If we have any hope of a thriving planet—much less a business—it is going to take all of us doing what we can with the resources we have. This is what we can do.
I now own four of these. So warm and light weight and fast drying. Pulling the hood up over a hat makes it warm to sleep in when backpacking and if the day gets cold while skiing I pull it over my head and under my helmet for extra warmth. It doesn't get smelly with multiple wearing so its great for traveling and for hut trips,
I love the wool-air. I mean this is my 3rd over the last 5 years. Super lightweight, super warm and super comfy. I even sleep in it backpacking! Cuts wind like a champ too. I wear mine for all things from the city to the summit. Love!
This is such a great layer. It packs a lot of warmth for its weight and layers beautifully weather over a thinner layer if needed or under a thicker. The hood is the absolute BOMB on this layer. It is perfect to slip under a ski helmet or a bike helmet on a chilly day - not bulky or baggy - just right! I cannot recommend this enough!
The color (Anacapa blue) is very pretty. The fabric is lightweight and seems warm. I am petite but busty and had to size up to a large. I am a small/medium in most brands.
I was inspired to buy this stylish, functional mid layer hoody top from 2 friends wearing this in the Tetons. Love the stretchy fit, hip length, light weight ( for hiking/ backpacking), no zip hoody design. Perfect top for 4 seasons, with its merino/ capilene blend. Will bring on my travels as excellent all around casual-to-adventure mid layer.
I love this base layer! I wear it every time I go skiing. It's warm, lightweight, and supremely comfortable. I almost always have the hood up under my ski helmet so my neck stays warm and dry. I like it so much, I got a second one!
I was skeptical that this would keep me warm, but was pleasantly surprised when I wore it under a long sleeved cotton T shirt at an ice hockey game. It's still pretty cool when not seated near the ice and I was comfortable throughout the entire game.

The hood with face buff combo is fantastic! The material is soft, breathable and warm. Fits great under a helmet and tucked into goggles while riding. Also hood is perfect over a hat in the wind.

Maybe some day Ill be able to wear womens clothing by Patagonia, until then, mens xs or small is all that comes close to fitting my lean, athletic body type.
I find it strange since my body type is much like the typical hiker/climber that the brand is marketed too. I guess its also marketed to the large general population that is not quite as lean and muscular.
Keep trying Patagonia!
Great product, inadequate fit.
Last year, I purchased a capilene air hoody for my girlfriend, and it was love from the first time she put it on. My New Favorite Top
The first time I put this on, I didn't want to take it off. I love the weight of the fabric, the lightweight, but cozy feel, and the overall comfort of this top. Read Mored/cool summer evenings as it just seems to 'know' how to keep me comfortable, no matter the ambient temperature. I want to wear this everyday! Highly recommend.
Super comf. Love this as it looks dressy for everyday wear but can be used for athletic outings as well. The hood makes it do versatile as it doubles as a turtleneck or a hoody.
I have three of these and wear them pretty much every day for either working at the mountain or free skiing. They are really comfortable, warm, breathable, and lightweight. I especially love the hood, which I can either pull up under my helmet or wear as an neck buff.
I wore this to layer up for a cold day on the ski hill. Super light but also super warm! The fabric is not opaque, even in black...if wearing it as your top layer, you'll def want at least a full coverage sports bra on underneath.
This layer is amazing. I used to wear one of Patagonia's sun hoody's under my winter layers at all times. This, however, has replaced that layer unless it is really tropical out. It seems to breathe amazingly well when needed, and when it is chilly, it covers every nook and cranny. The hood/balaklava scene is wonderful - it keeps the cold... Read More drafts out and the skin protected. Also doesn't seem to get that smelly, I am pleasantly surprised. Overall, I 10/10 recommend this layer for any winter backcountry pursuits, particularly those that include exposures to arctic breezes and liquid-water freezes.
Incredibly functional but also super flattering, and looks good on work calls. I wear this on the coldest ski days, and it keeps me warm but not hot. Also the hood fits great under a helmet and the front pulls up over my nose to keep my face warm. This is the second one I bought because I rely so heavily on it in the winter.
I love wearing this hoody because it's SO warm and cozy. Plus it's versatile enough I feel like I can wear it casually, while I'm skiing, or as another layer for going to yoga class.
I love the design and feel of this garment. It does run a bit large. The fabric is very stretchy, time will tell how it holds up. Hey Arleen, thanks for the review. We're sorry to hear that it didn't work out with this baselayer. While the Capilene Air line is warm and breathable, it's not for everyone. Sadly we no longer sell the expedition weight capilene but we'd recommend checking out the [Women's Capilene Thermal Weight Zip-Neck](https://www.patagonia.com/product/womens-capilene-thermal-weight-baselayer-zip-neck/43662.html?dwvar_43662_color=BLK&cgid=womens-baselayers-thermal-weight) as an alternative.

Comfortable, Warm, Easy to Move and Looks Nice
I LOVE this shirt and plan to get a few different colors. The fit is extremely comfortable, it's form fitting which is great as a layer for skiing, hiking, running or other active sports. Yes. This hoody works. The waffle knit is surprisingly warm and breathable. The hood is comfortable and the neck is high enough to cover way more than my chin. I wear this layer every single day so far this cold winter. I use the hoody when I take to dogs out first thing in the morning when its 28-30 degrees and I love how it frames my face perfectly, an added bonus to have my mouth and nose covered. I washed it in a bag made for delicates, on the delicate cycle (minimal spin) in cold water, and hung it to dry. It dried quickly and did not shrink. After a hard day of sweating, this material does not hold odors, so I can go straight to apres fishing or apres skiing.
My favorite, most worn Patagonia garment hands down (and I have many). It is the perfect warmth, but is never hot. It is light and the hood is a dream. I wear it on every single cool weather run. I would be lost without this and recommend it to everyone.
Technical AND super cozy all in one. The fit is spot on and the weight is not at all bulky. For the fit/length: hugs a bit, so super to drape over tights but tuck naturally into bibs. It's nice to throw up the hood the colder outside.
Couldn't find washing directions in English. Looks like has to be washed on delicate. Would have liked if could just throw in with rest of laundry.
I really liked this especially the beautiful blue! Only reason I sent it back is you could see my bra through it. Otherwise I love it and is so warm. The hood is a great idea that becomes a warm turtle neck.
This has fast become my favorite layer for mountain running. It packs small (and light) into a running vest, it is incredibly warm and insulates well when it's windy. Present for my wife who often gets cold. She is wearing it all of the time. Looks great. Fits great. Too warm now to test the hoody but looking forward to cool weather in Michigans Upper Peninsula this fall.

The air hoodie has been an amazing addition to my wardrobe. It is the perfect piece for laying under a vest or jacket, provides just the right amount of warmth with out the bulk. Well worth the investment.
this top is so comfortable, non itchy , and warm. I can wear it under my Nano Air jacket in freezing temps without feeling cold. I love the hoody portion to help shield my face and neck from strong winds. wore it through the winter, and purchased a second one a few months later
I wanted to see how this held up before writing a review. I love it so much I'm back online to order another one! My air hoody has lasted 2 very active snow ski seasons. This is the PERFECT base layer for skiing, running, or nice enough for dinner. FYI: Do NOT wash with anything else ever. It is a lint magnet.
Ive had the hoodless version of this shirt for years and just got this one. The original one is still in perfect condition even after years of a lot of use out camping, skiing, kayaking and hiking. I can add a super thin wool layer underneath and a warm layer on top and am toasty even skiing. I love this shirt!
I wear this all the time. I bought one for my daughter-in-law who is a classroom teacher teaching with the windows open for ventilation in chilly winter. This is perfect for keeping warm. I find it does attract lint however.
I have this hoody in two colors and would definitely buy more if more colors get released. It can be worn as a base layer or just a top that looks adorable with jeans. It's very flattering. I love it. Its warm without bulk. I typically wear an xs but I bought small in this - but I like my clothes loose. I came back and bought an axs and they both work - they have a lot of stretch.

I love the simplicity of the seamless pullover construction with the high neck and hood - though these same features mean I mostly wear it if I think Ill be leaving it on, not needing to adjust my layers to be comfortable - so either very cold weather or low heat generating activities. This is the best base layer I have owned, ever! It's really warm and soft and I wear this on every ski and climbing trip and even just at home. The hood and long neck is a life saver and works as a face mask in cold weater. I already bought 2 pieces, one in L and one in M and will probably by another one :P
Purchased several months ago and I've used it often this winter. It's my favorite layer for ski touring -- my go to for uphill ascents - keeps me warm but not too warm. It's a versatile, warm, breathable layer. I would wear it everyday - going to get another one in a different color!
I use it as a base layer or to sleep in for hiking, backpacking and winter camping; it kept me warm and dry. However. The part where it connects to the neck warmer piece is not good. It's literally a tiny, stretchy, elastic band that is very uncomfortable. It needs to be reinforced, it pulls there (at the neck warmer part) and doesn't fit... Hi Danielle, we're so sorry to hear about the pilling issue. Because this is a knit garment, it does have a tendency to pill. There are few this that can be done to mitigate pilling. We recommend washing that item either by hand in cool to cold water, or separately in your washing machine on the gentle cycle. It's best to lay it flat to dry rather than place it in the dryer where the fabric can easily get abraded.
To remove pilling that has already occurred, a sweater shaver or sweater stone is an excellent tool and can help the garment look brand new again.

Wear it nearly daily in winter
I have so many tops for skiing and running in winter, but I've found my perfect setup with this shirt. When it is cold, I wear a long sleeve base layer, this shirt on top, and then whatever jacket I want, depending how cold it is. I wear it every single time I am skiing or running, from below zero up to about 30 degrees. I'm planning to b... Read Moreuy a second one (and donate my other tops)--it's that perfect. I'm 5'10" 145 pounds--large is perfect for layering over another shirt. Medium would work for a tighter fit or as a first layer.
This top is breathable and surprisingly warm. Despite below-freezing temps during winter in Michigan, I was able to wear this and a jacket on a ski trip in February. The fabric is thin but not transparent, warm but not suffocating. Great product for warmth without the bulk.
Purchased this baselayer w/hoodie for skiing in Co. it worked so well and felt so good! Very soft, NOT scratchy and I didnt even need another layer besides my ski coat. Definitely recommend for anyone doing cold weather activities.
I've only worn this layer once since I bought it, I also gave 2 as gifts, it is fitted and warm. I love anything with Merino wool in it, the perfect fiber for warmth. It has a hood too which can be pulled up as a mask, extra benefit! I used it for skiing on a super cold day, I'll be using it in spring as a top layer for hiking. I might ne... I love this thermal so much. I was a bit worried that i was gonna be cold on my bike ride at 50 degrees cause its so light and fresh but it kept me warm and cozy! I am super happy with my purchase! Im glad this company exists!
This hoody is the best thing I own for any outdoor activity in the cold (I actually have two). I wear one daily starting with a morning trail run. It dries in no time, so by afternoon Im wearing it again for either a walk or a bike ride. Its super lightweight but extra warm. The hood is the beat part as I dont need a hat and it can cover my face when the wind bites. I think the reason its so warm is because the design doesnt let warmth escape through the neckline due to the hood. I have so much Patagonia and this is by far my favorite! Ill buy another next year if they continue to make it as well as its made now.
Flattering and warm but pills after half a dozen washes
I bought this one size up because it's quite fitted and I'm in my 60's.
Pros: Flattering, good colors, lightweight, great layer of warmth, super comfy with a layer of silk underneath.
Cons: Looks like I've had for 5 years after one season of wearing. And I didn't even put it in the dryer! With that flaw, the price point sho... Read Moreuld be much lower.
Thank you for the review on our Capilene Air Hoody. Friction is what causes pilling on garments like this one, so the best way to avoid that moving forward would be to treat it as gently as possible. Wash in a garment bag without any other hardware in the load and with like colors, then air dry. This will help reduce friction that causes the pilling. You could also give it a go with a sweater stone to see if it can be removed. If you find that after all that, you're not satisfied, feel free to give us a [call or chat](https://help.patagonia.com/s/) so we can discuss options.

Best Base Layer EVER
Quite simply, this is the best base layer I have ever owned. I use it all winter long. It's incredibly soft and comfortable. Yet the best feature is that you can wear it for high-output, sweaty activities and you still feel dry and warm. It's expensive, but truly worth every penny. I just got my 3rd one this season because I no longer wan... Read Moret to use any other base layer.
Beautiful piece to use by itself or as a warmth layer. Love the material at neck, can use as gator, or as a hood. Washes and dries beautifully! Wish it came in more colors!
I bought this for my wife, who loves it, but is going to use it for a casual sweater, claiming it looks too nice to wear for hiking. I guess I will have to get her another one to use for hiking. It looks great, and she loves the soft feel.
I just bought a second because my first is being worn every day. Good for a variety of temps from cool to warm. Surprisingly wind resistant too. I live in this thing and hope for more colors. Totally worth the price, washes well, dries in about half an hour or less, great for travel, sleeping in a van, pretty much anything you want to do, it works.... Read More I LOVE this hoodie.
Awesome hoody! super soft and comfortable. Does not loose shape or color. From hiking to casual wear in the city. Always looks good. Perfect size for me.
I got one as a gift and ordered another right away using a gift certificate since I was wearing it ALL the time. Perfect over a wool T-shirt for XC skiing in cold conditions, or long days on the fat bike in cold conditions, or lazy days in my favorite chair, curled up reading a book. Thank you, Patagonia, for another attractive, well-designed, very functional product.
I love how light & warm this is! I like the grey color, but prefer to wear a vest over or tank under for slight see through fabric. Not itchy at all. I would wear it every day if I could! I'm 5'7" ~130lbs, size M is perfect.
This top is so good for cold weather. It is super light but holds warmth well. I've reached for it multiple times in the past week (and if I'm being honest, I didn't wash it in between and it didn't stink like capilene/polypro often does). Overall pretty satisfied with the Capilene Air Hoody. It is so incredibly warm, so much so that just trying it on and walking around in my unheated house made me sweat! Got this as a gift. The fabric is really soft and keeps me at a comfortable temperature when hiking. I use it as a base layer and as a top. I would definitely buy one on my own in the future.
Such a flattering cut! Very warm. Great cowl-neck style + hood! Only thing I would recommend is to wash inside out and hang dry as it is prone to piling and lint build up. Totally recommend!
I usually run very cold and this layer has helped keep me warmer than Ive ever been during winter actitives! Fantastic top that feels lightweight but holds warmth like no other. Awesome hood pulls up easily and stays in place. I have been living in this piece since it arrived and just ordered a second color. Will not disappoint!
Love this shirt! I am just back from a 2 hour winter hike, @ 28 degrees, and I have it on now. I had layers to start, but shortly into the hike I took them off and stuffed them into my pack, and did the entire hike in this shirt. So warm and comfortable! I will also wear it snow shoeing when we get another big snow storm. Washes great, too!
This top is amazing! I have one in almost every color at this point. I wear them around my house and out and about, and also when Im hiking 8 miles in all kinds of winter weather in the Linville Gorge. I love the hood and use it frequently on summits! If these shirts had thumb holes it would take it over the top!! :)
Great product! Keeps you warm for being so lite. Nice stretch that recovers and love the seamless design. The neck can be a small bit annoying when worn down vs overhead but I dont like form fitting around my neck; I dont think it would bother most people. Overall a great product.
I bought my capilene air hoodie when Patagonia first released them a few (getting closer to several) years ago at this point I think.

The lack of seams makes it wear well under anything, and the wool adapts well to the changes in temperature that occur when gaining and losing thousands of feet in a single day. Not to mention, it dries quickly enough to hand wash it in the river and wear it the next day.
It has finally started to wear a little thin around the elbows, and I am writing this review as I pop over to buy another because it has been worth every penny.
I love this hoody. I work asa chemist and I wear under my lab coat, its super comfortable, and looks great.
Wearing it as layers for winter with other jacket is the perfect combination
I picked this up at the recommendation of a team member. She let me know the top was very stretchy and had heard it worked great for other women. My wife really enjoys it- perfect for helping her stay comfortable while inside or outside on a cold day.
We're sorry to hear that you weren't satisfied with the quality of our Women's Capilene Air Hoody. If the person you bought this for is unhappy with it, please let them know they are still welcome to send it in for a [return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) even if it was given as a gift.

Perfect hoodie!
I have tons of wool hoodies and base layers but this one is perfect. Stretchy, not stiff, light, not itchy, I can't believe I haven't found this before. It will be my go-to piece all year. I LOVE it
I love this as a base layer! And to have a hood attached is a plus! It hugs my body to keep me warm without adding extra bulk. I love this for cool runs and cold, high elevation hikes.
This is one of my favorite tops for hiking and backpacking. I recently used it in Colorado and Utah - It was a great base layer in 20 degree weather, and a great stand-alone layer when it was 60. It's warm, cozy, and doesn't smell at all (I used it for 4 days with lots of hiking and it smelled fresh!). My family was so impressed they all ... Read Moreordered the same.
