Ms Dual Aspect Jacket

One of a kind

Searched high and low for a piece that could accommodate rain and wind protection in the wet and windy Columbia River Gorge of PNW. I love everything about the jacket but especially the hood and neck. Its the only piece Ive found that has this combination of adjustments, high neck and rimmed visor. The only complaint is the chest zippers constantly... Read More get stuck on the pocket outer fabric

Bomber Construction

Last year I purchased the Dual Aspect bibs and fell in love with them over the ice climbing season. Recently purchased the Dual Aspect jacket to have a 100% PFC free alpine kit. I have already used the jacket in downpours with high aerobic output - and generally speaking I am impressed. The material is sturdy but on the lighter end of a hardshell w... Read Morehich is my sweet spot for high output days. The dual aspect series shells are the sustainable choice for hardworking alpine gear. Ice & mix climbing to booting couloirs and steep skiing this jacket (and bibs) can handle it all. I could see the fit being slightly loose fitting for some but for me its perfect. I have broad shoulders and a large provides me with enough room for layers underneath without being tight.

Have the sleeves gotten longer?

Originally ordered a medium, as I have with 2 past versions of this jacket (going back to the Ice Nine). The sleeves were clownishly long and fit was overall large and long so returned for small. The small fits but would not allow much in the way for layering in winter.

Incredible Jacket

I replaced a Calcite with this jacket. Probably overkill for most of my use but all the zippers, huge pit zips and double zipper make it incredibly ventilated while keeping dry.

Great fit, color, and features

I purchased this piece primarily for the cut. I am a tall lanky build and I have a hard time finding products that fit me well. The dual aspect has longer sleeve length and a trimmer cut than most. On top of that, the design of the jacket is great. The pockets positioning is nice, then synch adjustments on the waist are easy to use, the the goods f... Read Moreits nicely over a ski helmet.

Nice Jacket

To me this is a trim fit. I have room for a base layer and a down sweater underneath. It is nice and light, doesn't leak, and fits well with no binding with movement. The hood fits well and stays up without needing to be fastened tightly. I appreciate the high handwarmer pockets that are accessible with a pack waist strap fastened.

Lightweight, warm and dry

Very light, breatheable and keeps you warm and dry.

Wanted to Love This Jacket, but...

There were technical flaws. I loved the two-way zipper option, allowing easy access to underlayer pockets. However, my purchase resulted in a full refund as I experienced two zipper failures with this jacket. On both occasions, the zipper jammed. With the first jacket, I brought it in-store with a highly-skilled repair team, and they were able to f... Read Moreix it. However, that zipper eventually jammed again, which resulted in a replacement with the same jacket. The replacement zipper also jammed (after only the second time wearing it). All the other aspects of this jacket were fantastic, and I loved the smolder blue color. I was very disappointed to have to return it, and I look forward to purchasing something similar in the future, as I genuinely love Patagonia products.

Hi Stephen! Thank you for taking the time to write us a review on the Dual Aspect Jacket. We're incredibly sorry to hear about the experience you had with the zippers getting jammed repeatedly. We take this very seriously and we'll share this feedback with our design team.

Solidy designed and executed uninsulated shell

I bought large so there would be plenty of room for layers. So far this seems to work perfectly for my purposes which range from casual to fairly hard core. Can't speak to durability yet.

The jacket fits snuggly but

The jacket fits snuggly but I can still fit a hoody and light puffy underneath. The sleeves are long, which felt strange at first but works well for snugging around gloves. Zippers are a bit stiff. Location and size of the pockets seems fine, though would be nice to have an inside pocket. I like how the hood fits over a climbing helmet. So far have... breast pockets are awful

This jacket would be great if it wasn’t for the awful design of the breast pockets. Whereas all the other pockets feature waterproof zips, Patagonia has taken the inexplicable decision to use flaps for the two breast pockets. The result is that the zipper catches on the weather flaps making them difficult to open and close with one hand, an importa... Read Morent feature on a climbing jacket. It’s also just really annoying. If you intend on spending this kind of money, I’d recommend getting a jacket with waterproof zips.

Ultimate Ice Climbing Shell

I have just completed 40 days of ice guiding this season so far, and I wore the Dual Aspect jacket everyday! It stayed deep in my harness waist belt due to its climbing-focused cut and extra long waist. With my arms reaching far above my head, there is still no tug of the jacket at the harness waist belt. Mind literally blown! This meant I could ha... Read Moreve all the weather protection of a hardshell with the fit of a softshell. I could have waterproofness and windproofness with proper fit and mobility. Definite game changer as far as I am concerned! I did long approaches in it, -38C days in it, multi-pitch ice routes in it, M7 mixed routes in it. It has become my favourite jacket for ice guiding. For me the selling features are the long waist, supple material and underarm gussets for great reach without lifting the body of the jacket. The added bonuses are four streamlined pockets, non-bulky pitzips, generous roomy helmet hood and slim wrist cuffs. I also appreciate the environmental fact that it has a 100% recycled nylon ripstop face and does not contain perfluorinated chemicals. The concealed RECCO reflector in the hood brim is a nice addition too. I plan to wear the Dual Aspect for the next 40 days of my ice guiding season, and I would highly recommend it for ice, mixed, alpine climbing and even backcountry skiing.

almost there

For an upcoming iteration of the Dual Aspect I wish it would come in a light grey or black color. That for looks. For reliability I wish Patagonia would improve the cuff velcro like competitor premium brands do pretty well. Both this jacket and the former Galvanized Jacket share the same problem, the velcro cuffs come undone while swinging the arms... Read More close to the body. I also wish the two way front zipper would be thicker and smoother just like other premium brand jacket. Remember we use this jacket with gloves and in cold weather. As for fabric and waterproofness, I love the protection and comfort of the H2No membrane compared to competitive PFC products. This jacket is full of cleverly placed features but needs a revision. I hope this review is helpful and thanks for making beautiful products, Patagonia.

Awesome jacket

This thing is great. Kept me dry when my dog accidentally pulled me into a creek! It also cuts the wind even when exposed on the top of a 20m tower. Wish it came with glove pockets on the inside though..

Great winter jacket

Great weight, lots of mobility, awesome shell for layering making it a multiple season jacket.

June 20, 2022

Great quality

I'm a big fan of this shell. I wanted a do-it-all jacket that would work for climbing but that I could also take ski touring in the winter, and has a simple design that I can wear around town without thinking twice. It's light and packable but feels quality. A big thing for me in a product are zippers, i've had too many jackets where... Read More the zipper fails or get sticky and are tough to close. The jacket is good but a little small and snug in the waist area!!

This one does it all for me

I am 6'0" and 175-180 lbs. I tried the large and it was just too big. I chose the medium and am still able to comfortably layer the Silent Down Jacket underneath. Perfect. I love everything about the Dual Aspect Jacket. Lots of pockets conveniently located everywhere, recessed velcro at the cuffs, 2-way zipper, longer cut, stretchy, a hoo... Read Mored I can flip up over my helmet, with cord locks that are top notch. I plan on using this for everything - hiking, backpacking, back country skiing, downhill skiing, and just plain old walks in the rain. I've been looking for years for something like this. So, when Patagonia sent me the email to write a review, they said they wanted the review to help them improve their product, so if I absolutely had to think of SOME way to improve the product, I would suggest 2 things: first, it would be nice if there was a way to cinch down the hood when you're going face first into a driving rain and still be able to tilt your head back and look up above you without having to fight the constant tension of the cinched hood making you want to just look at your feet. An improvement to the freedom of motion. That's the first one. The second one would be some way to quickly roll up the jacket, perhaps into its hood, cinch it into a tight package (with the hood cinch cords?), and clip it to my pack exterior. Just saying, if I HAD to think of something....! :) Nicely done Patagonia!

This jacket is a tank

This is what I needed for winter biking and hiking along with a light fleece mid-layer. I am 5'7" and this felt a little long but the Small was too small. I like that the zip is bidirectional and that made it perfect for being hunched over a bike.

Fits Well, Looks Svelt

Was convinced that I needed Gore-Tex and wanted to love the Triolet jacket - but alas I returned it for this Dual Aspect. It fits well and wears much nicer all around. Hood fits great, with or without helmet, doesn't obstruct sight (Triolet seemed to bunch up and stay in my way). Can't speak to durability - as I just purchased today.

H2 Absoloutely No!

Okay I haven't pushed the jacket too hard yet but I am really impressed with the early performance.
