Organic Cotton

In 1996, with an increased awareness of the dangers of pesticide use and synthetic fertilizers in growing conventional cotton, we began the exclusive use of organically grown cotton in all of our cotton products.

The quality of organic cotton is equal to or better than conventionally grown cotton, yet organically grown methods support biodiversity and healthy ecosystems, improve the quality of soil and often use less water. Growing organically takes more time, requires more knowledge and skill, and, for now, costs more. But it’s worth it.

To ensure we are buying cotton that is organic as defined by the USDA’s National Organic Program, we require numerous certificates issued by an accredited third-party certification body for every step of the supply chain, from farm to factories.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old faithful No change over the last 20 years: plenty of belt loops; great fabric; double seat, etc. I live in fear you'll "modernize" them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The only short to wear And wear it does! I still have several pair over 20 years old and being replaced only on the wise advise of my spouse who claims thread bare, stained and discolored is not a good look for a 70 year old. Still love them, put in a safe hiding place.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unique Design, Perfect for Climbing I bought a pair of these several months ago, and now own three in different colors. The unique part of these shorts, and why I bother writing a review, is the rear-pocket layout. It is cut so that you can still easily access the pockets while wearing a climbing-harness. This comes in handy because I frequently want to climb with tape, or a phone for pictures, that I'd like to access while climbing but won't fit in my chalk bag or on harness soft points. These are now my favorite shorts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from How Many Years? Yes, like many others I've been wearing Stand Up Shorts for a long, long time. The construction is precise, the fabric is rugged, but softens nicely once broken in. The style has remained mostly unchanged over the years, it's a Patagonia classic. As others have said I wish a longer version was available again. The 7 inch version is great for hiking, sailing, and casual activity outdoors, but not very versatile for around town. My last few pair of 9 inch Stand Ups have finally literally been worn to shreds, so I'm reduced to trolling Ebay like other Patagonia customers. Here's another vote to bring back a longer 8-9" version again! I found the waist sizing to be perfect, and consistent with other Stand Ups I own. I wear a 32.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Same Great Short Glad to see a new bright color this year. Usual quality of the construction. The only small issue is that depending on what color/year you buy your shorts, the same size will fit differently. I have five pair of these shorts and they are all the same size, but they all fit differently, from almost too tight to almost too loose. Definitely want to try on before you buy or order a size run to try before returning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best shorts out there I have managed to kill one pair of these. Many summers in the water, the front rivet rusted through. I have 2 pair purchased early 90s that are starting to fray at the hems and one from a few years ago. Comfortable, good looking, functional with all the pockets, and super durable. The cotton on the newer ones isn't quite as hard/stiff at first; the older ones took several washings to soften up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these things. Been wearing these about 2 months or so. They start out very rough and canvas-y, but quickly soften with wearing and washing, and feel just great. I'm normally a 33 or 34 waist, but needed the 35 in the stand ups to get the proper room elsewhere. For the summer, there's a ton of space in the legs for airflow (I'm in Houston), and they're significantly cooler and less restrictive than my other shorts. I wear them almost daily, and bought 2 more pair besides. Oh, and lots and lots of cargo space if you need it with the super deep pockets, but they're not baggy and bothersome. Love 'em.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Only my third pair since 1996 Got these to replace a pair I bought 1n 1996 and 2003. The material it is much thinner than I remember. I tried to compare them to my old ones but they have been washed so many time they have lost the stiffness. Maybe it's just me. They also seem to be snugger than I remember. I know I have put on weight in the years but these are at least one size smaller than my originals. I'm a 37. 38 were snug and I prefer them to be looser. Went with a 40 which is still not as loose as you would think. Lastly, what's the deal with the pocket inside the back pocket? That's new.
