Not strong material

Wetsuits is very warm, but the material is not strong. Zipper broke two winters in a row. My wetsuit was ripped different areas and zipper broke after one winter. I sent it to Patagonia and they fixed it for free, which was nice. But the zipper broke again this past winter and I havent sent it back yet.

Hello Mayuko, thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear the issues you've run into with your wetsuit. Our warranty is a bit different when it comes to our wetsuits, we do not accept returns after the wetsuit has been used in the water. With that said, sometimes we do make exceptions. We recommend connecting with our wetsuit repairs team at wetsuitrepairs@patagonia.com for more information.

significant improvement from previous seasons

I was reluctant to purchase another Patagonia wetsuit after having two separate suits fall apart within one season (I surf 2-3 days a week and take good care of my suits). Most recently, the taped seam of an ankle in an R2 started to fall apart after my first session in it. I noticed in this suit there is more reinforcement around the ankle cuff se... Read Moreams but I still heard a stitch pop putting it on for the first time, so we will see how it holds up. This suit is easier to get in and out of than in previous seasons which is nice but I am not a fan of the neck gasket. It creates extra tension around my throat which is uncomfortable and it is difficult to reach to pull over my head. However, there was no flushing at all which was awesome. The mobility in the shoulder has improved, I noticed this suit is taking a lot less time to break in than the previous versions which is awesome! Last, this suit is warm!! I am surfing in 50-55 degree water and have been comfortable! I haven't recommended this suit to a friend because the price point is high and I'm not sure if the durability has improved, that combo is typically not worth it.

Restricted size choices for women

I am incredibly disappointed at patagonias sizing, particularly for womens wetsuits. There are only 5 sizes available for women, that shockingly only go up to size 12, and 10 sizes for men, of all different combinations. Women with medium and big bodies also surf and cold water swim, so please get with the program and make bigger sizes.

FAULTY ZIPPER

I really wanted to love this suit- it's super warm, fits perfectly... but within weeks of using my wetsuit the zipper broke off completely. Patagonia did their due diligence and sent me a replacement for free. Less than a year after receiving it, with light usage, the ZIPPER BROKE AGAIN. Patagonia... I love you and everything you stand for but... Read More why do you make wetsuits with zippers that break? One of the most important part of a wetsuit is the zipper- you can't use the wetsuit if the zipper is broken. Please keep making this suit but with a durable zipper.

Great after stretching it out

I got this suit in 2020 and almost returned it because it was SO tight in the arms, chest, and neck even though it should have been the correct size. (Note: I have heard that the cut has been improved since then.) 5+ sessions later it was still an issue, so I stretched it out by stuffing the arms with giant peanut butter jars for a few hours at a t... Read Moreime and that really helped. I also sent it in to Patagonia to get a hood added for $40, and it is nice and toasty. Their warranty is the best. I have a R4 from 2015, which I sent in for repair and they restitched every seam and completely replaced several panels (for free, including shipping)! Thank you!

Great winter suit, but not for tall people

This is a great suit, perfect for SoCal winter. Great for someone who gets cold easily. But like my other Patagonia clothes, its too short. I order a larger size for the torso to fit and its still short. Patagonia: women need tall sizes too!

Warm and Comfortable

Initially I loved the women's R3 design. It was easily the warmest and best fitting suit I'd had in a long while. I've had several Rip Curl Flashbomb 5/4 & 4/3 front zips (E4 and E5 series, pre-sale to Kathmandu) and they were also awesome/comparable in durability and warmth to his wetsuit. One complaint I do have is the Patagoni... Read Morea R3 really only worked well for 1 season in Maine. Granted, I am a surfer & surfing instructor so I used this suit for maybe 100 hours which feels like a lot. Toward the end of the 2nd spring/summer/fall season, the underarm seams (blind stitch and liquid tape) gave out. The tear became so severe from wear that a quarter sized hole developed allowing water to flush the suit at any given moment. This tear also caused a sort of painful welt under my arm from all the rubbing while paddling. I've never experience this with any other suit and I am certainly a caretaker + longevity wearer of wetsuits. They're not cheap! I'm sending this suit in for repair because structurally it is in great condition otherwise. Some tearing around the neck panel because it is tight around the shoulders. Fits well everywhere else. It is tough being a woman and finding a good fitting stock wetsuit. I would say the R3 is likely one of the best quality suits on the market today and I am hesitant to buy anything else thanks to the corporate holds on the other major brands. They just don't look or feel that nice anymore and I simply struggle to trust them with my dollar or wellbeing in colder conditions. Considering an R4 for cold water & winter use.

Warm and flexible

Easy enough to get on, no water gets in (especially when duck diving because of the pullover neck part), super flexible

Great suit; very warm; made for short people

Great suit, very warm; the neck was really tight when first purchased, almost returned the suit because the neck was so tight but it loosened up after a couple of times in the water; Arms and legs are too short for me because of my height, and the waist and hips are a little loose; but couldn't go down a size because of the neck and length. It... Read More would be great if you could add a tall option for women, like you have for the men's suits; there are other brands out there that fit my body type better but I wanted to choose Patagonia because of the quality and sustainability.

Worth Every Penny

I was skeptical when reading reviews on sizing. I am 56 120 with wide hips and chest so I am typically between sizes and depending on brand I am either a 6 or 8 in wetsuit. I ordered a size six and was terrified it would be too small based on reviews. To my surprise, it fits perfectly and the break in process was a breeze. So far so good and 10/10 ... Read Morerecommend if you want a neoprene free suit that is well made and comfortable! I live in socal and think the R3 will be a my go to for surfing and diving. Keep in mind- wetsuit sizes are not sized in your standard US sizing so dont be discouraged. If you wear a 0 or 2 you may be a size 6-8 in wetsuit depending on measurements.

Awesome!

I may not be the best person to review a wetsuit since this is the first Ive had. That being said, I love it!! It fits me great. I am cold natured (kind of a baby) and this suit keeps me very warm.

Nice but fit didn't work for me.

Love the material and it fit pretty well but too short for me. If they made a tall size it would have worked for me. I am 5'9 and 148 lbs. The ten fit but on larger side. I would probably fit an 8T or 10T.
