If we have any hope of a thriving planet—much less a business—it is going to take all of us doing what we can with the resources we have. This is what we can do.
This is a great looking jacket. It is light and warm, but it is extremely fragile and after only two months it is showing major signs of wear. I have ripped it twice, both in circumstances that I think most normal nylon materials would fared much better. After only 2 months of wear, the fabric looks very warn with threads sticking out and down seep... Read Moreing though the seams. It's great Patagonia is using more sustainable materials, but this one just doesn't hold up.

Great layer as insulation or secondary/"shell"
Have had a few of these iterations over the years (puffs/nanos/sweaters etc. with and without hood) and all have been really good and as suggested in product descriptions but this one ran long and unlike the others not as expected relative to size charts/expectations...had to pass down to my son who is 6" 3"...fit him perfectly relative t... Sizes on Patagonia and too large
Purchased 1/23 and ordered a medium based on the size recommendation. The sleeves and body are both too long and I am 5'9. Should have gone with the small which is out of stock...bummer. It's a beauty of a coat!
We're sorry to hear the sizing and fit of this jacket didn't work for you. It's also a great idea to join the waitlist for a size and color you want, in case we get more inventory. Super warm, super light
Incredible warmth to weight ratio. Fits well across the shoulders. I've been comfortable in this jacket with just a t-shirt down to high 40s. Hard to believe its made of sugar cane!
If you compare this to a traditional down sweater hoody from this season.. it fits a little smaller in the chest. The sleeves fit better tho (more natural sleeve length) the elastic cuffs on this jacket are amazing. My sleeves never portray into my hands. The jacket also runs a little longer then the traditional down sweater hoody. I only ever noti... Read Morece it tho when Im getting in and out of a car. Then I realize the length goes past my butt lol. 5/5 stars. In my opinion this is better then the down sweater hoody because of the lockdown feel you have in the cuffs.

I was stoked about this jacket, but the sizing is not comparable to other down sweaters. I wear a medium in virtually every Patagonia option and this jacket went past my butt cheeks like a long parka.
Super bummed that the fit wasnt aligned with the fit of my down sweater, or the regular down sweater hoody I had to settle for. This blue is super ... Read Morecool looking in person, the chest pocket would be ideal, and I got a kick out of how the logo was a little different looking.
YMMV
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review and we are very sorry to hear about the disappointment you had with this products sizing and fit. Our new SugarDown Hoody is about 2 inches longer than our Down Sweater Hoody, so if you want something a bit shorter, we would recommend sizing down. Weird fit
The jacket looks great and fits well everywhere except the bottom hem. It is much smaller and tighter than other products like the Down Sweater, I assume because Patagonia didn't want to use plastic for a draw cord, so they just made the hem smaller. This might work for some, but if you're someone who doesn't skip leg day this will n... Read Moreot work for you. The bottom hem won't fit over my butt, so it rides up awkwardly and makes the whole jacket look odd. The fit everywhere else is perfect, otherwise I would go for a larger size. Sadly this one has to go back. I hope in a future iteration they increase the size of the bottom hem and figure out a way to include a sustainable draw cord.
Thank you for submitting this review, Mike. We're sorry to hear that hemline didn't fit you properly! We haven't stopped making drawcords; this model just doesn't feature one. For a wider hemline you might be happier with the Down Sweater Hoody, as you mention (the sweep in that size is an inch larger). Please let us know if we can help you find an alternative!

Sugar down hoody, Absolute perfection.
Super amazing Patagonia quality. Love this jacket. I own many down sweater jackets, vests and hoodies. This is like that but alittle better. Chest pocket is perfect and it has a mild parka bottom. Highly recommend.
I purchased this for my son as a gift and he loves it! I was concerned that you recommended a size S, but he loved the fit, the chest height zip pocket, the color, the weight, the environmentally friendly components, and even the fit of the hood! Thank you for wonder products and philosophy!
I've worn this jacket in temps ranging from -30 to 50 and it worked well and kept me warm in all of them. I'm not usually a hood person but knew I needed a coat with one and find this extremely comfortable. They've thought of everything with the materials used where it contacts your neck/face and it's a perfect fit all around.

A few notes: while it's "compressible" this is not a packable coat. I wasn't expecting that and suppose I can use a dry sack or something to pack it temporarily when needed. I've also found a decent fold method where I can pack it up in the hood. The zipper is reversed from any other coats I've owned including other Patagonia coats. The zipper runs up the left side, not the right as is more traditional. Takes a few zips to get used to.
This jacket keeps me toasty for days in the 30s. I think it'll work jut great for 20 degree days as well. Fits great IMO with it not being too tight, too loose or bulky.
This large jacket fits just a tad larger than my large nanopuff jacket but a lot warmer. I figure I can wear a sweater underneath without issue.
I love that this light jacket blocks the wind so well while reflecting heat back to fight the effects of freezing wind it makes my job so much more comfortable. I also appreciate that the chest pockets are appropriately sized for their most likely use, a cellphone, unlike some of their other hooded midlayers. The down does creep out a bit, but I su... Great for working on Canadian wind farms in the winter.
Awesome jacket with chest pockets that are suitable for any sized cellphone unlike some of their other mid layers which either have to small a pocket or none at all. I was a bit nervous taking a chance on this given that it was not the down sweater but I could not have been happier, the color is a bit darker in than in the picture which I actually loved! Its more of a darker blue than lighter. The fit was amazing, I am 5'11/6'0 and weigh about 178. The jacket came just below the waist which is what I ... Read Morewanted. I can wear it with a t-shirt under it or a hooded sweatshirt under it. I also am very happy with the outside chest pocket, I prefer this although some may not. Overall very pleased, would recommend.
Only had this for a few days but wanted to share initial thoughts for others because there's not a lot of info out there yet.
So far, I am LOVING this jacket. The XL fit is excellent on my 6'8" self, nice and long on the torso and the sleeves comfortably hit my wrists. I tried the new Down Sweater, and while it's super plush an... Read Mored warm, it's also a little loose and baggy throughout. The SugarDown feels more fitted through both the chest and tummy, and while it has less down than the Sweater, the better fit has it not feeling any less warm. FWIW, my XL weighs 374g.
The elasticized wrists fit much better than the Sweater. There's no drawcord on the hem, but it's perfectly snug so I don't miss it. Hood is also non-adjustable, but it's much smaller than the Sweater hoody so it's not an issue- I'd equate the fit to that of the Nano Puff hood.
The new material feels great to the touch, and though it's 12-denier, it feels plenty durable enough for everyday wear.
Couple issues- the SugarDown stuffs into the chest pocket, but there's no internal zipper in the pocket and no carabiner loop. Also, this is the first Patagonia jacket I've worn that has the zipper pull on the left side, not sure why the change but it's not that big a deal.
Overall I'm very happy with the SugarDown thus far and looking forward to a lifetime of adventures with it. And of course I'm stoked with how Patagonia has raised the bar in sustainability.
