Why So Long?
As a woman with a normal torso length, I've been growing more and more frustrated with the super long builds on all patagonia base layers the past few years. I *dont* want my R1, R2, or any other base/mid layer to cover my butt! I want it to sit right at the hip, for mobility and function. My R1 from almost a decade ago is the perfect length. ... Read MoreI keep trying these new ones and returning them -- maybe even just making a long option and short option? Ya'll, I'm still young (31yo) and don't even have hips and I hate the butt-covering length. Please, patagonia -- stop making womens products designed only for tall folk!

In the meantime, if you find the length too bothersome, please feel free to begin a [return or exchange](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) at your earliest convenience.
A fantastic piece
Let me first start out saying this is a fantastic piece. The warmth to weight ratio with ability to breath is bar none. Just phenomenal. Not to mention its softer than the normal R1's, which I love. So then why 4 stars? The cut is just a little off for me. The shoulders are snug. The back length is a little shorter than I like my cold weather ... Great warmth to weight ratio
This is my go-to mid-layer for skiing. I love how warm it is for how light-weight it is. It also breathes well, so I don't overheat. Washes up great and dries very quickly. I don't use the inner pocket, but did have a zipper issue with one of my earlier season ones. I usually go up one size in anything slim fit. There was enough room for ... Great product - Odd fit
Love the product and material. The material bunches around the shoulders when I purchase a size large enough to fit around my waist.
HI Alan, thank you for this feedback. The R1 Air Zip-Neck Fleece is designed with a slim fit, and it tends to be a pretty straight cut without a lot of give. We're sorry the fit wasn't great for you! Perfect trail running pullover
I just received my pullover and have gone for one trail run with it so far but I am IN LOVE and couldnt wait to write a review. It was about 30 degrees out today. Warmer than a sweater
The lofty baffles of fleece, though small, pack tremendous heat on this pull-over that I wear over a merino base layer as a sweater. We're sorry this fleece was a disappointment. All of the R1 series fleece tops are "slim" fit so they will feel snug compared to our "regular" and "relaxed" fit styles. We'll be happy to help you with a [return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html)!
Nice, but size up
Beautiful Teal color. Lovely fabric. I love the air fabrics. Warm. Love this but the sizing is bad
I ordered a medium and felt it was a little small. So, I ordered a large. Its a little big. I kept the large so I have room for a wool T-shirt underneath. I love the color and material.
Thank you for sharing this feedback, Sarah. We're sorry neither size has been ideal for you! Please let us know if we can be of any help!
Love this top!
I love my R1 air zip neck fleece. It is lightweight and breathable and not too warm to wear indoors during the cooler months yet still provides lots of warmth when layering for winter adventures. Ive received many complements on the light currant blue color. The top is slim fit and has nice long sleeves which fits my body very well.
Not very stretchy material so feels tight in arms and shoulders
We're sorry to hear this fleece was too tight. We went ahead and reached out to you via email to offer some help with your return. We also passed your thoughts along to our Design Team. Thank you so much for your feedback.
Fits completely off. Very very long and uncomfortable

Versatile Super Warm Fleece
What an excellent piece of fleece! It keeps me warm, very warm. I weight 90 lbs so keeping me warm is very important. The Black one, I wear it at dinner and I got a compliment also. I highly recommend this piece of versatile garment. I dont usually write a review but this one I rest my case.
This is a soft, warm, fitted top. It is very comfortable and I wear it for casual wear, hiking and work. Other than that the new R1 Air half-zip is a great purchase for one who wants to stay warm in the colder months..
Fabulous fit but....
Like this top in general HOWEVER I have never had a synthetic garment that smells as mjuch as this one does after activity! I am not a sweaty person but the top smells dreadful and I cant remedy that by washing it. As well, the fabric feels stiff, as though it will soften up with time but it doesn't. Great mid layer
Great mid layer over your base to go skiing. I’m 45, 5’8 150 athletic build. I tried the medium and large and went with large. Best mid layer ever
Love this zip top! I was looking for something warm, but not bulky for layering with base and light jacket to wear hiking and snowshoeing. The fit is perfect - fits over the base, and jackets fit easily over that. Its a perfect fit, and incredibly warm for such a lightweight piece. Exactly what I was looking for!

Wasn't expecting how soft it would be! I have an older R1 from several years ago and this is definitely a cozy upgrade. A great mid-layer for colder days or on its own in the spring and fall. I am taller and I'm always very happy with the length of Patagonia's tops/sleeves. This is no exception.
I do not like tight fitting clothing and this fleece is fabulous. A base layer fits nicely underneath and shoulders are roomy enough to fit my swimmer shoulders. Besides being soft and super comfortable, the fleece is warm. If I could have have one in every color, I would. I would love to see some brighter colors though.

Why the change

A Stellar Performance Fleece
I am completely enamored by the new R1 Air fleece that I purchased earlier this month. Patagonia has always been a leader innovating and perfecting performance base layers, and fleece, in particular. But with this new R1 Air addition, they have created something special that performs exceptionally well. I have worn this quarter zip hiking and on ru... Read Morens in the Bay Area, at temperatures from the high 40's to the low 60's and did not feel overheated or cold. In fact, the innovative zig zag design of the fleece allows for more air flow and really dumps heat during high output physical activity like running. Another impressive thing is that the design does not seem to hinder the fabric's ability to block wind - with a small caveat being as long as you are moving - if you are sitting still for an extended time, you can definitely feel the wind if wearing only a base layer and this fleece. Wearing this working and around town, I was comfortable up to 65 degrees, but in temperatures higher than that, it would likely be too warm. Similarly, I'd also recommend a light shell or windbreaker while hiking in rainy conditions as there isn't much in the way of water resistance with the openings in the zig zag fleece fabric. The length of the arms is almost perfect, but ever so slightly long and at 5'10", sleeve length is always a concern for me. I like the slim cut of this fleece and opted to size up, so that I could layer underneath. That being said, I haven't had any issues with the fleece fitting comfortably under my primary slim cut shell jackets. I have washed the jacket three times and have noticed a bit of pilling, particularly in the under arm area, but that didn't impact the fleece's performance and was easily ameliorated with a sweater shaver/stone. The one thing that I'd suggest that Patagonia revisit is that although the hidden internal chest pocket is great (and yes, you can fit a phone in there), I would have appreciated two handwarmer pockets, since there aren't thumb holes. Although having no exterior pockets makes it easier to layer or utilize as a true mid-layer. As a final note, the R1 Air is definitely the softest, coziest and most adaptable fleece that I have stumbled upon in a very long time and I highly recommend it.
