More mining and drilling in America's Arctic will push us away from a livable Earth and further into climate chaos. Right now, you can help protect our climate, local communities and biodiversity by asking our government to stop extraction in three areas under threat in Alaska.
If we have any hope of a thriving planet—much less a business—it is going to take all of us doing what we can with the resources we have. This is what we can do.
I have been a devout Stand up Short wearer for years. These are even better. These fit my build even better and are even more comfortable. Really like the pocket design and configuration on these shorts.
I’m someone who has worn only higher-tech shorts over more than a decade (tough nylon/poly/quick drying, lightweight, etc.). These newer tech fabrics have been amazing for all outdoor activities, for lots of international travel, and just for general comfort.
Because of this, buying tough, well-made, heavier cotton or cotton blend shorts simply h... Read Moreasn’t crossed my mind in forever. Then these shorts crossed my radar and piqued my interest, bringing back memories of great shorts from my younger years (I’ve somehow reached age 52!).
Eating too much of the standard American diet (SAD) over the last couple of years, I’ve gained weight and can’t fit into my entire wardrobe of 32” waist clothing right now. I’m sadly up to a solid 34” waist. I’ve seen quite a few comments about these shorts being a bit oversized (some slightly older reviews have even suggested they were undersized). I just ordered my current waist size and the fit is absolutely perfect. I almost always wear a belt regardless, and these shorts feel perfectly relaxed everywhere yet sized just right.
As far as the fabric. Wow! Just so comfy, just the right thickness to be rugged but not at all stiff. In fact, the fabric has a much softer feel than was expected. The fabric doesn’t wrinkle easily and the shorts are always looking great. No shrinking was noticeable after washing in warm water and throwing in the dryer on the normal cycle.
I personally tend to gravitate to longer-style shorts, so I love the 11” inseam, but these would work super well an inch or two shorter as well.
A last very important point for me is the pockets. I have assiduously stayed away from vertically slanted pockets for at least 15 years. I associated such style of pockets with allowing items to easily slip out when sitting or when reclining such as on an international business class flight (when I’m lucky enough to do so). Flying business or coach on your way to a different country is no time to be losing your wallet and phone. Second, I’ve associated vertically slanted pockets as an open invite for skilled pick pockets. So this design was one factor that almost prevented me from even trying these shorts.
I’m very happy to report that the pockets of these shorts are of excellent design! Very deep, well structured and sturdy. I have absolutely zero worry about anything slipping out even if lying down. A pick pocket would also have a hell of a time trying to inconspicuously swipe something.
So I just freaking love these shorts. So well designed, so comfortable with their fabric and relaxed fit, and they look great! In fact, after a week of wearing them every day, I ordered the other color and decided to write this review. I hope it is helpful! Now get out there and have some adventure!!
I like these shorts for work. Im a cabinetmaker and find the pocket on the right leg perfect for pencils and small tools. They are very long for my short legs. Had to shorten them a few inches. They also run a bit large in the waist but not excessively. Great large pockets and belt loops and very comfortable loose fit without being sloppy. Quite du... Read Morerable material too.
Material is adequate without being too thick. Length is perfect. Barn door is heavy duty. Only ding is pocket openings are too small for knuckles on size 12 hands. This is where wear will appear first.
I got these as I am a fan of hemp fabrics. The comfort, fit, and breathability of these shorts are spot on and make for great work shorts. I will be getting more of these.
Great quality short that I know i'll have for a lifetime. They're longer than I expected with an 11" inseam but that's fine. I'm normally a 32 but sized up to a 33 since I find Patagonia bottoms run tight in the waist. This was the right call, these shorts are very comfortable!
These are great all round shorts. The pockets are spacious compared to anything else out there. Recently, my hands were full and I put a bottle of beer in the front pocket and it was not crammed in there. If I had more money, my closet would simply be these.
These are great shorts for work and play. They fit comfortably and have freedom of movement with the gusseted crotch. The build quality and durability are high. I do wish they were available in a neutral gray that goes with anything.
I bought these for my son. The waist size is a little large but maybe they'll shrink a bit. The 11 inch shorts are pretty long for a 5'9 guy but the durability should be great for outdoor work.
If you love the the 12.9 oz Iron Forge 5-pocket Cargo shorts (which I intend to be buried in), .....you may be disappointed in these dramatically lighter-weight 9.6 oz All Seasons Hemp Canvas 5-pocket shorts. Same price, different shorts, lesser value.
I made the mistake so you don't have to.
We're sorry to hear that this purchase was disappointing. We designed the All Seasons series of products to work well in warmer environments while still holding up to the needs of our Workwear customers. Comfortable and utilitarian
I work as a handyman in Florida and thoroughly enjoy these shorts. They're tough, loose enough for airflow and the material is made to last. They look sharp with a tucked shirt. My complaint is they're cut a little long for my liking and run a little larger than expected. I'd love the same shorts cut two inches shorter.
The waist fits perfectly but the legs are so wide. They’re probably 50% too large.
And im not even a skinny person, i have big thighs.
I would be ashamed to wear it in public i would look ridiculous.
Im not sure yet if i will keep it to lounge in my apartment or if i will return it
We're sorry to hear the fit and sizing of our All Seasons Shorts have been disappointing. Like all of our Work Wear, these have been designed with movement in mind, and they have a relaxed fit. Please reach out to our [Patagonia-owned retail store location in your region](https://www.patagonia.ca/store-locator/). They'll be happy to help you with a return. Thanks Nicolas!
Ordered a 34" waist as I do in most Patagonia shorts/pants, just a bit large and went 33", much better. I have the cargo versions of this short and these are noticeably lighter and rarely used the cargo pockets, so great durable pair of all around shorts. Still have the cargos which are several years old with no signs of much wear.
I love this material and this length is great, coming to just above the knees. I can live in these shorts all summer long. The pockets are big and the fit is great. I really love the hemp canvas, it wears forever and keeps its general stiffness. Can't recommend them highly enough!
Great material, looser fit. Usually wear a 40-42 at the hip but needed a 44 for these. Pocket entry is a little tight if you wear a belt. Very solid short.
As a rural carrier for the USPS, I appreciate a fabric that wears well, looks good, and most importantly, feels good on the hot days. These shorts are perfect.
These shorts are perfect for those multi-day camping trips and get more comfortable by the day. The fabric is soft but tough. I'll be getting a couple more pairs of these!
Shorts are sturdy and fit well. From reading product description, I thought they would be all natural fibers. However, they include hemp, polyester, and cotton. I prefer 100% natural fiber, with 0 plastic. I would like to the website to describe products more clearly.
We appreciate your feedback and will pass this along to our web and product design teams. The "Specs & Features" section below each product calls out the fabric blend, but we will try to improve the prominence of that information in the future. We recommend our Stand Up Shorts or [Men's Scrap Utility Shorts](https://www.patagonia.com/product/mens-scrap-utility-shorts/57295.html), although they do have 1% spandex. We'll be happy to help you with a return of the Hemp Canvas 5-pocket Shorts!

32?
Well, they do not shrink.
Too bad, because the nominal 32 is closer to 34.

simple, sturdy
Simple long shorts in good old medium weight canvas. Mostly wearing around the house after work, so they should last forever. I usually wear 34 waist, but a 33 might have been better this time since it's available.

I've only had these hemp canvas shorts for a couple of weeks now and they have become my favorites. The weight of the fabric is terrific and they feel like they will last for years and years. Did I say they are very comfortable? I ordered my normal size and they are a bit loose, which for casual shorts are just fine.
I love the way these shorts feel and fit. But if you're not stocky / muscular, you'll want to size down. The fabric is just tough enough and super soft and comfortable. Pocket layout is great. Robust Pair of Shorts!
These are great shorts! The material is robust and will stand up to much abuse. I bought them because the primary component is sustainable hemp. Im a woodworker and have used the iron forge double knee pants since they came out. They are awesome. This my first pair with the hemp mix fabric. Its very comfortable and not too hot. Fits very well and nice minimalist, casual look. Relaxed style fitting is true as described. The shorts run a little big but for biking and working in them that's a plus. Super comfortable and a softer feel than Dickies or Carhartt worn in the past. Only problem.. they're going to outlive me!
I recently purchased the hemp cargo shorts with a 32 waist and liked them so I decided to buy the 5 pocket hemp shorts also in 32 for everyday wear. They are closer to a 34 waist. I continued to wear them as I liked everything except the waist size. I ordered 2 pairs in 31 waist and they fit closer to my normal 32 waist size.

Great material, Baggy fit
The material felt great and seems like it would be extremely comfortable but also sturdy for many years. Unfortunately, the fit was extremely baggy for my slim frame.
We appreciate your feedback. These shorts, like most of our Work Wear line, have a "relaxed" fit so you may wish to size down. We'll be happy to help you with a return or you can take your purchase to the [Patagonia-owned store in your area](https://www.patagonia.com/store-locator/). Another bomber product in the hemp blend fabric.
I wear Patagonia hemp work pants most of the time and am glad to have shorts available in the fabric, but wish that they were a 9" inseam rather than the 11, which hits right at my knees. I expect they will last a long time, so maybe I'll get used to the length.
So far, these shorts are holding up. They are immediately comfortable and will be rugged enough to handle the day to day abuse I dish out on the regular.
I love the work pants and am glad that Patagonia is making work shorts, however, I bought a few pairs of size 33 thinking they would fit like the pants. They are much bigger and not all the same size, I wish I had tried them on before washing them. I'm sure if they fit properly they would be my daily driver.
I can't lay on enough positive adjectives to explain how much I like this hemp fabric you made!!! This is my sixth Patagonia hemp item and I'm waiting on a another.

Comfort Plus
I am 5'11" and 175 lbs and struggle more and more to find shorts with an 11" inseam. Scary to think the trend is shorter shorts for guys. I like that Patagonia has expanded the work wear/ hemp line to shorts. They might feel heavy in a bag but once being worn, the weight disappears. The only two items I would change is 1. Awesome fabric and fit
These fit true to size and are good for an athletic build. Awesome fabric, color, and like that phone fits in the side pocket.
These feel great, and give you extra pockets without looking like cargo shorts.
I really hate the look of cargo shorts, but if you need pockets sometimes it's the best option. These give you an extra deep pocket which kinda solves that dilemma.
