I finally bought a full length Patagonia in preparation for the frigid winter months to come. I was so excited when I first tried it on. The cuffs are comfy, the fabric so soft, love the length, and it looks good. My only complaint is how it does not keep me warm. Confused by all the warm reviews and not sure if the inconsistency is due to the recy... Read Morecled down? Maybe the soft fabric does not block the wind? Whatever is the reason this coat is cold. The right jacket for temps in the 40s, maybe early fall or late spring, but certainly not warm for the cold winter months.
Amazing material but too long
I’m so bummed this parka was just too long. I’m 5’7” so I didn’t expect it to hit so far below my knee. The material is soft and so so comfortable and the jacket is very well made with nice features like the cuffs on the arms. Ultimately I returned it for the Jackson Glacier jacket
The perfect city parka
I grew up in a warm climate and transplanted to a cold one about 15 years ago. I have never been happy with a winter parka until I found this one. It is extremely warm, lightweight, and cozy. I especially like the long length and the fleece-lined outer pockets to keep my hands extra toasty.
Returned: Nice Jacket but Hate the Snap Pockets
I am heartbroken and torn because while I like this jacket, I have returned it to REI because I cannot stand that the external pockets aren't zippered. This jacket is a great, long length and super warm. The material is satin-y, and I love that the sleeve cuffs are a tight, stretchy material. However, I cannot stand that both of the external p... Read Moreockets are each held by a single snap closure. There is a small, internal zippered pocket, but I don't want to have to unzip my coat every time I need something from it, and it can't fit that much anyways. I do a lot of recreational outdoor activities in winter, as well as travel often, visiting large cities and taking public transportation. I don't like the fact that in such a pricey, luxurious jacket my phone, keys, or other belongings could so easily fall out or be pickpocketed since the pockets are so exposed :(
Given the description and reviews on this jacket I thought it would be a lot nicer than what it is. It’s not very warm and the feathers inside the jacket are starting to poke out and I’ve only worn it three times so it doesn’t seem like it’s going to last for more than one winter. For the price, definitely could find something of higher quality and... Read More warmer!
We're sorry to hear this Parka has been disappointing, Hayley! Great quality and super warm
I love this jacket! But, I ordered the Obsidian Plum color online and it is absolutely not the color in the pictures. I was really hoping for the deep purple but it is a much more bright purple in person. It is still a great jacket and fits great but I had to exchange it for the black one.
This fits exactly as I wanted, with room for layers. I am 5.1 and 108 lbs and can wear a vest or big sweater under it which is perfect for being in snow country. I wish the side pockets had zippers instead of a snap. The inside pocket does have a zipper but it is not as deep as my previous Patagonia parka, which also had deeper, zippered side pocke... Lovely and Warm
This works so well to keep me warm on the sub-zero days. It very light and easy to carry indoors. I was concerned it would be too long on me but the length is perfect for keeping the cold out. Pockets are great for hands, phones, glasses, keys... I love not having to carry a purse! Great for travel.
I purchased the silent down shorter jacket and while the fit was not right on me, I really liked the fabric. I saw the long version and I'm in love. It's so soft, great quality and well designed. Read Morey snow boots so I'm very warm when it's really cold out. I walk the dog daily and having a long warm coat as an option is key - I also love the old school look. Being able to zip, snap and have it opened or closed is great as we're walking. A medium fit but was snug in the body. The arms were way too short though. The large fits really well with a little extra room. It's actually very flattering for a long down coat - sliming - even in the large size. Worth every penny.
This coat is beautiful, feels so luxurious to wear. Warm, light. I ordered large because I have sometimes found the fit between the shoulder and sleeve to be tight on Patagonia tops and I don't like that tightness. So my coat is a little big but feels great and will be great for layering.
Super warm for Minnesota winter
I have been wearing this coat in the negative temperatures that come with Minnesota winter and it's everything I wanted. The length leaves very little of my legs exposed when I wear boots and the hood keeps my head warm. It's insulating, soft and warm without being heavy. Absolutely worth it.
Warm and comfortable
This is my second Silent Down Coat. I loved my last one, and would wear it most of the winter, as it was light, warm and very comfortable, as well as flattering. Just what I have been looking for
I have tried other comparable brands and have not been satisfied. When I discovered this coat in my local Patagonia store I was instantly sold. Its super warm (I live in Maine, warmth is a must), lightweight and doesnt look like Im wearing a sleeping bag. I am thrilled with my purchase.
Not that warm
This coat is very comfortable and lightweight and pretty attractive for a puffer. I love that it is reused down and the company ethical standards. But I dont find it that warm which is disappointing. At 25-30 degrees I was marginally warm. For the price and description, expected it to be warm down to zero. I will probably return it.

Super warm and comfortable
Great coat for cold winters. I do not have to wear many layers underneath to keep warm even in freezing temperatures. I am good with this coat and a t-shirt underneath even in 20 degree weather. It is very windproof, which is good for Chicago winters. It covers my knees for extra warmth, too
Best Cozy Coat Ever!
Buying this coat was a splurge, and I'm happy to say I have zero regrets. This coat is so unbelievably soft and toasty warm. I'm a teacher in upstate NY, were we take winter seriously. The extra length of this coat is perfect for recess duty, running errand in big wind chill, and outdoor winter parties.
We're so glad to hear that our longest parka is keeping you warm out there on all your daily adventures. Thanks for the review, Susan!
I have not wear the jacket yet (that's why 4 stars) because the weather is still pretty warm but just after trying it I was very happy with how the jacked fits, looks, feels. This is THE BEST down jacket.
I put this jacket on the moment it gets chilly in the fall and until it gets too warm in the spring. I live in Montana and will wear this for easily 6 months out of the year. Warm and comfortable
While I LOVE this coat, there are a few random things about it I'd like to change. I wish that the exterior hand pockets zipped closed rather than a single button snap closure. Read More so I guess you use that instead.. I am 5"8" 135lb and I find that I needed the medium only because of the sleeve length. The sleeves are too short in the small, like so short. So the coat isn't as fitted if you size up to accommodate the sleeve length issue. Medium the sleeve length is great, and I suppose now I just have more room for a big layer underneath. Otherwise I am so in love with this coat. It is warm, and the entire reason I wanted it is due to the length- it hits me mid calf. It has been -22 ° in Montana and I walk around comfortably in this coat, it's awesome.

Pockets not zippered
Having pockets that zip is extremely important. Every large winter coat I've had- even from Patagonia has zippered pockets. But this is a single, extremely cheap looking single snap in the middle. I am contemplating returning it but I really need it. Very frustrating.

Almost perfect coat
This coat is very warm, material is soft. The zipper is very sturdy, I feel like zippers can be a weak point in a jacket. I really love that much of the coat comes from recycled materials. Great in the northeast
I traded in my glacier parka for this jacket and am very glad -- living in NYC, the length and warmth have been excellent to get me through the worst of winter. Now my jacket did have a tiny hole so I mailed it back but I received a new one less than a week later no questions asked. For reference I live in Seattle, WA.
After four purchases and returns, I finally have a coat that is comfortable and warm. A few thoughts: 1) it doesn't have an exterior Patagonia label which surprised me because I'd wear it proudly. Very lightweight and flattering.
This jacket has a looser fit. It fits just slightly bigger on me than the Dusty Mesa Parka, which I have in the same size. This coat is so close but theres a few issues that make it a coat I cant recommend. The zipper is a hassle to use. It gets stuck and is hard to get in and out of.
