The days are still warm, but October mornings in the Cascades mean waking up with crystals of frost speckling the tent. Offering versatile midweight warmth, the Shelled Synchilla® Snap-T® Hoody pairs our plush 100% polyester fleece (solids, 85% recycled; heathers, 80% recycled; both bluesign® approved) with a nylon shell over the shoulders, upper torso, hood and arms for additional weather protection. The anatomic, 3-panel hood covers your noggin on cold mornings and stays put on the trail. The full-length zipper has a wind flap, and spandex binding at the cuffs, hem and hood opening seals out the drafts. Two vertical handwarmer pockets have snap closures; for life’s smaller details, the left chest pocket has a snap closure and nylon flap. Hip length.

bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Super cozy, nylon outer makes arms a bit too tight Bought this on sale. Looks good, is really warm. Arms are pretty tight. Totally fine, but pinch in the elbows if I bend my arms more than 90deg.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Hoodie I've Ever Owned I can imagine this being the last hoodie I'll ever own. Its construction and quality are impressive, and it is unbelievably warm. The nylon shell adds a great wind/water resistance.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from needs improvement Great idea for a shelled fleece jacket, but the shell needs improvement. Fit is great, Large for 6'2" 170 lbs. sleeves almost long enough and not too much room in body. I would love to see three more inches in the sleeves with thumb holes. The problem is that when you move, reach, stretch or bend, the nylon shell restricts your movement. Maybe less than full sleeve coverage or add something to allow the nylon to stretch with you and the fleece. I can imagine the wind resistance is good as is but I never even tried it outside. I would also like to see less vibrant color for the trim and pocket mesh.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, multi-use jacket This could be great for anything. I will mostly just be wearing it around the farm and general PNW 3 season activities. When it's really cold it would need more layering. Fit is great. Not too baggy, not too tight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A step above a regular fleece I was looking to get a new fleece jacket to replace the Synchilla pullover I had years ago that ended up being too big for me overall. The Synchilla pullover was nice, but less useful to me. It was too tough to pull on and off and it was too cold in the wind. This ended up being a better choice. I like full-zip jackets, I like having a hood, and the light weight nylon shell gives it a whole lot more wind resistance. It still has the snap pocket for the retro touch. I really don't see the issues that others have with the lack of stretch in the shelled portion. The jacket still moves with me plenty well enough. If you are planning on using this for climbing (where you need the extra arm stretch to reach well above you), then I would recommend going with something else. For hiking, travel, and even a bit of cycling this is fitting the bill.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well for brisk changing mountain weather When the hail and corn snow decides to drop from the sky at a moments notice the Shelled Synchilla Snap-T Hoody is a perfect garment to take away the chill and repel the ever changing crystalized moisture!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not quite what I was hoping This is a mostly great piece. The shell panels add a lot of abrasion and wind resistance. The fleece is typical Patagonia quality, warmth, and comfort. The downsides are lack of stretch and no additional room to layer beneath. Works fine with a t-shirt or capilene base layer. I use it on breaks at work to get outside on chilly, breezy days and knocking around the house on weekends. It doesn't have enough stretch to bring along on fly fishing trips or other active pursuits - binds up at the arm holes and across the back.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I Really Wanted To Love It!! I had been eyeing this piece for awhile, and finally saw it at an outlet sale. I was extremely excited about it: the colors are great, the feel is amazing, especially the hood was very comfortable. The only issue is that the shell material has no stretch whatsoever. This might be fine for someone with short arms but for me it means that any time my arms are in front of my body, I can feel the shell fabric pulling against my back and restricting my movement. Driving in this became slightly uncomfortable. Reaching for things at camp was frustrating. Worst of all was that I really truly wanted this to be my favorite, go-to piece, but the design flaw would surface every time I put it on and I simply could not convince myself that it was worth keeping. So sad to return this. Dear Patagonia, if you add some stretch to the shell fabric I will absolutely buy this again and it will become my instant favorite. And while the Snap-T button closures on the handwarmer pockets are cool, they made my feel like my valuables weren't secure so let's add some zippers while we're at it! I'm looking forward to the improved version this fall. Let me know if you'd like me to test it for you! :) Cheers
