact, breathable, water-resistant

For several years, I've been lugging around either a wind shirt and/or rain jacket in my backpack for unexpected weather changes while hiking and backpacking in Idaho's mountains and foothills (it's the Eagle Scout in me). Last fall, my friend whipped out an older-model Houdini after we got to the windy summit of a local mountaintop. I broke out the rain jacket and despite the pit zips, I was sweating and uncomfortable. It was time to pull the trigger and the Houdini Air was worth waiting for. Within 24 hours of getting my jacket in the mail, I was up in the mountains when the weather turned cool and misty. While I was the envy of my backpacking friends that night, I was perfectly comfortable. The hood was especially handy in keeping my head warm. Great fit, light, compact, water-resistant, and breathable. I can't wait to push it to its limits for some fall camping, backpacking, bike rides, and sailing. It goes with me everywhere.

Great function, great fit

I used this jacket on a recent hiking trip as part of my layering strategy. I was able to layer-up for temps down to the low-forties and then add this on top when the wind was up. It's so light and low bulk, it disappeared in my pack when not needed. It was a perfect solution.

awesome for golf

i've never owned a Houdini, but needed something that packed small and blocked the wind. i couldn't decide between the regular Houdini or this one. when i got it, i tried it on and was flummoxed thinking that it was useless as i felt i bit chilled in a brisk wind (it's winter down here in south america) being that i get cold easily. ... Summer hiking essential.

I picked up the standard Houdini a few summers back, in Alaska and for the most part really liked it. Either that or offer a non-hooded, jacket version... that would be perfect.

A Houdini That Breathes!

This is my third Houdini jacket. The earlier versions (pullover, jacket) were super light wind breakers with decent rain resistance but did not breathe well. A superior version of the Houdini

Awesome windbreaker! Blocks wind just as well as the regular Houdini, but it's much more comfortable and breathable and it moves with you unnoticeably. Not a big deal, but sizing is my most consistent complaint with Patagonia and more frequently than not requires compromise in comfort and fit.

March 25, 2022

I would include this with their R1 hoody and the M10 jacket as just about exactly perfect. My New Favourite from Patagonia!

I typically run warm/hot so I was looking for something for early Spring and Fall, maybe even Summer evenings. For b... Read Morereezy temps around 0 degrees Celcius I can wear this with a light sweater under and be perfectly fine, it just cuts the wind/cold perfectly for me. For instance, my hands and ears will be cold but not my core. If I'm moving at moderate exertion, I can ditch the sweater and go with a long sleeve base layer. If it's too warm, I just unzip it to allow it to vent, which it does pretty well on its own, since it's more breathable than the regular Houdini. I was worried about not having hand-warmer pockets, but I actually don't mind it at all - I just use my pant pockets if I really need to warm my hands. Also keeps me from bringing anything unnecessary. The jacket isn't fitted which allows for layering and a single cinch at the waist gets it dialed in - which I'd prefer. Size reference for me: L in the following - Down Sweater (jacket and hoody), Torrentshell jacket, and Jackson Glacier Parka. I can easily layer this over my down sweaters. Price tag is a bit steep, but it's Patagonia quality/ethos and I am very happy with this purchase! Location: Calgary, AB

Almost Perfect

I live in Maine and this is a fantastic piece for our shoulder seasons with possible application as a mid layer in winter (I havent tested that yet). For example, I wore it on a trail run today with temps at 44 degrees, 10-15mph wind and a mix of sun and spitting mist/rain. Beautiful spring day. I wore a capilene lightweight tee as a base layer and... Read More brought an R1 Air because I thought it might feel cold. When I got to the trail I ditched the R1 because the sun was shining at that moment and it felt warmer than expected. Im glad I did. The jacket is so breathable that even through the hard run there was no moisture build up or any clammy feeling. Actually it feels great next to skin. It also handled the wind gusts and spitting rain well, Id say it blocks 90% of the wind and so it lets through just enough air to keep your body temp well regulated. Long story short, the fabric performs very well during aerobic activity. A few minor flaws keep this from getting 5 stars, though it is still a great addition to the kit. First and really not a big deal but it has the sewn on standard Patagonia label on the left breast. Its totally unnecessary. Why add superfluous fabric and punch thread into the face of the jacket? Older Houdini jackets had a printed on reflective lettering that seems much more appropriate to this jacket. Second is the hood flaps around in the back. I tuck it into the jacket but it is annoying. I would LOVE a pullover version of this jacket, it would be even lighter without the full zip and more easily layered. Im excited to use this as a multifunctional piece in winter; as a top layer when skinning or on Nordic trails and then pulling a insulated piece over for the ride down/stops or if it gets really cold. Its so breathable, I can see it performing well in those situations. A pullover would fit this use case much better as well. For size reference Im a long torsoed 6 & 185. I bought an XL for length and coverage while bike commuting. Its true to size which means the XL is slightly baggy on me as expected but nothing to really take away from an overall good long fit. If I didnt need something a little long I imagine the L would fit perfectly.

This is THE BEST running jacket

I mean if you want a running jacket that just works, this is it. Just got it and did a run in 30°f and it was amazing. The hood has one direction of adjustability and it cinches down around your ears over a hat (or without one) keeping them warm. The only two problems - it doesnt keep your nose and mouth covered when zipped up (I got the balacl... Perfect pocket layer.

I bought a houdini years ago when they first came out, and it was my go-to belay jacket or extra layers for alpine hikes. This latest iteration is meant to be a shell for high-output activities (winter training runs in NYC) and to stash in bag for tropical fly fishing trips. Love this piece.

Breathable protection without the weight!

This piece is my go to softshell for all things aerobic; hiking, running, mountain biking, climbing, and backcountry skiing. If you are looking for an ultralight no nonsense shell that breaths, blocks the wind, sheds the elements, and packs away to nothing, look no further!

Exact what I wanted

Its slim but exactly what I wanted. Doesnt get clammy inside after run.

Base layer. Outer layer. Where it almost everyday. Need a few more colors!

I use this jacket for running and any amount of moisture on your skin results in the fabric sticking to you and creating a sweaty mess. I can often pour sweat out of the arms partway through a run.

Hi Kevin, we're very sorry to hear about your experiences with the Men's Houdini® Air Jacket. The Houdini Air is not fully windproof and allows more wind to blow through and more heat/sweat to escape. Layering with a lightweight Capilene may help you with the condensation problem. A lightweight layer like the Men's Long-Sleeved Capilene® Cool Lightweight Shirt may help to wick away the excess moisture that's accumulating inside of your jacket, If you feel like the Houdini® Air Jacket isn't standing up to your expectations, please feel free to begin a warranty return under our Ironclad Guarantee,

Handy Houdini Is Light But Effective

I think the sizing is about right. I bought the extra large online because of the slim fit though I think large would also work for me. I'm 6'4" and about 215 pounds. In general I like the consideration that Patagonia puts into their products, such as quality and packability. I've definitely moved away from other brands as a res... Read Moreult. I bought the Houdini after climbing Chief Mountain in Colorado only to experience 40+ MPH winds at the summit. I wanted something light to bring on hikes when the days are warm, but I may be exposed to winds and cooler temps at times. The Houdini has come in handy. I've worn it a lot this summer. Sometimes blocking the wind and containing some heat is all you need to be more comfortable, and this jacket does both. The Houdini has been a great addition to my closet.

Do all jacket

I like this better than Houdini. It breaths so much better. The cuffs are great as well. Keeps the early morning chill off.

Missing Link

As a Mountain Guide I have searched for years to find a piece that bridges the gap between a soft shell and a full on hard shell. I believe that search is over. The Houdini Air Jacket provides amazing protection from the elements, breathes adequately while active (breaking trail, climbing, running), and yet is small and light enough that I don&#x27... If needed I add a Nano-Air Vest, Jacket, or Hoody (temp dependent) for additional warmth, then a Pluma Jacket when I want full protection from the worst that Mother Nature can throw at me. I highly recommend this piece.

Super lightweight jacket

Just took this on a kiteboarding trip where it was very windy and wet. This jacket saved me when I wasn’t on the water. Also bought one for my wife and she loves it too!

This jacket is truly like wearing air. Perfect for layering for individuals with an active lifestyle. Like my other medium Patagonia outerwear it fits slightly snug, just as I like!

Great jacket for high output

I've been a fan of the Houdini line of products for some time and I think this is a great addition to the family. The Houdini Air has most of the same benefits of the traditional Houdini while being more breathable (obviously). The breathability for me is the key difference because we do a lot of high output activities like cycling and climbin... Read Moreg which would cause me to quickly overheat in the traditional Houdini. The fit of the Houdini Air is also slightly larger (which I think is more true to size) and has a longer hem which is great to provide coverage on a bike or to stay put under a harness. While I'd still grab the traditional Houdini on a colder ride, the Houdini Air has become my go-to for almost all aerobic pursuits.

Perfect jacket for wind and light rain protection

This jacket is great. Takes up almost no space in your pack and still provides good wind and some rain protection. It would be even better if it had one pocket on the inside of the jacket for a few small items.

Perfect light weight

Amazing how much performance this ultralight windbreaker provides. Windy showers? No problem. Cool foggy morning? Perfect solution. And it packs up into virtually nothing. Well done Patagonia.

houdini air

Have only had for about 3 weeks. Since then a few light rains, not overly waterproof, but not sure that is really its intent. In all, nice jacket, super light, and breathable. Will be interested to see how it holds up over time. I am 6' 165lbs...bought a large as I didnt want it too snug...perfect size.

Compact, light and breathable

I’ve only had occasion to run trail with this jacket on once so far. It fitted great, was super light and small when stowed in my pack. The run started cold and windy and my Houdini Air kept me comfortable.

I only have worn it

I only have worn it a few times and have been happy with it. I wish you would make things with a more generous cut. Perfect addition to my closet

Awesome jacket! Just ran Lake Martin 100 miler this weekend and this jacket was perfect. I've run in the Houdini for years, but this jacket hits the sweet spot for breathability. I needed something that could take the chill off cold morning runs and provide wind protection on the ridges, but also avoid the dreaded problems of condensation. The Houdini Air is the answer. Nice running jacket

Comparing to the classic Houdini, this jacket feels better while running in a strong wind and light rain. Nice but why

Got this as a gift from my parent. In my opinion, this Houdini Air jacket doesn't fit for the purpose of running. For long distance running, this jacket is way to hot, hitting up my body like crazy. I also have the Houdini jacket which I think it is a better choice. While, just using it for walking the dogs, the Houdini Air doesn't offer...
