The quintessential favorite for early-season routes in the Cascades, Tetons and Winds. A heavyweight of versatility, our Merino Midweight is a wonderfully soft jersey knit suited to a wide variety of activities across a wide range of conditions. Merino wool is naturally breathable, regulates body temperature and stretches. It's also wonderfully soft and naturally resists odor. Ours is sourced from the grasslands of Patagonia. We slow-wash it for softness and shrink resistance, without the use of chlorine, then blend it with 18% Capilene® recycled polyester for durability and for dry times and moisture transfer superior to that of 100% merino. Features include a brushed elastic waistband for next-to-skin softness, a gusseted crotch for mobility, a functional fly, and low-bulk merrow seams and offset inseams minimize chafing. Machine wash cold; machine dry at low temperatures.

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from my second set of these Finally wore out my old pair of merino wool bottoms, these have been super comfy, handle smells better then capilene and lasted for a number of years of hard wear. Thanks for making such good gear patagonia.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ripped the second time Bought these for my husband who just lives in his Merino baselayer all winter. The second time he wore these they ripped. Not sure if I can send them back or not, but I would be careful with these when putting them on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I wear Patagonia all the time I'm outdoors. I enjoy my Mammoth Lake trip so much because of my Patagonia keeping me warm. I honestly had the best clothes for every activity I did.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor durability These felt and performed pretty well while they lasted. I felt they were a little over-sized. Unfortunately, they quickly developed multiple tears, pilling in the crotch, and just generally broke down. I stitched them up a few times, but finally gave up. I had hoped that they polyester combination would give them better results. I used they 2x / week on 1-2 hour outings and hand washed them only. They are far too delicate in my estimation as they didn't even last a season of moderate usage.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Mom Baselayers Dig the Pearson Stripe Green color ! They're well made, great fabric, but it's unnecessarily stretchy, more so than any other Patagonia baselayers I've owned. I'm a big guy - 6'2, 230, been wearing Patagonia baselayers a long time. There's way too much extra material here, the rise is way too high. I have to fold the waistband over to get them feeling right. Plus, the way they're gusseted keeps me from being able to find a comfortable way to arrange my naughty bits. Hugely annoying and disappointing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Balance of loose and under layer I really like that I have longjohns that are not compression pants they keep me warm but they don't crimp my leg hairs all day.
