Absolutely adore this fabulous jacket!!

Just the right weight for 3/4 seasons. OMG...Terrific, Packable, Layering for travels!! So light weight, and no pilling!! Like a sweater, but better!! I own several different colors and highly recommend!

Comfy

This is my second Patagonia down sweater...I wore the first one out. It is light weight and pretty warm, but not wind or water proof. I love this garment and wear it all the time in the fall, winter and spring.

Warm, But Too Big

It is light-weight and pretty warm. But, it is too big fit. It is recommended to buy one-size smaller than what you wear t-shirt from Patagonia.

Super warm and confortable

I have a lot (also my family) of Patagonia jackets and this one is one of the best i have. Also the warranty for life of Patagonia is incredible, i think there is no brand in the world that has this kind of warranty.

Great fit and Warm Coat

This coat is a must have. The fit is great, especially for taller men. The only comment, the photo for the item on line appeared darker and richer. The actual cost is a bit more gray and muted. However, overall a wonderful cost that looks sharp for work and is great to wear on hikes.

June 17, 2020

Perfect weight

Jacket is perfect wait to wear around town, slim design and not bulky. Perfect weight for hiking, this jacket will keep you warm on chilly to cold days.

So far so good

I havent got to use it since its the summer but it fits like a glove is really light and seems to be super warm. Overall Im very happy for right now

Practical and Tasteful Go-to Jacket

Use in place of a sweater or sweatshirt on cool days and evenings. Always pack it when traveling.

June 17, 2020

Very classy jacket

I already have several Patagonia jackets, and the quality is superb. Not sure why its called a sweater, because its warmer than my other jackets. Its perfect for winter wear when I want the warmth and a bit of class.

June 17, 2020

Size

Xl a little snug - xxl a little loose. Other wise the sweater is great. Probably should loose a few pounds and wear the xl size.

June 17, 2020

Fits like a square box

If you are Sponge Bob Square Pants, this jacket is for you. If, however, you're shaped like a normal human, skip this jacket. It fit like a square, short and wide, which is too bad bc it's the best color.

Great, but make the fit a bit roomier like it was before

Love, love this jacket, it seems to be the one I choose all the time in cold weather. But I must agree with those who say the fit is getting too slender. Another great piece from Patagonia! I just purchased this and it's already my new favorite jacket. The quality, material and feeling of the jacket is excellent. BOO HISS on the new slim fit!!

I bought this jacket four, maybe five years ago. It is probably my all time favorite Patagonia purchase. I love everything about it -- the quality, the weight and most importantly the FIT. And it's still going strong. In Feb 2020 I bought a second one in Peppergrass Green. Same size (M). The color did not disappoint. Unfortunately, the most im... It was like being zipped up into a straw (a re-useable one, of course). Some people may be able to size up to a large but I was not -- the fit was too boxy, arm length too long. UGH, Patagonia, why did you mess with a good thing? So disappointed. I returned it.

Great Jacket, but....

I bought this jacket in November and have been using it as my primary layer this winter with a sweater underneath. Decent down Sweater

Have an older model from ~3 years back but still good. It's a SWEATER meaning that it's lightweight so it's warm enough ~40-50F but when it reaches down freezing ~32F, wear it underneath a True Down garment like a jacket/coat. For warmer weather, the sweater can/is used as a lightweight jacket. Just remember the 'lightweight&#x2... Read More7; part! It does block out most of the wind and is relatively warm depending on the temperature. The shoulder areas are a bit tight but is roomy enough for you to wear a long sleeve base layer and a light-mid weight fleece underweath. It does get dirty just from wear especially if you have a bright colored version as mine is red. Wash on delicate cycle with warm water and dry low or fluff with a few balls to puff it back up. May have to fluff it a bit. If you don't have a down wash, using Woolite is fine but just use a little, even with some baking soda. Buy it when it's on sale as it's pricey otherwise.

Like a Warm Hug

I thought I would add a POSITVE review as it seems like only those with problems write reviews on this site. I have had mine for almost 2 years and wear it daily in any weather between -7 and +5C (20-40F)--about 100 days a year. It has held up extremely well and honestly looks as good as the day I bought it. I am a Medium in all my jackets and this... Read More one fits bang-on. If anything, it is a more trim, flattering fit than my other Patagonia jackets which tend to be a bit baggy in the mid-section. You will still be able to wear a reasonable mid-layer under this and the bonus is that it looks great for urban use. The zippered hand-pockets, large internal chest pocket, and drawstring at the hem are nicely executed. If there is a con, it is that the outer material is slightly shiny (but not objectionable, by any means): this probably contributes to its ability to shed light precipitation very well. For reference, I am 1.70m, 65 kg, 33" waist.

Perfect Jacket

I have a HARD to shop for dad, who is very particular about cuts and fabrics and breathability etc. He LOVES this jacket, and said it protected him perfectly from the wind on a walk in the neighborhood. He also said it’s the perfect amount of warmth on a Brisk California winter day. I would highly recommend.

Excellent fit and function, but not super durable

Great warmth, not very durable I’ve had this jacket for about two and a half years. If I had to get it again, I would definitely get it with the hood however. My big complaint: it started to wear out super fast. From the beginning I was having to pull feathers back into the coat. it soon developed holes in the lower sleeves around the forearm and wrist, eventually extending halfway up the arm to the elbow. I’ve been on top of it with tenacious tape, but the problem still grows. The next area to develop holes was along the waist cuff, especially where the draw string bunches the fabric. I would gladly add a few ounces of weight for a more durable product. Unless you are just planning on wearing this jacket to go shopping at Whole Foods and attend mountain film festival showings, I would expect it to wear out fast.

Super warm and lightweight, actually found myself too warm in a lot of situations (but that's me and not the jacket). After I washed it it lost a lot of its bulk. This jacket is super comfortable to wear, and you have excellent mobility in it. I never feel restricted in my movement. My only qualms: I'm not a fan of the drawstrings the pockets. They don't hold and get in the way. Would prefer the traditional placement at the hem. Also, the fit is a little boxy. The hem is tight below the hips,so it rides up quickly. But that might just be my frame. Overall,a perfect do-everything mid-layer.

Great all around jacket for a Minnesota winter.

I bought this jacket two months ago at the beginning of winter up here in Duluth,Minnesota. So far the jacket is outstanding for everyday use. It keeps me warm when commuting to and from work, shopping, etc. The warmth for something so light is incredible. However,I would suggest either buying a warmer jacket or using a shell for those days when temp... Read Mores hit -10 fahrenheit or below. For running errands or going from the garage to the truck and then into work it is great but for any outdoor standing or light walking the jacket is a little light for temps 10 below zero or lower. That being said, for running or fat biking in the cold the jacket provides great protection while being lightweight. If you are looking for a great everyday jacket for winter in Minnesota I would say go for it. Keep in mind I usually wear multiple layers to work,t shirt, dress shirt, and a light sweater, dressing in this manner is a matter of habit in the winter up here and the jacket is perfect for this layering. Even for casual wear I always have a sweatshirt or light fleece on during the winter and this jacket is perfect for this type of dress. If you plan on only wearing a tshirt with this jacket below zero you would be chilly. Obviously this jacket is not a waterproof shell but it does repeal snow, even melting snow, and it does offer some wind resistance. As far as size; I am 5'9" 175 with an athletic, but lean, build. I was right between a medium and large. I chose to go with the large because I wanted to wear this jacket with sweaters, sweatshirts and other heavy layers. If you want to wear this jacket as a layer or with only a t-shirt or thermal under it then I would go with a medium. If you plan to use it as an everyday go to jacket then I would suggest upsizing to accommodate heavier clothing. The medium was roomy through the shoulders but tight in the core and waste with was not conducive to wearing heavier layers. Overall this is a great jacket, the quality is sensational. I get compliments everytime I wear this jacket. I highly recommend it.

January 11, 2017

Perfect for what I need it to be

Lightweight and warm. Good between 40 and 10 degrees. Perfect as an outer layer most of the time and under a shell when the temp drops into the low teens and single digits. Fits trim without being too tight. Would definitely recommend.

Keeps me warm

Although it fits a bit snug for a size small around the waist, there is ample room in the arms and chest. I often feel this is comfy and quite warm compared to my Canada Goose.

Disappointed with Down Sweater

About six years ago I purchased a Down Sweater and it has been one of my two or three all-time favorite Patagonia items. My old one has fit perfectly since day one,so I ordered another large. Imagine my incredible surprise when I received it,tried it on,and it was clearly WAY too small! I called Patagonia, explained the problem, and they quickly sent a replacement. When I asked about the size issue,I was told that sizing had been changed. What? Was that really necessary? Okay,so now I have an XL,but the jacket, while it fit,was longer in the torso, seemed heavier, and was a bulkier fit. To make matters worse, the first cold day I wore it,my elbows got cold: I could not feel much insulation in the elbows; clearly a quality control problem. I wore the jacket off and on during the winter, but I just was never happy with it (partly because I kept wanting it to be the same as my old one, which it clearly was not). I have been buying Patagonia clothing since 1979,when I bought my first fleece jacket at the Eastern Mountain Sports in North Tonowanda,NY. I have worn Patagonia clothing back-country skiing on all of the High Peaks of the Adirondack Mountains, atop Whiteface Mountain where I once did acid rain research,on a five-month sea kayak expedition around the perimeter of the Gulf of Maine,on stage with Garrison Keillor and A Prairie Home Companion,to Antarctica, and in in daily life. It has always fit well and performed well. This is the first piece I have ever been disappointed with (not a bad track record,Patagonia!). I hope I just got a fluke. Absolutely Perfect

Over the years I've tried down jackets for many purposes and from many different companies and I can always tell how good or how well a down jacket is made by the first time you put it on. If you get warm 'immediately' when you put it on without having to do a 20 jumping jacket, then it's a good jacket. This down sweater is not only warm,it's definitely the best in it's class. Patagonia still makes their clothes way to big for me. I had to go one size down. I'm 5/11 and weigh 150 pounds and the small was perfect. I usually wear a medium in every other brand of clothing. It's cut close to fit so it looks very stylish. The collar is snug when you zip it all the way and I appreciate the drawcord hem at the bottom of the jacket to keep warmth that you gain from the down from seeping out. What I have found with all down jackets is that if lose air through the waste, wrist or neck, then you defeat the purpose of having down jackets. I worked for many winters in -30 C weather and found out that simple things like putting a small rubber band on the end of the sleeve around the wrist do wonders for trapping warm air in the jacket. I love this jacket and feel it is extremely well made and it has given me a re-newed faith in Patagonia's down jackets.

Size Issue

I love the down sweater and wear it all winter. I do have an issue with the apparent change in the sizing. I bought mine a number of years ago and it's still in excellent condition. So I bought an XL and thought I'd pass my L down to my son. But the new XL turned out to be materially smaller than my L. Super comfortable

This jacket is pretty great. Super warm for anything that isn't subzero temps and the fit is perfect for layering. I usually wear tees under my down jacket when it's anything warmer than 25F and I feel great.

Performed as expected on Cactus to Clouds

This jacket works great for approaches to climbing crags in colder climates as well as treks where size and weight matters. Stuffs and compresses well with minimal effort. Versatile

Patagonia got the fit of this year's down sweaters just right! This regular fit down jacket feels comfy and cozy, but not restrictive. I like to wear the down sweater on cold mornings at work, but also layered under an outer shell while skiing. It is such a versatile piece.

Almost great

Ethical materials, high quality down, great warmth for a diversity of climates, and a nice color selection. But for the price, the finishing isn't quite there. Preliminary thoughts on the Down Sweater

I purchased this jacket on November 6, 2015. Temp in Ventura was a sunny 77 degrees but I still made the purchase. This is my first Patagonia purchase item and used the Ventura store to do so. California I've not had many chances to use the jacket but I did take my Lab for a walk one night with wind and cool temps and only a t-shirt on and the jacket was awesome! I can hardly wait for the temps to get colder and El Nino to come. I feel ready. I bought a Large, Black. I'm 5' 9" 195# which I have plenty of room for a t-shirt and a flannel shirt underneath which was still comfortable to move around in. I'll post future reviews as I use this jacket but I am so far happy I purchased this jacket. Thanks Patagonia and Shane!

Great jacket with a caveat

Finally got one of these and I'm pretty happy with it. Very warm. Very light. Very cool looking. I'm 5'9" and about 215 lb and the large fits great. As well as 20degree weather with a fleece base and it kept me very warm. Pairing this garment with a nice base and a waterproof shell- It's unbeatable. Makes me look forward to winter

This coat is fantastic. It is very lightweight, unlike previous winter coats I have had. That being said, it is still incredibly warm. These holes are incredibly small, but the more I've worn it, the more they appear. I have only had this coat for one winter so far. I highly recommend this coat if you're looking for a light winter coat to stay warm and look good though, but I wouldn't recommend doing anything crazy in it.

I've owned two of these coats in the years and live in the frigid Midwest where temps reached -18 F last year...not including the windchill factor. This coat is very lightweight and exceptionally warm in temps down to approx. 15 degrees F with a wool base layer. It's great for having to run in

Excellent, Versatile Insulation Piece

I purchased my Down Sweater eight months ago and without any exaggeration, it is my favorite piece of clothing I've ever purchased. It's ridiculously comfortable, durable for its weight, and offers the perfect level of insulation, performing flawlessly during everyday cold-weather activities and even pulling its weight when the thermomete... Read Morer dips below freezing. [COMFORT] The Down Sweater is very comfortable worn over a baselayer or just a T-shirt. The fabric is smooth and comfortable next to skin, and the microfiber kissing-welt zipper garage at the neck makes a world of difference, eliminating any irritation that you would find on similar products without this feature. The piece is incredibly lightweight as well, so you never feel weighed down; if you could wear a cloud, it would feel like this. [DURABILITY] I am quite impressed with the durability of the Down Sweater as well. There have been absolutely no signs of wear and tear from everyday use (and I have worn this piece almost every day for at least 6 of the 8 months I've owned it). But the piece seems to stand up to harsher treatment as well. While on a film set this past February, I was cutting a piece of foil and accidentally caught my Down Sweater against the serrated foil cutter. The serrations pulled a few pieces of down out from under the fabric and it looked as though I'd totaled my jacket, but after brushing the few clusters of down out of the way, I found that the serrations had barely affected the ripstop nylon leaving only an almost invisible pull in the fabric. Very impressive. The only slight complaint I have in terms of durability has to do with the stretchy fabric used to cap the sleeves. The fabric is quite thin, looks fragile, and appears to be sewn on very delicately. While I haven't had any real problems with it yet, the fabric has started to pill, and I imagine these pieces would be the first to fail on the otherwise durable jacket. I wish the sleeves on this piece had been finished in the same manner as the Fitz Roy jacket. [INSULATION] I wore this piece every day for the four winter months I spent in New York this year and was continually impressed by its insulating capabilities (from 15'F to 55'F, blizzards to cool mornings), even with just a T-shirt underneath. Because they use top-of-the-line 800 fill-power down, Patagonia was able to maximize down's legendary warmth-to-weight ratio in this jacket, achieving an incredibly light piece that still maintains excellent insulative properties. In my opinion the piece offers the perfect balance; it kept me comfortably warm even below freezing, but I never felt as though I was overheating even in mild 50-60'F temperatures. I think the best way to describe the feeling is that the Down Sweater kept me at my normal body temperature through a huge range of conditions, reliably dispelling the cold, but never making me feel hot. The piece continues to perform above and beyond my expectations, and knowing that every cluster of down keeping me warm is ethically sourced provides peace of mind that few other companies can match. Overall, I cannot recommend the M's Down Sweater enough. It offers incredible comfort across a huge range of temperatures and conditions. I probably wouldn't recommend it for anything colder than 15'F, but for most situations in which the average person might find himself, the Down Sweater performs above and beyond the call of duty.
