I have worn the pants for less than a year with rainy weather for commuting. Already first rides the pants did not fully protect from rain. Good pants with some minor flaws
I´ve had those for about 15 months now and I just had sent them in for a repair. - knees had holes from crashing, they fixed that with patches - material at the butt was getting thin, they sewed a huge reinforcement patch over it and made it watertight with seam tape - the waist adjustment keeps getting loose, they tried to fix but didn´t succe... Read Mored, I put a drawstring stopper on myself The pants sometimes get hung up on my shoes BOA-adjuster. The pockets are really good. I´d love to see cooling openings/like "pit zips" somewhere. Have only used them a couple times in modest cold wet weather and they kept me dry and the wind off. I'm 155lb 5-9 guy and the M is prefect. The size chart described the M for my size as "comfortable" but honestly you wouldn't want them any tighter for riding. The only thing I don't like about them is they stick to my skin,... Dirt Roamer Storm Pant - Almost Perfect.
I had been super excited to try out Patagonia's Dirt Roamer Storm Pants from the moment they hit my shop floor. I waited patiently for the rainy season to come by, and am so stoked with my purchase. They keep all the moisture and mud out, while still offering excellent breathability. The integrated belt works well and keeps the pants in place,... Read More whether winching up to the top or bombing back down. I want to applaud Patagonia for the higher cut of the waist band in the rear, which, when paired with the Dirt Roamer jacket, provides excellent coverage on your lower back, which is something other pants I've used in the past have struggled with. I used these pants with Fox's Launch Pro D3O Knee Pads, which aren't particularly slim, yet they fit very well under the DR Pants. I did tend to notice the pant bunching up over the top of the knee where the pad starts to extend out, however I imagine with a slimmer knee pad this would be less of an issue. The zippered bottoms of the legs are something I appreciated as well, making it possible to remove or put on my pads without taking the pants off was something I never expected to want, but have come to love. Patagonia also did an excellent job placing the pockets for these pants in places that hold your items secure and close to your body without being uncomfortable. I have one criticism of the pant, and that's its lack of flexibility, particularly compared to the Dirt Roamer jacket. The only other thing I can't speak to is the longevity of these pants. I've only used them for the last month or so. I have had issues in the past with H2NO items from Patagonia (typically the internal lining shedding). If anything like that occurs, I will post an updated review. Overall, Patagonia's Dirt Roamer Storm Pants are an excellent option for any mountain biker looking to add a pair of rain pants to their wardrobe. With fantastic protection from the elements, a highly thought out fit, conscious features that cater towards mountain biking, they should be at the top of anyone's list in terms of rain pants.
Ended up going large
I'm usually a medium all around with other patagonia gear however these were uncomfortably tight. This is my second winter season commuting with these and they have been excellent until recently, when it developed a water leak out of the blue, and my right thigh would soak through immediately in the rain. This issue was present when the garment was clean with DWR intact. And saying that I am meticulous with caring for my technical gear would be... Read More an understatement. There has been no abrasion or damage to the affected area, and I confirmed no obvious signs of wear after a thorough inspection. Two store associates assured me these are not waterproof without fresh DWR, which in my mind means they should be advertised as water resistant, not waterproof. The online associate and another store associate I dealt with on my second visit to the store agreed that what I was experiencing seemed abnormal, with the garment still beading yet leaking only in one specific spot that does not see the most water and grime. I am on my second pair now and so far so good! Hopefully that was an isolated incident as these pants are otherwise perfect. Except maybe they can be narrower towards the bottom since they are designed for cycling.
Nice materials, weird fit
The inseam is way too long, I have to cuff the bottoms and the above the knee is really baggy. I don't like the fit. Great commuter cycling pants
I wear these several times a week in the winter while commuting on my bike. They are great pants! I am a little on the shorter side (5'8") with typically a 32 x 30 measurement. These are my go-to pants when I ride in the rain or during spring and end of season when the trails are muddy. They keep me dry during my rides. The perfect expedition canoe pant
I bought these not for mountain biking, but for another pursuit that requires a hardworking rain pant oriented largely to a bent-leg position: expedition canoeing. The "swish" noise factor is minimal, and I felt bone dry even when getting soaked by buckets of class 3 whitewater in the bow. Paired with cap 3 midweight bottoms. 6'0" and 210, large fit me perfectly with enough room to tuck in layers. I will be immediately buying another pair in case they ever get dropped from the line. Weird Sizing on a nice pant
Sizing is kinda off on these and I’m between sizes. For reference I measure with a cloth tape: 31” True waist / 33” where pants sit on hips / 38.5” around seat / 176lbs / 5ft 10” / Athletic build. The medium are loose on the waist and the opposet adjuster has to be pulled all the way in to bring them tight, theres also a ton of room in the seat whi... Read Morech could potentially snag on the nose of a saddle. Thighs, calves, cuffs and overall length seem to be pretty good though. Small just fits in the waist but theres no elasticity with the opposet all the way open so it’s a bit too close for comfort. The seat fits better and the thighs, calves and cuffs are a bit more fitted but still comfortable. Length is a hair too short with leg bent in a pedalling position. I feel the ‘Medium’ fits more like a ‘Large’ from other brands and there needs to be an intermediate size between S and M. I will be returning both pairs as either size is a sacrifice, which sucks because they seem really well made.

A bit too short and snug at the cuff
I'd love the fit of these pants if they could come down long enough to fit over the top of my winter hightop riding shoes. The cuff is too snug and rides up over the top of the shoes. Poor, poor, poor design
Who ever is responsible for designing Patagonia mountain biking stuff needs to do A LOT more research. Pfiou, it fits great!
Got my pants today. I was concern about the size: I'm slighlty more than 6,1; 176lbs. I knew for sure that Large would be too large, so I went with Medium. Fits just fine! Bit small around the thighs and crotch area. I am on the upper range of medium for most clothes so this isn't too surprising. Great Riding Pants
The finish and tech on these pants are great. The long zippers on the lower legs are great. One negative is that they tend to slide down off my waist while pedaling. Really like that they are light and windproof. Have not worn in the rain but I stay dry from kicking up water when riding through the melting snow. Only complaint is durability if you fall. Highly Focused Weather Solution
High quality & focus on cycling utility was apparent from the first wearing. The fit, taper, and pocket design is very much oriented toward cycling. Love these pants for mtn biking on the West Coast in winter. They are breathable and lightweight, but the material is too thin in certain areas. The material is already starting to rip where it rubs against the bike seat. Re-enforcing this area and the knees would make these 10/10.

Amazing quality - runs small (for me at least)
Quality is top notch. Price is a little high. The sizing chart recommended a large. Being on the end of the large scale, 36 waist. These are the finest waterproof gear I have purchased. Living in a temperate rain forest, we ride year round with significant rainfall and weather variance, the Pisgah National Forest. Lightweight, great cut, weather resistant... but too fragile.
I got these to use as my winter pants for aggressive trail and "enduro-style" riding. I have been extremely pleased with the general fit, including the waistband design and adjustment system. The weatherproofing is also impressive; they have kept me dry in some brutal conditions, shedding mud and water easily (while remaining relatively b... Read Morereathable). The pocket design is nice, and I like that they double as vents. On the other hand, I am NOT psyched on the durability of these pants. I have ripped them in 3 places within the first few weeks of using them. Twice in the crotch after snagging them on my top-tube-mounted GPS, and once on the knee by way of a pokey stick -- neither incident was one in which I would expect a pair of hardcore MTB pants to fail. Fortunately, these are easy fixes, and I know come spring that Patagonia will fix them up to better than new for me. I would recommend these pants to my friends who ride closer to the XC end of the spectrum, but for my more gravity-oriented friends who will be rougher with their gear, I'll be recommending that they look for something a bit tougher.
Versatile Cool Weather MTB Pants
Cool temperatures have finally hit New England and I've always struggled to find the right pants to MTB ride in, at least until now. The Dirt Roamer Storm Pant is perfect in so many ways. I was apprehensive about these pants, but have no regrets since purchasing them. I've field tested them on my bike three times now, 43 degrees and windy, 38 degrees wet and windy and 50 degrees wet and windy. Light and Contoured
I purchased these pants to replace a pair of Patagonia waterproof biking pants I purchased in 2002 for adventure racing in bad weather. I could have purchased a medium th... Read Moreat fits perfectly everywhere BUT in the waste. The waste was ever so slightly tight and would have been perfect if it had a small elastic patch in the band somewhere in the waste band. I was concerned that even though it fit ok standing and stretching at home it might be uncomfortable while climbing up the mountain on my bike. I wear as size 33 in the dirt roamer shorts. I am also surprise that the pant does not have the snaps to faster the pant to the inner dirt roamer short liner. The large allows me to tighten the waste band to achieve the perfect fit there BUT the rest of the pant is a little baggy and I am concerned that I might one day catch my crotch on the seat in technical terrain and rip it like I did with its predecessor. I went with the large and hope not to regret it. The pant construction and fabric are excellent. I have not yet tested the waterproof aspect of the pant but totally expect to this winter riding the soggy North Shore of Vancouver, BC. The lower leg construction seems tight enough to avoid snagging on the chain ring which was a problem in the old version. The old pant also wore our in the seat and crotch due to mud on the seat grinding into the fabric and wearing out the threads in the seams on long wet and muddy rides. I am hoping this new pant doesnt suffer the same fate but have also started using fenders to reduce the amount of mud that sprays up on the pant and the seat. I will happily post another review once I have a chance to truly test them during their intended use this winter in harsher conditions.
Perfect for the rainy muddy ride
I picked this up for the rainy and muddy rides I figured I'd be taking this winter. They arrived just in time. They were comfortable, didn't get in the way and kept me dry. And as an extra bonus at the end of the ride my friend and I were covered head to toe in mud, except for these pants.
