If we have any hope of a thriving planet—much less a business—it is going to take all of us doing what we can with the resources we have. This is what we can do.
Perfect for spending a day on campus, it can fit all my jackets, books, and other miscellaneous items I might need throughout the day. Only reason its not five stars is the lack of water bottle holders on the sides of the bag, huge disappointment.
Used this as my travel pack. It's small enough to use as a carryon, spacious enough for a couple of days of clothing plus shoes, and comfortable to wear.
I was looking for a simple, lightweight backpack to use for work and short trips, and when I saw this was on sale for half off I snapped it up quickly. But I should have read these reviews first: It does NOT have an internal organization pocket for small items in addition to the padded laptop sleeve, as is clearly specified in the product descripti... Read Moreon. (At least one other recent review pointed out the same thing.) It's not necessarily a deal breaker for me and I still may end up keeping it as it carries nicely and is as solidly made as everything I've come to expect from Patagonia. But I wish I'd known about the lack of internal storage compartments before purchasing. Please, Patagonia - get your web team to fix this description before others run into the same issue!

Nice backpack but Missing an essential
I like how deep and spacious the space in this pack are. It has a few pockets, I could always use more, but also missing the essential pocket to insert a water bottle. Ive been putting it in the main pocket but it takes up precious space
Thanks for the review, Susan. We're sorry to hear that you're disappointed in your purchase. Whenever this happens, please know we're happy to evaluate the item for a refund or merchandise credit. We've emailed you to gather more information, if this comes up in the future please reach out to our [customer service team](https://help.patagonia.com/s/?_gl=1*1xu0c7e*_ga*MTE3MzgxOTU4OS4xNjQ3NTMxMTc0*_ga_1SYPSJZYJ5*MTY3OTY3MTkxOC42ODEuMS4xNjc5NjcyMTUwLjQuMC4w).
A lot of people were poo-pooing this bag online in the reviews. Yes, less pockets. However, after using the LL Bean equivalent, I do prefer this streamlined backpack. Less is more.
Even after reading up on the specs, I'm still surprised just how much space this backpack offers. Well made, minimalistic, subtle branding, and 100% recycled materials? I can't ask for anything more, especially at sale price.
I use it for city commuting, which often including a daily 3 mile round trip walk . Even fully loaded up with my... Read More laptop/accessories, it's a comfortable pack. Highly recommended.
There is NO internal organization pocket as advertised to separate smaller items so they don't get lost among gear in the main compartment. The only pocket inside the pack is the laptop sleeve. Backpack is otherwise good quality. Just annoyed about false advertisement.
Thank you for the review Danielle, we appreciate you pointing this out. It turns out that there is a mistake on the product page, and this bag actually does not have an internal pocket as listed in the features and specs (outside of the laptop sleeve). It does, however, have external pockets; one on the top lid and one on the front panel. Our apologies for the mix up! We've reported the issue to our web team to hopefully have it updated and corrected. We've emailed you to gather some more information, thanks again for bringing this to our attention!

Favorite Backpack
Not only is the color amazing but this has become my favorite backpack, easily. I recently used it when I traveled and I loved the fact that I could fit a lot. I was able to keep my laptop safe, using the laptop pocket and pack everything I needed.
Great carryon (overhead) luggage or even underseat "personal item"
Feels closer to 30L than the rated 28L. There is a renamed version of this daypack in the new Fieldsmith line, hence the close-out pricing on this older version. Both old and new versions benefit, for air travel, from their efficient rectangular shape and a thinner than average 5" thickness, making it easier to spread out on top of other overh... Read Moreead bin luggage while still allowing the bin to close. I miss the dual top grab handles on this bag's cousin, the Linked, but 25L isn't enough for my longer, but still fast-and-light, overseas trips, plus I've gotten used to the lid pocket on this daypack (and the rain protection and extra security of putting a lid over the drawstring collar). Bottle slots, or rather the lack thereof here, are a mixed blessing - essential, for me, for an urban bag that isn't always rubbing against other overhead bin luggage, but problematic in the overhead bin where the fragile mesh gets torn and, from time to time, the rims of the bottle slots catch on the wheels of other overhead bags. So, overall, I'm ok that this daypack is missing bottle slots. 5" isn't very thick for a typical day pack (and of course 5" assumes sag-free, semi-rigid, compressible packing cubes), but it's great for last minute boarding when my overhead bag has to sit on top of a bunch of rollaboards and still allow the bin to close. Ditto on the simplified backpack straps with no sternum strap or waist-strap - as missing here, definitely a negative for extended urban carry, but the simplification is a positive during stowing and unstowing and connecting flight dashes. Plus fewer strap ends to get caught in crevices, or to dangle on the ground. The official measurements - 19x10.5x5 - are great in width and thickness in terms of underseat stowing (personal item), but the height exceeds all the carrier restrictions for underseat luggage I've seen. However, in a pinch and assuming moderate packing, this will stow underseat. The lid pocket is the handiest place to stow phones and powerbanks, and hence also the least secure from thieves; I can't offer a solution here. You'll be tempted to not use the drawstring for easier security access to your laptop through security, but post-security I'd recommend using it. My final sales pitch is simple: a 28L rectangular Arbor Lid (or Fieldsmith Lid now) will get the job done a lot cheaper than a 26L MLC, and hold more to boot; unless you need to look sharp to an executive picking you up, you'll save money with this Lid line vs. a compact version of the MLC.
I did not expect this to be a rugged hiking pack, but the quality of this pack so disappointing. Thin material and quality that I would not expect from Patagonia. Very disappointed with this purchase.
Thank you so much for writing this review Jesse! We also want to extend our sincere apologies for the quality issues you've encountered with this product. Please feel free to [return or repair](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) your item at any time as your satisfaction is always guaranteed when shopping with us.

Great bag!
You'll love this bag. Great fit, love the material, fits a ton of stuff. Looking forward to making it an every day product.
I have gotten so many compliments for my bag it's honestly insane. I love everything thing about it, i can also pack literally everything and the kitchen sink in it ! Only complaint I have about it is lack of side pockets, i feel like patagonia dropped the ball on that. Other than that it's a great bag for work or a small hike.
Looks nice, good size and well constructed. Can fit quite a bit of stuff. Wished the fabric on the bottom was reinforced a bit for long term durability though. Would also be nice if it had more storage pockets/dividers in the main compartment and a sternum strap would make it more comfortable.
As a student teacher and grad student I have like a million things to carry and this backpack fits them all and helps me keep everything organized. The smaller pockets are so spacious and I can fit all my little keys, lotions, wallet, pens and pencils types of things while the big pocket easily fits my giant binder, laptop, iPad, notebooks, lunch, ... Read Moreand a sweater. Even though it doesnt have side pockets, I attach my water bottle to the clippy straps using a carabiner and its perfect. Its a big pack but doesnt look super out of place at school. I love the colors and look!
The Arbor Lid Pack is stylish and durable. It held up great when traveling for two weeks, the straps were comfortable, and the pocket at the top was very useful for items that needed to be reached careful. As others have noted though, the pack really should have come with a bottle holder. Also, the size makes it less practical as a day-to-day pack.... Read More
I had bought the smaller version of this arbor back pack, previously - maybe 2 years ago. The things that bothered me about that specific purchase were 1) it wouldnt hold its structure and look like a sack 2) the straps were pretty uncomfortable.
So then I decided to return the back pack and use the credit towards a new bag. This 28L Arbor definit... Read Moreely resolves all the issues I had with the smaller Arbor. The one thing I feel like it lacks and could have been provided without losing on its minimalistic look is a pocket for a water bottle and if I was being super critical unnecessarily I do feel like the cord that you use to synch the bag closed is longer than needed (theres probably a really thoughtful reason for an outdoorsy person which I am not).
Hope the review helps! Love Patagonia and their mission.
This is a very handy Knapsack as it holds a lot. We needed it for a trip - and my husband was able to bring it on board the plane along with his carry-on suitcase.
I just needed an all around backpack that wasn't overcomplicated but also wasn't tiny - this fits the bill. More than enough room for school supplies (the padded pocket actually fits my laptop) or a day trip (be it to a hotel or the lake). I really like that the front pocket doesn't cut off at the zipper but instead runs almost the f... Read Moreull height of the pack. Just know that there aren't any built-in organizers like for pens, etc.
Love the size, the amount you can fit, the top and front zipper pocket. BUT it has no side water bottle pockets. I almost returned it just because of that reason because I always use those pockets way more than I thought I did.
Hey Talia, thanks for the review. You're correct that this pack does not have side panel water bottle pockets. You can check on the features of any item by going to it's product page and scrolling down to the tab labeled "Specs & Features". Under this tab you will find all kinds of information from fabric, to pockets, to dimensions, etc. We recommend checking out the [Refugio Daypack 30L](https://www.patagonia.com/product/refugio-daypack-30-liters/47928.html?dwvar_47928_color=AGPL&cgid=root) if you're looking for something that's a similar size but includes those water bottle pockets.

Surprisingly great
I needed a backpack for school/hiking and I loved the look of this bag but it didnt have side pockets and I couldnt tell how big the bag is. I love this bag! It's my designated climbing gym bag, but also big enough to take on a day trip out to the crag. It fits A LOT. I have to carry a fair bit of stuff around every day, and this is a really nice size for that. Keeps things dry when it rains. Good quality materials, put together well - feels like it will last.
