The alpine bouldering of the Rocky Mountains means long approaches, gnarled rock, fickle weather conditions and the occasional leap of faith on the downclimb. Through all of that, our multifaceted Sidesend Pants remain unfazed. Their 4-way stretch provides exceptional mobility and comfort when you’re bouldering, backpacking or traveling in dynamic terrain. Sidesends feature a stretch-woven fabric blend of 91% recycled polyester/9% spandex that’s treated with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish to shed moisture. Lightweight, breathable, wind- and abrasion-resistant, they feature articulated knees and a gusseted crotch that allow the full range of mobility. A curved waistband provides a contoured fit and reduces any downward migration. Four pockets keep you organized, and a slightly slimmed-down, tapered silhouette ensures your feet stay clear of excess fabric. Inseam is 34".

  • Slim fit: cut to sit on the waist with a regular rise. Slim through the leg, close at the thigh and slim to the ankle. bluesign® Approved Fabric

Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for the end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

Recycled Polyester

In 1993, we adopted fleece into our product line made from post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles. We were the first outdoor clothing manufacturer to do so. PCR® clothing was a positive step towards a more sustainable system – one that uses fewer resources, discards less and better protects people’s health.

Today, we’re able to utilize more sources for recycled polyester and offer it on more garments such as Capilene® baselayers, shell jackets, board shorts, and fleece. We now recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste, and worn out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce many of our clothes.

Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source, curbs discards and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.

Men's Sidesend Pants - Long is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice but with some issues. Measurements: I’m 6’2” approximately 195 lbs. 95% of the pants I own are 34x34 to include brands from Mountain Hardwear, Prana, Levis, and of course Patagonia. I purchased these in size 34” in long. Fit: The fit is slim as advertised but not too slim where it's skintight. I think this is a perfect marriage of style and function. The pants stretch so when you sit or squat, they don't ride-up like cotton or polyester pants. Issue: The length is a little off-putting. I have attached photos to illustrate how long these pants are. The left side (my left) is cuffed approximately 3-4”. The right side I've left uncuffed for reference. Perhaps because these pants are slim fit, they give the illusion that they are incredibly long in length (note where the pants break). Comfort: Although comfortable, they are not as comfortable as other brands I own. Issue: They do have a very very slight scratch as you move around. In comparison to other brands (including Patagonia) I don't have this issue. It isn't unbearable, but it is noticeable. Would I purchase again…absolutely, I just did but in regular. I’m a slave to fashion. Caveat: I've been wearing these during the winter, the air a bit dryer and therefore affects the skin differently than humid climates. May not be a concern in the tropics. Style: As previously mentioned, the style is excellent. I would have no issues wearing these out to a five star restaurant, breaking it down on the dance floor, and then running several miles. In other words, if I were to choose one pair of travel pants, that you could get away with this sort of frivolity, I would choose these in black.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just what I was looking for... First, I totally agree with Levi. These need a bit of elastic in the back waist band. They don't stay in place. And these pants are for being active, not just laying around. But, with activity comes droop. Actually, I'm going to have some elastic placed by a local seamstress. That's how much I think these pants would be enhanced. In most every other way, however, they are just what I personally wanted. Synthetic fabric to dry quick and block the wind a bit. A little stretch and articulated knee to obviate binding. Zippered, secure pockets to keep stuff in place with activity. With these on, I don't think twice about a quick ride to the store or the brewery for a burger. Man, I wish they just stayed up better... Also, I'm thin so I like the slim (skinny) dimension. Just know that, like Levi says, they don't necessarily fit over boot tops. They do work well with my running shoes, however. Actually, if I didn't have to pull them up, I'd say they could easily accommodate a cool weather run... ALMOST perfect for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Preformer I bought the Sidesend a couple weeks ago to replace a pair of Simple Guide Pants. Though they arent even in the same ballpark as the simple guide, they are pretty good. Similar layout in pockets but a skinny leg, and no elastic in the waist band. They will not fit easily over the top of a high top keen boot. the simple guide were a 5 star, these are a solid 4. a little roomier in the ankle and a partially elastic waist band, and theyd get a 5!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Job! Purchased these pants for an extended trip into Paraguay and Argentina. Excellent fit, perfect travel pant. Great for long long plane rides and get in the remote regions of Paraguay while working. Going to purchase another pair. Hey, need some more color options for the "long" length.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My fave hikers -- and office pants too! I got these on a recommendation from a friend who uses them while climbing. I needed a hardcore pair of pants that I could ride with in light rain and still look good in the office. The first ride was a bit wet and muddy, but when I got to the office a simple shake was all it took to rid the legs of the mud and water. Now, after at least 5 weekend hiking trips to the White Mountains they are my favorite hikers too. It seems that nothing sticks to these pants. They still live up to their original function -- the stretch fabric is super comfortable to ride my bike with, hike and scramble on the trail, and sit cross-legged in the office. What more could I ask for?
