When your daily ritual revolves around getting outside and covering ground, our time-honored Nine Trails Shorts won’t let you down. These versatile, fully featured, tough yet breathable running shorts are made from a lightweight blend of 75-denier 91% recycled polyester/9% spandex fabric with 4-way stretch and a DWR (durable water repellent) finish. To help vent excess heat and eliminate chafing, the crotch gusset and side panels use quick-drying, recycled polyester Air Flow mesh fabric. The built-in liner is soft, breathable and moisture-wicking, thanks to a microdenier polyester crepe with Polygiene® permanent odor control. All three pockets (two front, one back right-side) close with zippers, and a flat-knit drawcord at the waist fine-tunes the fit. Inseam is 8". With reflective heat-transfer logo on front and back.

Water Resistant

(durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Men's Nine Trails Shorts - 8 In. is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Old Style Was Better I have a pair of old style 9Trails Shorts. They are my go-to running shorts. Big pockets with zips, not tight and an airy liner. The new style just does not cut it. The pockets are too small, the drawstring is too short and the bicycle style liner is too hot. Plus, it makes the shorts cling to my legs. Lately Patagonia has been doing a lot of fiddling with tried and true designs, and as a result, has made the product worse, not better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from not just for running i love these shorts. they're cool, ventilated, wicking, and comfortable. the zippered pockets are great, and perfectly placed. i bought these for trail running, but found myself using them for hiking and traveling as well. in a pinch, they'll work as swim trunks, too. the polygiene odor control may help a bit, but it isn't magic. i rinse and wring these out after every wear, and they go in the wash pretty frequently.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Work great in Africa I'm an active duty Marine infantrymen and daily exercise is a must for me. I enjoy trail running, specifically in Southern California where I live. Earlier this year, my favorite pair of running shorts finally quit on me after almost a 10 year stint. I loved these because they were light, had the extra pocket (which had a zipper; runners you know how important a zipper pocket is), and the mesh liner that helped prevent the chafing. Since then, I went through two pair of shorts and both of these did not meet any of my expectations. So before I bought the Patagonia shorts, I did a little research to ensure I was going to buy a pair of shorts that were going to last me a long time. I'm glad I did because these shorts have met every expectation. I love these shorts! The pockets with the zippers, the mesh liner, the breathable liner between the legs, I mean, they're a runners dream come true. The only suggestion I would make to a potential buyer is regarding the size. Depending on the design of shorts or pants I buy, I'm either a 32 or 34. So I went conservative and purchased the size L. I sure do plan on purchasing another pair and this time I will go with a size M. Other than that, I give them 5-stars!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple and effective As an outdoor professional and long time trail runner I am always searching for simple functional clothing that will take a beating--Just got back from working a trip in Southern Utah that included canyoneering, rock climbing, running and mountain biking--being a minimalist I went with just the trail 9 shorts in my quiver--They worked well in all areas-great shorts, comfortable, effective with no chaffing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Three excellent designed zippered pockets I bought three of this shorts in three different colors. These shorts feel and fit snugly to the body. The pockets are excellent that can store a 4.7-inch display smartphone, a pair of glasses, several keys, dietary supplements, sunscreen, etc. They are excellent for long trips requiring a confortable running without leaving at home your travel essentials.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice job! I've bought a pair of these for years and this year's design is the best so far. Nice finish and detail. The pockets are more usable than ever while not being too bulky. The fit is better too. Earlier versions flared out a bit at the hem. This is a cleaner, straighter fit. I use mine for running, yoga, and working out. I'm 180 lbs, 6'0 w/ 32 " waist and the medium is a good fit. Please continue with this design. Nice job, patagonia! Now please find someone to make your awesome shoes again! Thanks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for distance running Just bought the first shorts from Patagonia for running. This one has everything I was looking for in my distance training running. One side pocket is just right for iPhone which I often carry. The front pockets are good for key (single key, not a bunch) and some jell I need for a run more than an hour. Even with all these the pants provide surprisingly good and snug fit with just right amount of weight itself. I don't feel any dangling or pants drop during run. Unlike my the other shorts this one feels good quality for long run with enough essentials. Thinking of getting another pair for rotation.
