If we have any hope of a thriving planet—much less a business—it is going to take all of us doing what we can with the resources we have. This is what we can do.
as a long-distance backpacker, i look for durable, comfortable, light-weight, quick-drying gear, and these tights fill all that criteria in spades! AND they stay looking so good, and non-odoress, that i even think they have positively affected my ability to get a hitch into re-supply towns!
i wear the tights under a skirt, and have no issue being t... Read Moreoo hot or too cold, as they seem to wick away moisture (sweat;) and extra heat, while holding in warmth when it's chilly!
this is pair number 5+ and i have yet to find anything that comes close, so i've stopped looking! brava!
These are a great, though I found they run a little small. The elastic waist band is soft but wish they kept the design of years past that was all capeline.
As someone who loves to ski, but absolutely freezes all the time through winter, I found the Patagonia products to be amazing. This bass layer is awesome, very light weight and keeps me warm all day while on the slopes.
I bought these to replace Patagonia Capilene bottoms that I had for 35 years. Perfect weight for under pants on cold morning walks. Well-made and comfortable. I expect to be able to wear them for many years.
I bought this and the top for hiking and kayaking in Patagonia which is pending. So I don't know how it will perform. But the fit is great and the set feels warm.
I am curvy, and I love how these fit, surprisingly (love this brand, but they are notorious for straight fit, even for women)! They keep me warm and cozy!
I believe my fit issues are because I selected the wrong size. An XL would have been a better fit. I am a sz18 and these are a bit baggy on me. Despite the slightly ill fit for me, these have quickly become my favorite pants to throw on and take on a hike, dog walk, errands. Breathable, comfortable, and they wash great.
I wanted to love these, but they are several inches too short and Im only 5 ft 6 in. Legs and waist fit great, but fit was small in the rear and restrictive when moving. Returned.
Hello Alexandra, thank you for the feedback on these baselayer bottoms. The inseam on these run from 26.5" to 28.5" depending on size. If you're looking for an option with more stretch we recommend checking out the [Women's Capilene Air Bottoms](https://www.patagonia.com/product/womens-capilene-air-baselayer-bottoms/36565.html?dwvar_36565_color=BLK&cgid=root). They do come in a 25.5"-27.5" inseam length depending on size, so something to keep in mind.

This is my second pair
This is my second pair of baselayer bottoms. Capilene is a substantial fabric. Wears well. Comfortable and warm. Pricey but worth the extra.
Great odor control and surprisingly warm. Can be worn between 50 F and 20 F. They also breathe really well and can be worn in the office all day without getting too hot.
If you have cold and short legs, these are a great pant for you! I have long legs, and these are way too short, but they keep me warm enough and I just wear tall socks with them. I liked them enough to get a second pair. The only reason i give them 4 stars is due to the length.
Length is probably 4 inches above my ankle and I am 5 ft 3.5 in tall. I prefer that length anyways for wearing think/long socks. Fit is form fitting but enough stretch/give to move freely. If you are in between sizes, I would size down
I have some black midweight capilenes that I have had for the last couple seasons. I love them so much I finally got a second pair this fall. Tried them on and they feel very different from my other pair (same thing). This year's version is tight in the thighs and butt and loose in the waistband. They bind on my legs/butt when I bring my knees... Read More up or when I bend over, causing the loose waistband to slide down and expose my low back. (of note - I wear an XS snow pant in Patagonia and they are a little big- these are size Small so should have plenty of room in the legs). Will likely have to try to cut and resew the waistband to keep them up and be useable for skiing, otherwise will have wasted my money. Would 100% recommend the version from a couple years back but definitely not the current version
The fit is excellent. It is like a second skin. Perfect daily wear for retirees who value comfort and quality above all else. I like the new blue color I bought. I just wish you still made it in the basic gray I bought a few years ago.
The Pros:
- nice and warm
- great quality work and product
The Cons:
- way too short
- tight around calf and loose around waist (don't know if i should exchange for size up or down???)
- stiff-ish material, non-stretch
- low-medium waist, high-waisted preferred
Bottom-line: If they were high-waisted and longer, they would've been great!... Read More They accomplish base purpose, but they're not comfortable.

Prefer old style
Fit was not tight which I liked. I am small and it was comfortable. However, I prefer my old Capilene soft polyester baselayer because I prefer the old style narrow elastic waistband.
Love the product! I ordered this item in a variety of sizes as I have gained weight since the beginning of COVID and was not sure what size I needed (I had XXS at home from a few years ago). I also ordered the item in the color Hut to Hut: Salt Grey but found that the item in this color was a little different. I don't know if the fabric is a l... Read Moreittle different or the if there is a slight difference in the way they are cut but I noticed a slight difference when I tried them on so I stayed with the all black.
Love the product and miss the Lightweight version.
These bottoms are too tight and too restrictive to move in. I bought my usual Patagonia size of XS. I didnt feel like I could sit easily and definitely could not ski easily in them (which is why I bought them). I have the matching top (same size of XS) with zipper and that item is loose/stretchy enough to move in and works well as a base layer or m... Read Moreid layer. However these do not. Im unsure why the top fits and stretches enough, but these bottoms don't. I exchanged these bottoms for the Women's Capilene® Thermal Weight Bottoms and those are absolutely perfect for a warm ski base layer so I highly recommend those instead!
I looked at different brands and found this base layer to be the best price for what I needed. They keep me warm under my ski pants. The only reason why I am not giving them 5 stars is that I expected them to be more stretchy like a legging.
The material is soft, it is very light, it won't be warm if worn on its own but it is really good when paired with pants.
I usually wear a small but this ran a bit big, not very big but I would have loved it to be a bit tighter.
We appreciate your review Hamsa! If you'd like a warmer [baselayer](https://www.patagonia.com/shop/womens-baselayers) which has some stretch in the fabric, we recommend our Thermal Weight or Capilene Air Bottoms. Very comfortable
Very comfortable and a great layer to add on for warmth.
Though not quite as warm, I prefer these over the thermal weight due to the material being more durable. Its been a while since I replaced these and I was surprised to find the fit running much bigger than my last pair. A bit of a disappointment but Id much rather be comfortable! Overall, love em!
The best patagonia thermals I ever bought were in the 90s. Those were well made and thick, wore well and I have been seeking to find some ever since. I still have them, though they are thread bare they are still thicker than this product. Dissapointed.
Hello Nancy, we are sorry to learn about your disappointment with the updated iteration of the bottoms. Nice but a big big
I like these they seem very warm. The only thing i'm not sure about is that I thought they were going to be like leggings and tight to the legs. They are baggy and not tight fitting on me. 5'2" 140 lbs and I ordered a medium. I generally wear size 4-6 pants.
Hello Louise, thank you for taking the time to share your review. Based on your height and weight, the Size S may be more suitable and offer a trimmer fit. You can initiate the free [exchange](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) via our website.

Lighter than I thought.
Comfortable and warm. But the fabric is extremely lightweight.
I typically wear these under my pants when Im hiking or having to stay outside for long periods of time.
I enjoy wearing my midweight bottoms under my jeans in the winter when Im outside for long periods of time.
It just makes me feel more comfortable and able to stay outside for longer periods of time and enjoy the outdoor experience.
I love that these are 100% recycled! I am always looking for clothing that is sustainably made. However, I did not like the fit and the feel of product. Whenever I put them on, they immediately felt very itchy along the seem on the inside of the thigh. They were also too large on my hip/waist so they kept sliding down, and were way too short for me... Read More even though I got a Small.

Sadly, had to return
It's been years since I've worn capilene bottoms and I remembered a great pair I used to love so I ordered these and failed to see in the description that there is not an elastic ankle cuff on these. These mid-weights seem thin-ish and also run very large through the legs. With no cuff to hold in place and feeling very loose on the leg, I... Warm and comfortable
Great for keeping me warm while walking the dog on cold days. Fit perfectly under long pants--no bunching up or sliding around.
I use these for around the house. The pattern and texture dont lend them to outdoor wear unless its running a quick errand in the car. They are comfortable, warm enough for indoors and easy to wash. Basic for every day. So happy with them.
I wear these at the gym for a work out then the rest of the day as I am a hands-on commercial property manager needing warm legs. This is my second purchase!
So comfortable...love the fit. Perfect weight for sleeping in my down sleeping bag. I tend to always be cold. I'm petite and these come down on my ankles and insulate well under splash gear and booties. I loved the gray moddled and was afraid the cut might change next year. My third pair, love these!
Hi Ted! Thank you for your review. Please know all our garments are under our Ironclad Guarantee. We'd be happy to assist with a [return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) if you are not completely satisfied.

Bummed about the changes!!
I'm a loyal patagonia baselayer user... but I'm very sad about this new cut -- it's short, as others have noted, and leaves my ankles and shins cold -- why, patagonia?? Also, the calves are baggy... again, why? for a baselayer, this doesn't cut the mustard, sadly...
Finally, the sizing is a bit large which is fine, but it'... Read Mores also not accommodating to larger hips so I kind of have to size up.
My recommendation is to go back to the drawing board on these.

last purchase
Have been wearing your
base layers for several years
and love the olde fabric so
it was quite disappointing to note
the latest. Sizes have changed
as well. Am wearing an olde
pair under this new and still
not interesting. Very sorry.
The socks are handsome
but elastic is tight over ankle.
... too bad.
Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback Norvie. We're sorry that these aren't working for you. We've got lots of new gear and would love the opportunity to talk to you about the function and get you into something that will work for your needs. We're also happy to provide garment dimensions prior to purchase.

Nice Baselayer
I will use them with a pair of shorts over top for kayaking in cooler weather and under snow pants for snow shoeing this winter. Nice fit, warm & cozy.
I loved the XS navy blue purchased a season ago so wanted another in violet. The newer XS pair is much less stretchy. Still works great as a base layer but definitely less comfy so docking a star.
Anything, Patagonia makes is of the highest quality and best for the planet I wouldn't consider buying from anywhere else. Thank you reluctant businessman :)
My legs are long so I went with a large which was the perfect length. I never tried a medium. The legs could have been a bit more snug particularly if I was going somewhere brutally cold. For walking, hiking and running outdoors, these kept me toast when placed under a thin tight. The temp got as low as 19 degrees and the wind blew about 15 mph.
Great Buy. Super breathable, and comfortable. Not quite skin tight, sits 2-3 inches above the ankle (If they offered a long option I would have bought it, I'm 5'10", about 150lb). <3
I should have read the description better and these seem like they would be warm.... however, without a drop of spandex these are not staying on when you bend over and wearing under something is uncomfortable. New customer of Patagonias so I will try again!!
Hi Joanne! We're so sorry these weren't what you were expecting! These were designed to be worn as a baselayer, so underneath another pair of pants. If you're looking for a pair of leggings, you could consider the [Center Tights](https://www.patagonia.com/product/womens-centered-tights/21961.html?dwvar_21961_color=SDNA) or the Pack Out Tights. Both are customer and staff favorites!
Hey Arlene! Thanks for taking the time to write this review. You're absolutely correct - these are not leggings but are actually intended to be worn as a baselayer underneath another pair of pants. You could try out the [Pack Out Tights](https://www.patagonia.com/product/womens-pack-out-tights/21995.html?dwvar_21995_color=NENA) if you're looking for a comfy pair of leggings!

Warm but fit big
These do not fit my legs at all. Im 5 2 116lbs slender/athletic build. I kept them and they keep me warm but they are a loose fit for long Johns. Not all women have a booty and awesome muscle thighs.
Based on the images, I was hoping that these bottoms would be more form fitting. They are very warm and I love the Capilene, but past the knees they are loose and baggy.
Staying close to home these days during COVID & a cold Michigan winter. I bought this as a layering piece to stay warm on daily walks & even indoors (I tend to be cold much of the time). This has been perfect - warm, light, very comfortable.
The fit is good and they are very comfortable to wear. I wear them under jeans or cords for walking as well as in a cool house. They keep me warm except in very cold or windy weather when I wear the thermal weight. I would definitely buy them again.
These are great -- warm, stretch enough but hold their shape, they stay up, there's no static or bunching under layers, and they seem durable. But I'm 6 ft with long legs and need at least 3 inches for them to be long enough. Please add tall sizes for bottoms!
Very interesting material- wasnt sure how I felt about it. Seems thin. BUT whoa!! I wear just these as my base layer with uninsulated snow/winter outer shell and I stay warm in temps 10-30 degrees. Very happy with them!
I love the material. I wear both S & M and have a lot of pata base layers. I didnt like the loose fit of the leg bottoms at first but Ive been wearing them everyday and really like them now. Thank You!
These are not leggings that hug your legs. The fabric is rather stiff, and simply not stretchy like the many other pairs of leggings I own. The waist band is placed at an odd spot as well, and I have both high-waisted and hip-slung leggings--these are somewhere in between and very unflattering, and the problem is not a matter of fit but placement. ... Thank for your the feedback on fit for our Women's Capilene Midweight Bottoms! These are intended to be used as a base layer, not necessarily worn on their own, so they won't have the same fit or feel of a standard legging. If that is what you were in the market for, we'd recommend checking out the [Women's Pack Out Tights](https://www.patagonia.com/product/womens-pack-out-tights/21995.html?dwvar_21995_color=BLK).
I use these as a base layer when it is cold. I bought fleece Patagonia bottoms about 25 years ago and, while worn thin, they still work. I was hoping these were fleece. While disappointed that they are not, I find them comfortable and warm. My cotton base layers arent as warm.
I am so disappointed these are so short-they are supposed to keep you warm, but they go so far up my calf, I end up with some chilly legs! Other than that the fit is great. And very cute! I just wish they were like 6 inches longer.
It's tough to review these because they're totally a well made garment but they just fit weird on my body type. For context, I'm 5'6" and about 160 pounds on an athletic frame - my butt, thighs, and calves are thicker and my waist is kinda small. As I understood it, these base layers were to be a bit looser in the calf/over... Read Moreall leg area but on me they ended up being tight around my calves and butt but somehow sort of baggy in the crotch area and too big in the waist. All that said, they're still wearable, but they definitely don't fit like I thought they would, especially given that the material isn't stretchy. Story of my pants-purchasing life :( Otherwise I can say that they do seem pretty warm but I haven't gotten the chance to camp in them yet!
Thank you for this thoughtful and detailed feedback, Alexis! Please reach out if you'd like any [assistance](https://help.patagonia.com/s/) to return the Midweight Bottoms. Note that the Thermal Weight Bottoms have some spandex, and Capilene Air have mechanical stretch built into the woven nature of that fabric, so either of those might be a better choice for you.

Quality suffers
I already owned a wonderful pair of these midweight bottoms purchased for my Antarctic adventure a few years ago. I re-ordered the same style/size and was astounded at how the quality has suffered in the exact same product. So lightweight to the point of being see-through. Poor cuff design. Too short in the waist /rise so tops do not stay tucked in... Read More and leaves your back exposed to the cold. I do not recommend these baselayers!
I just love these base layer pants! However they are too short for my long legs .
Otherwise I would have given them a five. So I totally recommend them for short-legged friends!
The bottoms fit like a second skin. It fits perfectly in the crotch and does not rub or chafe anywhere. I think the color selection is limited. I bought a medium gray a few years ago which I am still wearing. I may order a black. I am a person who prefers browns, greens and golds (or yellows).
This is great base wear. Not sweater like, but warm like a sweater. I wear them under my scrubs and actually stay toasty. Will be perfect under ski gear. They are thinner than other base layers but warmer... the bottoms could have more butt room, however the issue is probably in the length from crotch to waist
Great lightweight but not too thin tights with interesting fabric texture that makes them supa comfortable. Got two pairs and on one the seam started unraveling after one wear I expect that to be a one-off thing and, knowing Patagonia, expect no trouble getting a replacement. Still, ducked one star for it.
Possibly the roomiest XS leggings I have. I need to gain 10 pounds of muscle in my legs for these to look a bit better.
Arrived with an open seam (inner thigh), so I had to do a bit of stitching before I could try them on.
Usual sizing issues. Info on the site just not accurate. They are too short, they end in the middle of my calves (not even above the ankle) - not something one would want when it's cold and you want to wear a piece for warmth. Also they are very wide and loose in the calf area and that also makes for a weird fit. They really don't look go... Read Moreod, maybe they fit better if your calves are big, but if you have a very average build like me, they won't fit you well. I'm 5'8, and my legs aren't super long - pretty standard, so I don't see a reason why I have such issues with patagonia sizing. Also, they have a very small amount of stretch - not something you want for sport activities (I bought them for skiing) and I just can't see how they would be particularly comfy in that situation. It makes me so sad I cannot wear so many of your items because they just fit me so poorly.

A new personal favorite, lightweight and breathable, perfect for under my gear at work or for any snow activity year round. Fit really well, perfect amount of stretch.
I recently traveled to Antarctica during its Spring season and ordered a bunch of new Patagonia gear to test. I have to say, the quality and comfort couldn't be better. I have been wearing Patagonia for 30+ years. I love my midweight bottoms. I weighed 110, athletic fit with big calves and small waist I wear xs and it fits perfect, more on the loser side which I like. I am going to purchase 2 more pairs! These are great under the nano air pants too! :)
Although I still have my 25-year-old capilene in my drawer, I decided to try the new version. They are very comfortable and unobtrusive under outerwear.
I bought several of the tops and bottoms for my 12-year-old daughter who will be an exchange student in Quebec this winter. They are well-made, soft and cozy, and the cool designs make them feel more like yoga pants than long underwear. She loves them! She is 5‘4“ and 115 pounds, the extra small fit her well.
The bottoms fit perfectly. I am 5'4 with an athletic build and the mediums fit perfectly. I wear them under my pants for work out in the field. I am excited to try them for an upcoming ski trip.
Thanks Zack at The Reno Center for helping me swap the size, as these run one size bigger than my other Patagonia pants. I got them today and can test them out before my Oregon trip next week to see if they will help keep me warmer.
The pants are short, not even reaching the top of my ankle and the material did not have enough elasticity making them tight in the knees when I bent them.

I have worn Patagonia bottom base layers for so long, I wasn't even sure what weight they were.
