Made from our trusted Black Hole® fabric, the MLC® (Maximum Legal Carry-On) is undoubtedly the toughest, most travel-impervious travel bag you’ll ever stuff into an overhead bin. Soft-sided and cleanly designed, this versatile bag holds 3 to 5 days’ worth of clothes, opens like a book for easy packing and meets airline carry-on size requirements so you can get in and out as fast as possible. An internal, padded sleeve holds most 17" laptops and doubles as a clothing organizer. The main compartment features two separate pockets for easier packing, access and organization. A second zippered pocket keeps shoes separate from clothing. Two exterior pockets organize the essentials and include features to hold keys, electronics, travel documents, wallet and phone. Multiple carrying options include a padded shoulder strap that can be worn on one shoulder or across the chest, bandolier style; zip-away, ergonomic shoulder straps that convert the MLC to a backpack so you can easily make a sprint through crowds; and top and side handles for a briefcase carry. An integrated docking sleeve slides over telescoping wheeled luggage handles. Made from 13-oz 450-denier polyester ripstop (50% solution-dyed) with a TPU-film laminate and a DWR (durable water repellent) finish.

Water Resistant

DWR (durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Bag Purchased this bag, Black Hole MLC 45L recently and I am taken back with all the space and pockets this bag has. I use the handle and shoulder strap. On a trip I noticed another zipper which concealed the shoulder straps. Yes, 3 ways to carry. I have always purchased high end luggage (Rimowa) $$$ but they don't have anything as cool as this bag! Thank you Patagonia for such an amazing bag. Side Note, I am a Vietnam combat Vet, Tet 68' and was surprised to see a label, "Made in Vietnam," in the bag. Good for you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this bag, moreso after I added a waistbelt Received this bag as a gift. Beautiful construction lots of lovely features. Unfortunately, there is no waist belt for when you convert it into a backpack. Given the size of the bag I reasoned that using it with all the weight on your shoulders may get heavy and painful. Considered exchanging for Tortuga Outbreaker. However, I was able to use a combination of clips and straps to fix a hip /waist belt to the daisy chain. Not perfectly supportive, but helps distribute the weight of the bag off of the shoulders. Leaving this review so that others can find this solution as well. Otherwise lovely, would absolutely reccomend

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice, Capable but not ideal for carryon I bought this bag in September. Since then I took it to Australia, NZ, Spain, Switzerland and Turkey. So I had a chance to try it. I think it's a little bit larger than I prefer, which can be an advantage for some people, but not the case for me. So you know why, I'm older and a female so at this point in my life things get heavy quickly. You can put a lot in the bag and the compartments are generous. The backpack feature is essential and helpful. The material is great and sheds water easily. It has multiple pockets to stash things. It fits well in overhead compartments and if it's not overloaded and you have short legs you can place it under the seat in front of you even in economy! What I didn't like is that there are no zippered pockets in the area where you put your pens, portable chargers, glasses etc. Plus the one pocket where you would stash your glasses does not accommodate a normal size glasses case. The interior orange color makes it easy to see your things.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All around duffle/gear/office bag With so many ways to carry and so many compartments, this bag is by far has the most utility. Padded backside comparment can cold my 15” MBP, 12” ipad pro and cables. The only thing that would make this pack better is to have internal compression straps inside the main compartment and external compresion straps to make it less of a footprint if under utilizing space.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect bag!! I bought this bag right before I went on a snowboarding trip to Vail. I initially had a larger suitcase packed for the trip but once this bag arrived and I was handling it I decided to try to see how much I could fit into it. Between this bag and my snowboard bag I everything I needed and more for the 5 day trip. The backpack straps made it super easy getting through the airport without fumbling around with the extra bags. The bag is lightweight and the different compartments made it easy to separate gear. The suitcase style opening makes it extremely easy to get to your stuff without digging around or unpacking. The size is also perfect for a carry on to go in the overhead compartment. It is probably a big too big to fit under the seat in front of your feet. Now, on a daily basis I use this back for workout and shower gear. It makes life too easy! I would recommend this bag to anyone looking for a daily or short trip tote.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bag ever!! This is the most well-designed, easy to carry piece of luggage I have ever owned. I could pack for a month in it, laptop and all, and yet it's extremely compact and durable. I wish Patagonia would make a smaller size for overnights or weekends. 30L perhaps? I would buy one for all of my relatives and friends. It makes me so happy to travel in this it's beautiful!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great bag Just got this bag within the past month and has provided a great travel solution where you need some better organization than in your standard duffle. I particularly like the section for your laptop and other electronic/business items that keeps it separate from your clothes. If the shoulder strap had a little more extension to its length that would be great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable, Refined, Rugged. The Perfect Travel Bag I've owned about 4 different versions of this bag over the last 15-20 years, and they just keep getting better. The interior contrasting color is a fun and functional improvement. The interior zipper compartment is far superior to the older, floating, zipper panel, and the water resistant Black Hole version (vs. the regular nylon) has stood up to some pretty severe snowstorms in the bed of the truck. I don't use the padded laptop compartment every time, but the times I've used it I find it adequate and appreciated. Again, a great refinement or improvement over the older versions. I think one feature that gets overlooked is the lay-flat nature of this bag. I can flop it all the way open and access every corner without rooting around and under hidden corners. I travel with this bag a few times a month and it's about as close to perfect as you can get.
